• Ford Fiesta - Fiesta tdci fuel leak 3 Aug 2016 (Forum)
  Hi, Last couple of days I've been smelling diesel through the fans when stationary and low speed. I had the injector seals replaced last year there doesn't seem to be as much fuel this time. The leak seems to be coming from the small fuel pipe into the top of the inject, the one with the little metal clip on.

  He thinks it could be taking in air from the top of the tank when the diesel level gets low. Borrowed a manual for a petrol version to see how to get the sender unit assembly out, and on the petrol tank, the assembly contains the fuel pump. The same plastic housing is in the diesel version, but we are just curious what is inside this as it doesn't contain a pump.

  In the market for a diesel 4*4 5 or 6/7 seater with half decent fuel economy. Max spend approx 5K hopefully less. Wife loves the Discovery, horror build quality and rust puts me off. But can see the attraction otherwise. The 300TDI would be the one for us, but most examples high miles and corrosion everywhere.

  My 1.5D saxo has diesel leaking out of the side of the fuel filter housing.It looks like some sort of plug on the rear nearest the bulkhead.It leaks as soon as the filter is primed.Anyone know what this plug is for and how do you get the filter housing/thermostat housing off?

  I have had 1.9tdi diesel from new, just filled the tank with disel which "leaked" over the garage forecourt. This problem only occurs when the tank is filled up and not when it is partially filled. I have had the seal on the fuel pump replaced but it hasn't resolved the problem.

  Fuel cost graph on tonights channel 4 news showed a price of $1.75 a gallon on the day before the huricane had now risen to oapprox $2.50, still cheap by UK standards. Bought diesel today at 97.9p/litre, i reckon within 2 weeks it'll be over £1.00 which is an incredulous amount when not more than 6 months ago it was around 81p

  So I thought I would mix in some cheap 20w 50 engine oil in with my diesel fuel at a ratio of about 100:1 as diesel is already a reasonable lubricant. The oil will just burn in the same way as the diesel once it has done its lubrication work having passed through the low pressure pump, high pressure pump & then the injectors.

  Had this problem a while. So far have changed all pipework in engine bay, leak off pipes, priming bulb and O rings on fuel filter housing. Even so, after about 4-5 hours standing it needs to be primed before it will start. When priming I can hear the fuel filter housing refilling with diesel. Can anyone give me any pointers on this one?
