Skoda Octavia Combi 1.6mpi auto - opinions... 8 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Anyone any views on this engine/gearbox combination? Also, does anyone have any actual fuel consumption figures for this type of car. Would 35/38mpg be realistic? - It will be mostly rural driving, with a smattering of urban and motorway driving. Many Thanks.. -
London cabbies - how much do they earn? 5 Nov 2011 (Forum)
It seemed even short journeys equated to £5 fares & I started to think what the net profit was likely to be in a year. I realise they have running costs (servicing, repairs, mot, licences, fuel, tax, insurance etc) but wondered what % overheads were as a % of total costs? Anyone have any idea of typical London cab earnings/outgoings? MM -
Petrol in France 31 Aug 2011 (Forum)
A hint; if you have a European mapped sat nav with you, get off the autoroute to refuel, and ask your satnav to find the nearest fuel station (My Garmin's really good at this) Best to leave autoroute at a town (when they become free) and sometimes you can see a Centre Commercial which usually has at least one big super/hyper market to head towards. -
Ford Focus Saloon 1.8 - Ford Focus 1.8 Speedo keeps stopping 24 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I bought the car 6 weeks ago and noticed this problem straight away, although it is irritating I live with it, last week the car did its usual thing of speedo, odometer and radio losing power and engine cutting out when slowing down, when the engine kicked back in, there was a loud rumbling noise coming from the engine and also fuel consumption has doubled, i'm getting around 100 miles for £30. Has anyone any ideas on this and could it be connected to the previous speedo problem?? -

Ford Mondeo - Which mondeo? 22 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Mondeo 1: 05 Plate 1.8 LX hatch 30k Miles £3,250 or 53 Plate 2.0TDCi Graphite hatch 92k Miles £2,500 (both FSH, 12 month RAC warranty) Am confused because the diesel one will have lower fuel consumption, is £750 cheaper, but is 2.5 years older and with 3x the mileage...... Any advice appreciated. -

Then this weekend it would'nt start at all. There is no smoke comming out the exhaust but there is fuel getting up past the the filter. To start with I thought is was heater plugs but because there is no smoke I now think its my pump but I thought there should be no real warning with it like being hard to start, I thought it should either go or not have u any advise for me. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.2 engine management light flashing 11 Mar 2011 (Forum)
hi i have a p reg corsa 1200cc engine that wont start. on turning the ignition on the engine management light starts to flash. the engine will turn over but not start. i have been told this is the imobalizer but there in no imobalizer on this, its pre imobalizer and there is no wiring for the sensor on the ignition. i can spray starter fluid in the carb and the engine will run momentarily so i no its not the ignition side of things. i have checked the fuel pump thats fine any ideas ? thanks alan -

Seat alhambra 1.9tdi, 2002, auto - rough running at lower speeds 8 Dec 2010 (Forum)
hi, I am experiencing very rough runs at lower speeds. Hesitates to accelerate / change gear . Consumes a lot more fuel than earlier. There is a terrible smell from the exhaust gases which is now very bad. At higher speeds say 50km/hr up and higher revs 2000+rpms up then the engines feels better. There are no fault indicators showing at all. -
1999 vectra vs 1996 BMW 318 17 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Would this be a good move the vectra has 105000 miles on it and the BMW has about 15000 more. I'm thinking the BMW would have better fuel economy as it is the same size engine but pulling a slightly smaller car. What would most people do on here as I value the opinion due to the advice I received in an earlier post stopped me buying a bad rover 45! -

Mondeo 2.0 GLX Auto - 4000 rev misfire 20 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Have changed all manner of common sense items as I have a donor vehicle, but all usual remedies fail. Fuel pressure, airmass meter, plugs, checked CAT, etc, etc, anyone have any similar experiences? The car is a mk2 auto, and when driving/running at anything less than 4k all is smooth and it's driving well, on increased acceleration over 4k, the engine simply pulses and this affects the auto box, changing it up and down. -

Peugeot 306 1.4 Meridian - Choke warning light? 23 Sep 2010 (Forum)
A few times over the last couple of days when the wife has been driving her car, the choke warning light has come on for a few seconds and then gone off again. The car has no choke as it's fuel injection! Does the choke warning light on the dash have some other function on an EFI engine as fitted to this specific car? The manual for the car has no information except to say 'only applicable to certain models'. -
w plate 1.25 fiesta - after like for like engine swop no cranking 5 Sep 2010 (Forum)
It appears that the start relay will not energise because the ecu wont put the earth onthe coil, slaving an earth on then cranks the engine but it does not start. I have not checked spark or fuel yet but im not too familiar with ecu is there a programing conn or chip that i have to transfer to the new engine or should it work as engine codes are the same . I have no problem with conventional fault finding its just the ecu and imobiliser functions im not sure about cheers. -
Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 97 2.0 flashing lights after heater diagnostic 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Now I am left with flashing lights and I dont know how to fix the heater problems that the diagnostic shows and I can't afford either. Can anyone tell me how can I stop these lights from flashing? The fuel gauge is not working on the dashboard since doing this test also. I don't know if its related to the test but it happened just after. Thanks, Nikki -

furniture removal (italy) 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
my swmbo has a problem, she wants to recover some furniture items from rome in italy a transit would fit the bill size wise... my idea is to go over on squeezy jet buy a cheap van in italy and drive back to blighty via the ferry in holland ( we plan to visit a reletive at uni in amsterdam) but she was saying that when you buy a vehicle in italy there is a tax on the change of owner ship.....the other idea is to hire a van here in the uk but i think it may be a bit expensive fuel wise doing the round trip....any help or ideas would be welcome , thanks zoo
