  • tyre speed ratings 11 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I feel sure that this topic must have been covered at some earlier point, but,if tyres with a speed rating different to that specified in the cars handbook are fitted, what would be the outcome if that car was involved in an accident? This is just a hypothetical question following a general chat with a mate - honest!
  • Mini one 1.4 auto - Engine oil 26 Mar 2013 (Forum)
My Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTi auto ( also 2007 reg - 34000 miles on the clock) has not required an oil top up since its last oil service (about 6000 miles ago). My Astra covers about 500 miles every month around town with a motorway run every couple of weeks. It has a full service history. I know nothing about how cars work (and have very little interest in finding out!!!).
  • Car for SWMBO 10 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Wife is learning to drive and needs to practise but finds my car Rover 416 a bit hard to drive, so was thinking of buying a car that she could practise in and drive when test is passed. Budget is £600 to £800 and at the most the car will be covering 8,000 miles a year, looking for something Vauxhall Corsa or Astra size and low insurance groups Any suggestions please
  • Peugeot 208 - £2K courtesy car bill after uninsured accident 16 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hi I know this has been covered here to some extent already but bear with me! My Brother in Law was hit by an uninsured driver who was also at fault (in addition to not having insurance!) and his car was written off. My B in L wasn't aware of the well-known credit hire courtesy car 'scam'  that claims management companies operate and signed the agreement.
  • Rover Warranty 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
The RAC have offered MG-Rover owners their 5 star cover at heavily discounted rates (I'll find the details and post later). With the tens of thousands of cars on the road, I think there is a lot of scaremongering over parts.
  • Car bike carrier 6 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Took the plunge bought a rear mounted 3 bike cycle rack. Don’t want to scratch the car! However with all 3 bikes loaded the lights and partially covered. Read some things about a board with number plate and brake/indicator lights? How the hell do you go about getting a connection from the car to that?
  • SEAT Arona - New Engine fitted - No Warranty 1 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Should the engine need replacing again then this warranty will cover only £1000.  SEAT said a the repair would be around £14000. I am not happy that SEAT do not cover a brand new engine they have fitted.  Surely the new engine must have some kind of cover if it developed a fault.
  • VW Fox 2009 - How do I jump start this car battery? (VW Fox 09) 23 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Hi all, My VW Fox has drained its battery and I'm stumped as to how to jump-start it. I've taken off the battery cover - pictured in https://i.imgur.com/BybCGa8.jpg - but there's still no way to get the positive dragon clip onto the positive terminal that I can see. There's no way to attach it from the top and the gap between the cover and the battery is also too small to insert it from behind.
  • VW Golf MK6 - VW Golf MK6 clutch problems 19 Feb 2012 (Forum)
This should not happen on a car of this age that is well looked after. The VW dealer are currently saying that they don't think it is covered under warranty. I am due to pick it up tomorrow but I don't want to pay for something that should not have happened.
  • Rover Streetwise diesel - Warranty failure 29 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I purchased a Rover Streetwise diesel from -a car dealer- for £3100 without warranty, other than an agreed 3 months on mechanicals, which I believe to be the statutory minimum. I also took out a third party warranty with snip. On 16/12/09, the car would not accelerate and had to be taken to the local Rover service agent, who performed diagnostics.
  • Short Journeys 9 May 2001 (Forum)
The warranty they are offering me now is Red Zebra which I think they issue with their used cars. It will cost £358 for 12 months and will include breakdown cover. Do you think it is worth it? Jason
  • Courtesy Cars 30 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Out of interest, when and who would you expect to recieve a courtesy car from? Main dealers or independants during servicing, accident damage repairs or mechanical break downs? I ponder this because our VW dealer is not keen on offering a courtesy car even though the car has mechanical problems covered by warranty.
  • Ford Mondeo 2ltr tdci, 2012 - timing belt change 21 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend when to change the timing belt on my car. It has covered 90K with full dealer service history.

  • Fuel Tank Inserts 11 Jun 2006 (Forum)
is there a recognised convention concerning the colour of inserts for fuel tanks on modern cars? I know this sounds naive but......and I should be grateful for an answer quoting any legislation etc. that may cover this please. Thanks Don

  • any car - soundproofing 16 May 2015 (Forum)
Some modern cars have little if any soundproofing under the thin plastic trim, or under the very thin boot coverings. Road noise can be awful in some and thats without the cars in question being fitted with elastic band tyres.
  • Hyundai I40 - Re : Insurance claims 7 Aug 2012 (Forum)
The other driver has admitted liability and his insurance company have contacted me confirming this and offering to handle my case directly without getting my insurance company involved. The damage appears to be cosmetic only involving the replacement of the main bumper, bumper cover mouling and tailgate cover moulding. Unfortunately their nominated repair company are not "Hyundai approved" and as a result the delear I bought the car from says using them may put my warrranty at risk [the main reason why I bought the car].
  • 206 hdi oil leak 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi Essentially I'm trying to establish whether Peugeot will do anything for a car that has just gone out of warranty. My girlfriend's sister has a 206 hdi which now has 37,000 miles, apparently her father topped up the oil adding nearly a litre in June (she didn't notice the oil level monitor until it started to flash) when the car went for its 36,000 mile sevice the (local vat registered) mechanic reported an oil leak coming from the back of the engine possibly from below the rocker cover (the entire engine is soaked) and had advised her to go back to peugeot as the car was just out of warranty (may 06) this was a few weeks ago.
