  • No trade plates 13 Jan 2006 (Forum)
    Both number plates back front were obsquered / replaced by white APPROVED USED BMW plates. It had no trade plates back or front. If it had passed a fixed camera at 80 mph on the motorway what would have happened? If the Police had stopped it {I assume no tax} with no trade plates what would have happened. Seems a good way be beat the speed cameras? Paul Paul {Forest of Bowland}

  • The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 9 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)

Yet what they do not say on the website is they are developing a road stud which looks like any other, yet can measure speed, contains a camera, and can communicate via radio to the "road authorities" ie police.
  • Lexus ES - yellow box trap 3 May 2024 (Forum)
I would say 2/3 of the car was in the yellow lines, however I did not impede traffic that wanted to turn into the road on their right, not that that matters I guess.  Anyway as you can see on the map there doesn't appear to be a camera, however when I checked the dashcam footage, there is a tall pole just beyond the traffic light with a CCTV like camera pointing downwards into that box.  So perhaps it was included recently and so it looks like I'm getting fined.
  • N/A - Speed camera idiocy 27 Oct 2015 (Forum)
About and hour and a half into the journey back on the A30 on a dual carriageway (the exact location isn't relevant) there is a section of road with a dip. A speed camera is sited at the bottom to deter those who are inclined to let their speed increase excessively downhill, preceded by the usual warning signs. It's pretty quiet, traffic-wise; I'm in Lane 1.
  • Tower Bridge and Speeing fine!! 22 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Also: Q: Why are the cameras not visible at the roadside A: Because of the need to preserve the nature and fabric of the Tower Bridge area and comply with the English Heritage conditions, these cameras are mounted on a gantry and are not painted yellow.
  • Case for speed cameras destroyed 29 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Surprised this subject has not been raised already. A review of the Government's speed cameras policy was demanded yesterday after official statistics showed that only five per cent of crashes are caused by drivers breaking the speed limit. Drivers who let their attention wander cause more than six times as many accidents.
  • nottingam sacks all traffic cops 22 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Unsurprisingly, riders? clubs have attacked the plan. The BMF?s Jeff Stone said: " It?s a crazy move as cameras do nothing for road safety. We need more police on the roads, not more cameras.
  • Emergency Vehicles & Red Lights 17 Oct 2010 (Forum)
On the other hand, if you were to decide to stay put in order to protect your license, hindering an emergency response, are you then guilty of a different offence?! The subject came to mind as I've recently moved to Bristol and the place is a forest of cameras of every sort, an excellent example of a misguided tactic of taking the road policing budget and blowing the lot on cameras. I have to say I think that traffic signal cameras are inherently dangerous as they 'panic' people into either tanking through the lights inches from the car in front, or slamming on the anchors the moment they turn amber.
  • Winning an argument over speed cameras 25 Dec 2008 (Forum)
A friend of mine, a very respectable lady with impeccable character, is very upset over being caught twice by mobile cameras going over the limit in areas where it was 30 but intuitively it looks like it should be higher. She couldn't see any signs. Anyway, I had a discussion with someone over how draconian her punishment is and how worried it made her, having 6 points and feeling like a criminal, when uninsured unregistered vehicles just do what they want.
  • Speeding cameras 4 Oct 2008 (Forum)
But when im driving im seeing this and that and the other car bomb it past me....and IM the one worried?! If i was snapped driving at night by a speed camera, how bright is the flash? Im assuming it'd be pretty difficult not to notice right? Like i say, i hate these people that bomb it about, they ruin it for everyone, but the seem SO strict on it it just leaves me concerned.
  • The Government and traffic 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Those of us at the sharp end know that we are hanging on by our fingernails, gradually being replaced by the much cheaper (and far more profitable) speed camera. Unfortunately, the camera does not catch disqualified/drink drivers, dangerous drivers etc etc. As the Government often like to quote statistics, it is strange that they ignore the fact that road deaths have risen, while speed cameras have proliferated and traffic officers have declined.
  • SsangYong Korando - Decision made 8 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Was offered a pre-reg (pre reg late sept 2021)  Ventura Manual in white, 6 speed, has front and rear parking sensors and reversing camera plus all the bells and whistles. The ELX base model that i was considering does not have the camera and sensors, or half leather  heated seats and no parcel shelf cover, or upper floor boot cover..
  • Dual Carriageway NIP 25 May 2008 (Forum)
Has anyone experience of or does anyone know whether a camera van parked alongside a 2 lanes in each direction/central reservation dual carriageway trunk road (not on the central reservation) can legally carry out enforcement on traffic travelling in the opposing lanes (in other words across 2 lanes and the central reservation) I ask as I have read cameras can be used multi directional but not on motorways and dual carriageways - each direction being a seperate site - although it may be that if the road has junctions this may affect the issue.
  • Cumbria Scammer Vans - New Threat! 6 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Just a quick warning to anyone driving in Cumbria from today, 1st June 2007: The 'safety' camera vans will be able to operate in ANY location from today and their locations will NOT be fixed or advertised. It is likely that cameras may operate in pairs or threes in a short stretch of road, so watch out!
