Skoda Felicia 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Am I right that this is basically VW engineering? I am interested in a good solid reliable workhorse that won't cost too much to keep running. I am not concerned about what it's like to drive (unless it's really horrid) Yes or no? Please advise. -
Double Car tax brainstorm 6 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I went out today and got a new tax disc for the car, backdated to the start of December. The time came to put it into the car and I realised my current tax runs out at the end of December, not November. So my car is now double taxed for a month. I know it's only £15, but I give Gordon enough as it is. Is there a way to get this back? V PS. Assume that I already know what an idiot I am for doing this in the first place. -
Bless this nations motorway network... 25 Nov 2005 (Forum)
for enabling me to travel from Blackburn, Lancashire to High Wycombe in 3hrs yesterday afternoon, spend a couple of hours seeing my cousin in hospital there, then 3hrs to get back. No drama, no worries or fuss. Straight clean run both ways and came back just after 10pm pretty relaxed. The time taken for the journey was exactly what the AA traffic route planner had said. Thank you to all concerned! Stu PS. Of course, I would not have attempted this on a Friday -

1995 Corsa 1.2 hesitation 31 Oct 2005 (Forum)
The problem appears to go away once the engine is warm and doesn't recur if the engine is switched off, left to rest for a short period (say an hour or two) and then restarted. Any suggestions on what may be the cause? Car runs fine apart from this - just appears to "bog down" as if suffering from fuel starvation. Thanks, Alex -
Moving adverts on HJ site 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have no problem with the small ones on the left, but I had to resize the window to remove it from my sight. Perhaps a guideline should be drawn up about the adverts that keep this site running. I personally feel this one has gone too far. -- Roger I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say. -
creaking ford focus 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
my 2002 focus 1.6 zetec has started making creaking noises, sounds like rear passenger side.it is most noticable going over speed humps.please tell me i only need something greasing, as two people have run into me over the last month and i,m skint.not in the ofending area i might add. p.s having driven two different hire cars over the last month a corsa and micra.it reminds you how brilliant the focus is to drive. -

M25 J4/M11/Stansted: Any roadworks? 18 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Haven't done this run for a while but will be doing so midweek, aiming to arrive at Stansted for an 09.00 weekday flight. Does anyone know of any current or forthcoming roadworks on the M25 or M11 which may affect my timing? -
Merc Build Date? 13 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My C Class was registered in March 2003 but a lot (is not all) the components have October 2001 stamped on them. My dealer informs me that MB will commission a parts run that may be used on cars over a number of years so the difference in dates is not unusual. Is this correct, or are they fibbing and, has my car been standing in a field hub deep in water for over a year? -
New car tax rules?? 8 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The way I understand it you have to renew your tax straight away, but you also need an MOT certificate to renew your car tax. I have both coming up soon and I don't want to be running around trying to get work for the MOT just because of this new law. Do they make exceptions or is it just a stupid rule?? -
Cat damage with leaded petrol 13 Aug 2005 (Forum)
At some point the active material in the cat is presumably neutralised or destroyed and it has to be replaced to meet the MoT test, but are there any side effects such as bad running or confusion for the ECU once the damage is done? Might it not also be cheaper if possible to remove the cat before travelling (replace it on return) or does that give the ECU brain damage? -
Peugeot 306 Problem2 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
When starting from cold, there is no smoke for the first minute or so, then suddenly clouds of the stuff (greyish) come out till it's heated up. Once its heated up, the smoke stops completely again and it runs well. My first thought was the glow plugs, so I've just finished replacing them (a real pain in the butt), and the problem is still there. Any suggestions anyone as to where to look next?? Thanks, Phil -
Finding a donor car for a kit-car build 8 Aug 2005 (Forum)
m trying to source a donor car for a kit-car build. More specifically a rover 214 or 216 (bubble shape), and I don?t necessarily need the car to run ? the parts I need don?t include the engine end gearbox. A CAT D car would be ideal. I?d be grateful for any suggestions how to source such car. Are there auction houses for write offs? Thanks in anticipation of your answers. -
Arachnids and Door Mirrors 6 Aug 2005 (Forum)
This topic seems to have disappeared into silly threads. It was quite an interesting topic whilst it was running. I have aquired another lodger in my driver's side mirror. I thought that it can't be coincidence, there must be an attraction. Hence I checked eight cars whilst I was doing my evening constitutional. -
Celica lambda sensor 31 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Would a faulty O2 sensor be enough to put all readings over the limit?.I have changed it and it seems to run smoother but I cant just keep taking it for a retest. First I would like to know that it has a fighting chance of passing. Regards Ken -
Cam belt Rover 214 18 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Mechanic tells me that he believes the cam belt is ok but it's up to me. I plan to keep the car for another year as I have had a lot of work done on it and it is running not too badly at the moment. What sort of age can it achieve? I've switched to using BP petrol which makes a great difference |Asda pertrol was awful! -
VAG PD diesel engine--injector cleaner 16 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am worried in case it damages anything as these engines are so specific with regard to oil grade due to the v high injection pressure. There is nothing wrong with the car just that with previous low tech diesels I have owned I have run a tankful of cleaner through every 10k miles or so. Cheers -
306 "STOP" light keeps flashing 12 Jun 2005 (Forum)
It sometimes stays on but I have checked everything I can think of but I can't get it to stop. It doesn't seem to have an effect on the car as it still runs fine. Could anyone please help me to find out what the problem might be???? Any help would be fantastic, Thanks -
The old Fiat Croma 29 May 2005 (Forum)
In his words, he is not even going to bother presenting it for the test because the engine is playing up. The bodywork is pretty good, the interior is not too hot, and the engine is not running right. He was going to scrap it, but before he does, is it likely to be of any value to owners of Lancia Themas or Alfa 164's for any shared bits? Or come to think, does the Croma itself have a following?
