Citroen C3 diesel exclusive - warning lights on dashboard 12 Feb 2016 (Forum)
My C3 is now about 13 years old and has been running well. Now I find that the engine computer warning light comes on intermittently, particularly when cold or driving slowly. Also, there is a vertical line of orange lights on the left hand side of the display that normally come on one by one until 3 are illuminated as the car warms up. -
Ford C-Max - faulty engine response 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have an old ('04) Ford C-Max with a 2.0 diesel engine which I believe is pre DPF. The car has an engine problem which, though very intermittent, is potentially dangerous. The last two times it happened were both at junctions, the engine idling as I waited to pull out into a larger road (in one case a fast A road). -
Vauxhall Insignia 2.0D 160 or Hyundai I40 1.7D 136 25 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Will it spend a fair bit of time in the repair bay? He always buys his cars from the lease company for his wife, so he wants to make the right long term choice. She has just inherited his 3 year old Mondeo 2.2 diesel which has been trouble free. Sadly, the mondeo is no longer on his list (not really a list only having 2 cars!) -
VW Golf - V5 Logbook and Dealers? 12 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi All, I bought a 2009 Golf last week that was supposed to be a one owner car with full VW service history. I have now found out that the dealer bought the car nearly 2 years ago and has been using it. Then to completely ruin my purchase I have a found out the first owner was using a garage to stamp the service book using an old VW stamp which means my car has no dealer history. -
Cheap/reliable/economic/low insurance car needed 22 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hi, i've just started a new job that doesn't supply a company van like my old job did, meaning that my 3 Litre Hilux Surf is now my daily commute instead of just off roading toy.. So it needs to go. I need a car that's cheap, reliable and economical. I plan to have it for about 7 months before giving it to my sister (17) for her first car, so it needs to be ultra cheap to insure as well. -
Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi (110) Titanium 2009 - Ford Focus Ex-Rental - mileage 23 Sep 2011 (Forum)
HI, After a long look and lots of research, I have decided to buy a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi (110) in the Zetec, Ghia or Titanium trim. I do 18000m a year and a mix of motorway, country and urban driving. I wanted a car that was no more than 5 years old and with around 40,000 on clock. I have found a 2009 Titanium from Quicks dealers (part of Pendragon group) and it is an ex-hertx rental car for sure (I realise all the arguments for and against) for £8,800. -
Offered a loan car - is there a catch ? 17 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Insurance details have come to light and the Freelander user's (I hesitate to say driver as the term implies a degree of skill clearly absent in this case) insurance, Tesco, have offered a loan car to my 20 year old son. Is there a catch ? Who is likely to be responsible for insuring the loan car ? Any dos and don'ts in this situation ? I'm short of experience in dealing with this sort of thing ... -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 98 1.0 Injector problem? 5 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, First post and used to old mechanical cars so please be gentle!! The mother-in-law has a 98 1l Corsa that she keeps at ours for when she visits. It has two problems: * Speedo doesn't work (think this is the sensor on the gearbox) * Runs slightly rough at idle. -
Trade Centre / Car Giant discounts 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
has anyone tried this ? their cars used to be cheaper , I am certain. Now , looking at A class MB, 3 year old models just out of warantee seem to be retailing there for appx 50% of negotiated CURRENT new model prices , if not more , plus they want £91 ' document fee' and £55 to send the log book to DVLA . -
Has fuel consumption improved? 29 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The Aygo gets 61mpg on the combined cycle, so I would expect 70+mpg at motorway speeds. At 70mph the Aygo gets less than 50mpg though, and at 60mph it is still less than 60mpg. My car is about 8 years old, and gets just 46mpg on the combined cycle, but doing 70mph on a motorway journey (with slower roads too) I can get over 55mpg. So dispite having higher fuel consumption, and paying more tax, my car seems to be much greener! -
Please help me choose a car 24 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I will be returning to live in the UK next month after 5 years away, and I need to buy a secondhand (c.3 years old) car quickly. I want a petrol 1.4 or 1.6, to keep insurance down. A Focus would fit the bill, but I have been attracted by the Corolla, and Mazda-3 because of their supposed greater reliability. However, I hired a Corolla about 6 years ago and I remember what an awful gearchange it had. -
Guard your keys! A reminder. 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
A week or so ago a 6 year old ordinary Honda Civic was stolen fom a front drive in my street. The elderly couple were in bed when the car went at 1:30 in the morning as logged on CCTV. It is believed that the front door was opened via the letterbox (there was no bolt on the bottom of the door or a door chain) The car keys were in the hall. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - New second-hand value of Mondeo 2.5 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
All those nice comfortable large cars, just a few years old, now consigned to imminent scrapping would be worth several thousand pounds in less countries that are not quite so eco-bonkers. -
Porsche 944 (1982 - 1993) - Advice, please, on the 944 convertible.... 24 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I currently run a Cappuccino as my "weekend fun car", but after a recent operation, my wife can't get into it, so it looks as if I'll have to get rid of it :-( Shame, because it's really the only car I've ever owned which takes me back about 40 years and turns me into a grinning 18-year-old.... -
VW Polo key fob 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I just had to pick up a colleague from a supermaket car park after she went into town and got somebody in a car spares shop to change the battery in her remote key fob (the old one was still working, unsure why changed). He just popped it out (not sure of size but looked like half a AAA battery but a little thinner) and put a new one in and, hey presto, the car won't unlock, and when she uses the key (which is her only key) to unlock alarm goes off and car is immobilised. -
Taking the car to France, advice please 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
In August, I'll be visiting friends near Limoges for a week. OUTWARD: It will just be my 11 yr old son's treat (and mine!) without the girls, so I thought it would be good to make a driving trip of it for him (the girls would want to fly). Would it be best to go via Shuttle to Calais, then drive from there, or better to put the car on a train (at Calais?) -
Morris Minors for teen drivers 1 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Rather than all of us paying ultra high premiums that reflect the costs of said teenagers wrapping their performance pram around the local oak tree, why not make all new and learner drivers drive a low perfomance car ?. How about retooling for the dear old Moggy Minor with a few modern safety additions but no performance additions ?. These cars would recognisable at a glance especially if a uniform colour and would not be capable of any high speed nonsence. -

Use other party's insurer? 5 May 2006 (Forum)
Today the other guy's insurer contacted me and offered to take care of everything - arranging to have the work done by one of their repairers and supply a courtesy car. This would save me having to make a claim and initially forking out for the excess. My only worry is that having a body repair done other than by an official agent may invalidate the warranty. The car is a 2 year old Alfa 156, the damage appears to be superficial scuffing of the (plastic) rear bumper. -
Cars to carry Bicycles 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
