  • Volkswagen Passat - Tyres that don't seal to rims... 21 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, Have a 99 VW Passat TDi that I've run for ages, huge mileage and best car I ever bought. However in it's old age a couple of the alloys don't seem to be able to seal with their tyres. It's quite annoying, and means they need a pump-up every week or so. Can anyone suggest the most cost-effective fix?
  • Ford Focus 1.8 LX TDDI (2000) - Where to get a fuel pump inexpensively? 5 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 10 year-old Ford Focus 1.8 LX TDDI. It lost power while driving earlier this week and wouldn’t start again. The local Ford dealer in Northern Ireland is quoting £660 to have a new pump fitted since that the problem.
  • Volkswagen polo IV 2005-2009 - Service manual / repair guide 17 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I have recently bought this model and have been searching around for a service manual or a repair guide. I had this on my old Honda Civic and proved very useful to gain knowledge on the layout of the car aswell as when i needed to do little repairs here and there e.g. changinf the fuse for the back lights. I have searched aroung for a Haynes guide for this model and could not find it.

Under-engineered, poor build, abused  or just wear and tear?-- Who knows... I.thought it surprising though on a car so recent.

  • Toyota Prius III (2009 - ) - Reliability ? 29 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I was thinking of getting a new-ish one any keeping it for a some years. Also, after I'm finished with it, do you think a 10 year old Prius would be worth anything after the battery system is out of warranty. . Keith
  • Renault Megane II (2002 - 2008) - Automatic Wipers 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
If it's just spitting with rain, they often flap about the screen like John McCrirrick having a fit and if it's fair chucking down they often stay resolutely still. I've looked in vain for a way to switch them off and return to good old intermittent wipers but to no avail. Does anybody have any pearls of wisdom, short of changing the car, please? Many thanks.
  • Max budget of £6k what? 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Ideal car would be something with the height and space of the Tino but be slightly more modern and something that isn't going to age quickly, rules the Picasso out I think. 2nd gen Focus seems to fit the bill but what else should I consider?

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - Spare parts prices 21 May 2009 (Forum)
This rather insignificant piece of fuel proof hose is basically a 2" bore 90 degree rubber bend, that joins the fuel filler pipe to the fuel tank. I'm not complaining that this part is needed as the car is almost 10 years old, but the retail price (excluding VAT) is £21.67! The kind man in the Peugeot dealership gave me 8% discount after much grovelling, (the part is NOT available via GSF etc.), but this must be one of the biggest rip-off's I've ever come across.
  • Internal rust on quarter panal - advice 12 Mar 2009 (Forum)
My dads rear panal above the wheel arch has started to rot through in the last couple of weeks, there is lots and lots of paint bubbles now and it won't be long before it gets really bad. The rest of the car is solid, its very reliable and although old it would be a shame to get rid of it. My question is what can we do? How much is a professional repair likely to cost (in terms of hours really as labour varies from one city to the next).

  • France - 30 Years behind UK 21 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I remember filling up with petrol close to Dover in past times (maybe even 30 years ago) because the price in France was so ferocious. It's like old times - diesel fuel is more or less the same price now after the Pound has dropped against the Euro, but petrol is going to cost you around £1.20 a litre. I hear that some of the booze in the "cheap" shops at Calais is now more expensive than your local Sainsburys and the car parks are empty.

  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.4 head gasket oil leak. 6 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi I wonder if anyone can help, I have a 54 plate Peugeot 307 1.4 Zest and it has just been in for the safety recall, however we picked up an oil leak before hand which we asked them to check out and have now been told that it is originating from the head gasket, and a price for repair quoted as £700.00, can anyone tell me if I have a leg to stand on with Peugeot as the car is now 3 and a half years old? Thanks very much for any help
