Hi all, good morning.
Ok, so i have just received a letter saying i was speeding on tower bridge, i was going 27mph at night and the bridge is a 20mph limit.
Now, i am not denying the speed limit but if you hear the only reason why they impose the speed limit on the bridge then you may be as frustrated as me.
I've got no problem with paying for the fine of £60.00 but to also have 3 penalty points added is a joke! This is what one question on the document says:
Q: All this is just about making money, isn't it? A: Absolutely not. The sole purpose of the Tower Bridge cameras is to prevent structural damage and preserve our English heritage. The police do not receive any money from the fine imposed by the court.
Why should penalty points be added to this fine if its not dangerous going 27mph but only to support the integrity of the bridge!?
Also:
Q: Why are the cameras not visible at the roadside A: Because of the need to preserve the nature and fabric of the Tower Bridge area and comply with the English Heritage conditions, these cameras are mounted on a gantry and are not painted yellow.
I thought the law was to have speed cameras clearly visible?
I am in my right mind to write a letter and actually go to court, i understand the risks of the court fees etc but i think my principals are taking over.....I travel on this bridge daily to avoid the congestion charge, a few months back i must have easily gone over 30mph but had no fine, seems like coming up-to xmas and new years they want to make this extra cash.
