Fiesta immobiliser problem 14 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The trouble is I've just sold it and I've now discovered it's playing up a few days before the handover :-( The two-buttoned remote key stopped working first, and replacing the battery had no effect - do the remote and in-car remote receiver need to be synchronised again? Secondly, the alarm keeps going off after 30 seconds when locked (with the key, remote still doesn't work). -
Rover 414 wont start...Help please 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Went back to my car, went to start it.....Nothing!! I've not had any problems with the car since i've own it. Dont thinks its the battery. Thats newish, plus all lights (inside and out) still came on and never looked like draining. And we dont think its the starter motor. Anyone got any ideas please? Regards, Dave -
1995 FIAT Punto 1.7 diesel 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Am considering a) dropping engine at drivers side; b) removing steering pump completely (already have pipes off, radiator header tank off, air filter off, timing belt cover off); c) suicide or d) putting the thing back on and charging the battery up daily. Needless to say, it's the daughter's car not mine. -
Bump Starting an Automatic? 25 Feb 2005 (Forum)
SWMBO has had to call out the breakdown services today. She left her lights on in her Honda CRV and flattened the battery. Stupidly it does not have a lights on warning buzzer. She was parked on a hill and _could_ have bump started it - but she did not know how, as she has not had an auto before. It got me thinking. -
BMW E46 Boot Rattle 27 Jan 2005 (Forum)
The nearside rear does not cause any noise. We (me and garage) have stripped out the boot leaving nothing loose to cause rattle. Also took battery out to check if housing was secure, which it was. Garage suggested leave car with them to strip down boot. Had not got time and do not want to spend fortune on garage costs that are mechanical. Has anyone had similar problems? -
tigra won't start 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
First time she went to start it and got the ignition lights on the dash but refused to turn over. I suggested she charge the battery, switched the ignition on trying to start it again after a few hours charging and she says it just "clicked" and no lights came on the dash at all. I suggested she check the fuses, one was out but it has been replaced but still nothing happens when turning the key. -
Peugeot 106 Diesel starting problem 1 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hi - I am having real problems starting my 1995 106 Diesel on cold days - it has never been great at starting in cold weather, but now it refuses to start at all some days. The glow plugs were all replaced about 3 months ago, and the battery is nearly new, so I don't think these can be the problem. I have checked for air in the fuel lines, so this is not the problem either - help please! also, can anyone recommend a good diesel specialist in the Reading/Berkshire area? -
VW Bora - emissions warning light 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Brand new to this forum, wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Exhaust emissions warning light came on a few months back, battery cut out, car wouldn't start, and after being towed to a local garage, spent 4 weeks there before they told me that it was all down to a corroded wire. Same light came on a couple of days ago after I went over a particularly vicious speed bump. -
Golf MkIV, losing power 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Had a strange event with my (14 month old) Golf MkIV. I was coming around a busy roundabout, in 2nd and gently accelerating, when suddenly the battery warning light came on (no other warning lights) and I lost all power to the steering (and, I guess, to the assisted brakes, but it was a bit of blur). There was no murmur whatsoever from the engine to suggest that it was cutting out; one moment it was there, the next it wasn't. -
Corsa Wont Stop!!! 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Has a 3 cyl Corsa in the workshop for an engine change this afternoon. Nice easy job. All went swimmingly until startup. Connected the battery and noticed the central radio display lit up straight away before putting the key in, hmmmmm. Fired her up and let it run for a few minutes, no leaks, nice and quiet, great, switch off, er, it wont, even with the key out still chuntering along happily!! -
No power beyond 3700rpm!! HELP! 25 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I have just got my car back from having the clutch and slave cylinder replaced, at which time it seems the battery was disconnected. I don't know if this is linked to the problem I have now got, but is is a remarkable coincidence! Anyhow the problem.... When accelerating the car loses all it's go as soon as the revs reach approx. 3700 rpm, which is very annoying, and very hard to understand. -
Omega Dash Display stays on 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
. - is fine once the ignition is on, ie doesn't flick on/off - the CD security code has to be input each time the ignition is swtiched on It's now flattened a brand new battery so i can't ignore it, but the local Vauxhall bandits want £80/hour to 'investigate' before actually doing anything. Appreciate any ideas as to root cause or simple checks to make, or if it sounds like something a general auto-electrician at £30/hour could diagnose/fix. -
Vaux Senator Faulty Digital Dash Display 7 Jun 2003 (Forum)
On a \"C\" registered Vauxhall Senator 3.0 CD the dash is all digital apprt from the mileometer . My problem is that where the gauges show fuel, oil, battery, water temp , they no longer light up when the ignition is switched on , speedo and rev counter are fine . Is the problem just down to a bulb , or has the whole dash got to be replaced ? I need advice fairly quickly as im intending on buying the car .Help me please ........????? -

Fiat Punto Unreliable starting 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Once the engines fires it runs perfectly The problem can occur whether the engine is hot or cold and appears to be independent of weather conditions or dampness. I don't touch the accelerator pedal before the engine fires and the car has recently had a new battery and it passed its MOT a few months ago when the spark plugs were replaced -
Helpless Female Driver Astra Problem 25 Sep 2002 (Forum)
A 'helpless female driver' friend of mine is borrowing a 1992 Astra 1.7d and reported that the brake and battery warning lights have come on. She has stopped using the car but doesn't have the manual so can't ascertain exactly what these lights might indicate. I have told her to check the brake fluid level but she tells me that she can't open the bonnet to do so. -
Fire Suppression 8 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I've had a fire extinguisher in the car for years, but the only times I've used it was twice on other people's cars, both times nipping the blaze in the bud before it spread from the engine compartment to the rest of the car (One case was a petrol leak, the other a shorted battery which melted and ignited the wiring loom.) However, in both cases I ended up £25 or so out of pocket, since I didn't think either before or after the event to ask if the owner would reimburse me for a replacement extinguisher. -
Cold Mornings Revisited 28 Dec 2001 (Forum)
It defies my attempts to clear it by remisting very quickly, rendering my first few hundred yards an accident waiting to happen Could Darcy tell us more about his step fathers fan heater on the back shelf. How was it powered. Do I risk cracking the screen by using a battery powered hair dryer. Has anyone a favourite de icer? Thanks in advance -
Vehicle theft 28 Aug 2001 (Forum)
My brother in law and family have just returned from holiday and while in Italy somebody broke into their big american mobile home.Believe me it has every type of of alarm fitted .What the culprits did we think is connect a high powered battery to the vehicle the wrong way round and blow half the electrics to bits so disarming the alarm .They did not try to drive it away as i think it would to easily spotted. They noticed all the italian and french vehicles had left there windows and doors open with something of little value easily visible. The police blamed illegal Albanians immigrants. Its the same the world over. -
New voltage for cars 24 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Since then I've been wondering what will happen to caravan and other trailer electrics. Caravans have quite complex 12 volt systems for lighting, battery charging, and fridges etc. and there are probably other trailers that derive power from the host vehicle. British cars use the 12N and 12S trailer sockets and the Germans have developed a 13 pin DIN standard, but I wonder what will happen when we have to marry new to old.
