Girls Cars 22 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I need a car for uni and was wondering what to buy. Don't have much money to spend, so it's got to be cheap to buy and run. I was thinking about a Metro or one of those Kias perhaps. They seem to be cheap n cheerful. Bit worried about driving too. How do you cope with all the aggression out there? Looking forward to the freedom a car will give me though... -
Castrol 1 Bike Oil 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Uncle Rupert's Star Sports Channel got it all wrong for the Philippines. They're running a Castrol commercial which is ludicrously based on a soccer theme (for a country whose favorite national sport by far is cock-fighting, followed by basket-ball and then pool) and ends with the exhortation "Make your bike go like Beckham!" -
legacy engine mystery 5 Oct 2003 (Forum)
It simply dies at any revs, any temperature, any time. The \'check engine light comes on, the engine stops. It will restart after several attempts, run for 1 mile or 50, and stop again. We\'ve checked for spark, fuel and replaced the \'top dead centre pickup\' (whatever that is!) cleaned everything with no success. It was suggested I check the fuel pump relay, but where is it? -

Supermarket car parks ?? 26 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Some considerable time ago, a thread was running about the legal situation when driving in a Supermarket car park, as to the question of if the rules of the road apply. Though there was considerable response to the posting, the question was not resolved. -
Woo hoo!! New baby in the family! 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Anyway, fantastic car, lovely sounding V6 engine, loads of toys, and we love it to bits. Even has James Bond style run flat tyres, even a stinger can't stop us now! :-) Shame that it was raining though. :-( In case anyone is wondering how we avoided the year long waiting list for the car... we got a cancelled order from the dealers! -
Disposable Cars? 30 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The list goes on. Conspiracy to make us all buy new cars? Apologies for anyone who isn't interested in running old cars. -
Which convertible? 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
My partners wants a convertible that is fairly new (2/3 years), and not too expensive to insure and run. It must have space for two toddlers. She has £11K to spend. She is very keen on 206cc which I don't think has enough space - but she sits fairly close to the wheel so thinks the two bucket seats in the back will be OK for the short journeys she does. -
Oil Consumption, new C3 16v HDi 17 May 2003 (Forum)
It has been driven snail-like as I want to build up the rpm slowly, I beleive this used to be called 'running-in'! Our Picasso HDi diesel, by contrast has not used a drop in 8,000 miles. Naturally I'm concerned that there may be a problem with the C3. Can anyone allay/promote my anxiety? regards, Alf -
diesel fuel pump 14 May 2003 (Forum)
Following erratic, jerky running of my Mitsubishi Carisma Turbo-diesel (1999, 74k miles)the main dealer says the diesel pump needs replacing because one of the internal sensors is faulty and they can only replace the whole pump (sensors being unavailable to them)has quoted an astonishing, jaw-dropping £900+ to supply & fit (the pump alone is £600). -
Audi A3 Rear washer feed 7 May 2003 (Forum)
I have removed the interior rear cover to the tailgate and all seems OK. Does anyone know where the tube runs and where this connection may be? I didn't get a positive response when I asked the garage to tell me where it was routed and where the connection(s) are. -
Ford Mondeo TDCi 130 2 May 2003 (Forum)
I went straight to a local dealer (mine is a company car so not bought locally) who said the fuel pump was showing signs of wear, the car is 2 days old!. It has run ok since that though. Thanks Richard -
low coolant temperature 25 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have never had a car before that did not show the temperature as at the middle or upper reaches of the temperature gauge once warmed up. Now this may be a faulty gauge, or it may be that my car runs cool. If it is the latter, is it anything to worry about? -
Renault first fill oil 21 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The dealer says it\'ll be elf full synthetic 5W40 but a mechanic who works there thinks more likely 10W40 semi-synthetic for running in. The handbook suggests that the first fill oil should be left in for 18000 miles! I intend to go to the dealer after 9000 miles for an oil and filter change. Does anybody have a definitive answer as to the type and grade of the first fill oil ? -
Mondeo v Passat v Vectra 12 Apr 2003 (Forum)
(but she'll be 'discussing' this in an attempt to change things) Assuming the Mazda remains out of reach what are the opinions/experiences you have of these cars. Also as a pointer the Vectra is currently running a poor 3rd on account that's it's sooooo hideously ugly (her opinion and one that I agree with!) -
Towing with new Mondeo 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
HJ mentioned some time back that early LX models had front seat problems - not kind to the coccyx, and plastic pins sticking through the seat padding. Any advice on what registrations/ production runs to avoid here? Thanks - GrahamM -
steering ball joints on 98 Merc E300TD 27 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I have just had an MoT at 47k miles and have been cautioned that there is excess play in the front wheels which though not yet an MoT failure will require the lower ball joints to be replaced within 5k miles. I have never had this before in any previous (cheaper) vehicle despite running to much higher mileages. Does anyone know if this represents an expected failure due to wear and tear or is there a quality issue here? What sort of bill should I anticipate? -
Mercedes E280 96P 19 Jan 2003 (Forum)
After carrying out a 95K service (last august) the engine seemed to be 'missing' Franchised dealer carried out some repairs Foc but would only say that they replaced a top end of a tappit. They have just returned it and on trying to run the revs up a bit it starts banging and belching smoke at 400rpm. Mr Merc says that it cant be reved whilst stationary as the management system cuts out as it dousn't sense any speed. As you can tell I am not mech. minded, so are they telling me porkies? -
Peugeot 306 wiring fault, wire BB2 19 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1996 306 D turbo and am having problems with the heater blower and heated rear window not working. There is a wire labled BB2 which runs from the positive control unit next to the battery to the ignition switch. When I measure the voltage at the ignition switch end (Before it actually goes htrough the ignition switch) it is low, indicating a break in the wire somewhere. -
renault laguna rear windscreen 15 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I've got a renault laguna 2.0 rt on a 95 plate, The problem i have is with the heated rear windscreen. when i turn the demister on nothing happens. I've put a circuit tester on the heater and theres 12.3 volts running through it so theres plenty of power there. There isn't a drop in power when i turn it on either. this seems to be a common problem as a few friends and family memvers who own lagunas also seem to have the same problem. short of replacing the windscreen any ideas ?
