I have as others have had a random fan cutting in and also on shut down that runs and almost drains the battery. Alongside this is the issue of the 'AntiPollution fault and engine light that comes on. History - A year ago after a long blast back from Devon the warning came on. A couple of short trips round town just before taking the car to a local 'good' Peugeot' garage it went out. -

Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 1.2 Starts then wont start 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Almost every sensor has been replaced in the last year by Renault, new crank sense loom, metal crash box removed, new coil and leads, relays by the battery checked and terminals cleaned, (although it will run from cold and can be restarted when hot) Its almost as if something that energises the coil, cuts out after ign is turned off and is failing to switch on again after its been run... -

Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.8 Do Engine Warning Lights Get Bored? 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Anyway, the EGR valve I'd put in would probably have benefited from a clean and I put the light coming back on as being the valve sticking. The car still drove normally. As what I thought might be proof, I disconnected the battery to reset the light and looked to see how many miles I could go before it came back. I figured if the valve didn't work at all it would be back in a few miles. It was over 1000 miles before it came back so I felt happy with my diagnosis. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.8 Alternator Problems? 14 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I got it home and it run ok like before, the next morning it started up first time as per but 1/2 mile down road i pulled up at a junction and stopped in traffic and the rev needle went straight upto 4k 5k 6k revs to point i had to turn engine off, it did this all the time so i took it back to garage and they had it for day and it come bk on except the inside light when door opens was flickering and all the dash lights flicker barring when i got foot on accelorator, if i put window heaters on it dips the lights n dash, i was told it was a faulty alternator but i took it back n they said its fine but it just pasted mot and now when i press break pedal my front side lights come on, i know thats earth problem but when start now? how do i find out if i got right alternator in the car. Sometimes the battery light comes on and off wwhile driving and a couple of times it stall but starts straight away but then the speedo doesnt wok but rev counter n everything else do then after a few miles the speedo just starts working again. -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 95 1171 Turns over but will not start 5 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I have re-seated all of the fuel injection electrical connectors I can find, including what I think are the fuel pump relays in a box between the battery and the nearside strut top, all to no avail. Today I managed to start it by dribbling some petrol into the air intake, having removed the air cleaner. The engine then ran well & restarted repeatedly without problem. -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.4 (8v) Failure to start after running fine - 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It was recovered to a garage, who spent two days looking at it intermettently. They reckon it was caused by a battery not at its peak (unlikely as it's only about a year old), and found some fault codes in the ECU which they cleared & it was then OK. Similar thing happened on saturday - wouldn't restart after being parked for 5 minutes. -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 2.5 V6 Auto - Auto cooling system? 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The water marks inside the engine bay are all at the front right side, clearly some splashing from the front has gone across the side of the battery, the water pump drive belt and other items in that area. The marks make it look like it has come from very low down and has blown up into thr bay. There is a small rad in behind the front of the lower bumper, in front of the main rad. -
Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - iCTDI a Long term review 7 Oct 2007 (Forum)
It doesn't tramline on Pirelli P6000 Powergy tyres. The alternator blew at 20k miles, boiling the battery and ruining a holiday in France when the recovery company and Honda France were completely unable to sort it for nearly two weeks. Honda UK were brilliant - they intervened all guns blazing and got us sorted out, so due credit to them. -

Rover 416 problems (seazure and clutch) 30 Jul 2004 (Forum)
My believe is that either the alternator is seazed after water has dripped onto it after 5 weeks, or that the water pump it's self is seazed. Both of these sound likely as when you try to turn the engine over with a charged battery it struggles to turn, and when it does turn once it makes the same screeching noise. I don't need this engine, but for the ease of moving it to our new house in a few weeks it would be handy for it to have it's own power even though its being towed there. -
Xantia Central Locking Fault 30 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I've about got used to manual locking again (very frustrating since the door lock pullers were never designed for manual use) and the key holes are wearing out because they were never designed for frequent use either. If I re-enable (with battery disconnected)it to see if anything I do has had any effect, the locking then only operates on a "one button straight to deadlock and alarm set", whereas before I had one button on the key to lock and the second button to deadlock and set the alarm. -
"Check Engine" warning light 14 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Perfomance the same, consumption, temperature, oil pressure, CD volume - all the same. In the course of investigation it became apparant that if the battery is disconnected, even for a brief time, then the light stays off - usually for a week or so - then it comes back on. Weirder still, sometimes it goes off by itself and stays off for a week or so. -
Jaguar I-Pace - I-Pace nightmare? how to get solution/justice? 14 Aug 2025 (Forum)
The vehicle has had persistent Charging and 'high voltage system' faults which occur frequently when trying to DC charge it. It has also had 1 brake failure attributed to one of the 12V batteries (replaced a few months back) Car has been at dealerships (2 different ones) a total of 4 times, with a month taken at a time and no escalation as they can't 'replicate the fault' for the high voltage and charging errors. -
EV depreciation after three years - 23 May 2023 (Forum)
Any ideas? A new MG4 is £30k. A 3 yr old Audi eTron is £30k, with 5 yrs of battery warranty remaining and the option to extend the warranty. For some, that might represent a bargain, and a scenario of where EV running costs are better than ICE! -
Vauxhall Meriva - 2011 Vauxhall Meriva ABS/TC issue 30 Oct 2022 (Forum)
However, since then I bought a code reader to check the codes. Which tell me the codes a re these: C1208 - ABS Inlet Valve Coil Rear Circuit Short To Battery C1233 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal Missing The error code says left but they've been replacing the right side! Now I spoke to them because the code says it's the left sensor but they've be working on the right! -
Citroen C4 Picasso - Handbrake faulty message on Cit C4 57 17 Jun 2022 (Forum)
What also happens, is if I don't turn the ignition back over as it tries to stall, and instead I rev it some to stop it cutting out, for about 1-2 minutes the car 100% has a drag to it, a real weight and getting it up to 30 on the road isn't as easy as it should be. I've had the motor to a garage, and he just suggested to change the battery as it was running at 35% workrate, which I did, sadly to no avail. I've once thought it was as simple as changing my biting foot position on the clutch, maybe I wasn't giving it the way it liked it, so I actually adjusted my driving, and I hit the perfect point for the car where I'm not putting it through unnessecary stress to set off, but that didn't solve the problem either. -
Mokka E - Moving to BEV - no second car no backup. 1 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Sadly the small car in the Transit sandwich we crawled past looked very bad indeed. I read to maximise battery longevity, only charge when necessary and try to keep the level between 80pct and 20pct. So that's the goal. Some advice from the dealer or the manual would have been good.... Oh I recently checked the tyre pressures. -
Volkswagen Jetta 1.6tdi (2010) - Intermittent non starting issue 29 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I took it to an auto electrics mechanic who said that the car started every time he tried it. He said the battery, starter and alternator were all fine. The diagnostics test did not show any fault that would relate to a non start issue. At the weekend and when i would use it more frequent during the day i find that it will happen again on the 3rd or 4th time i would go to use the car.
