Volkswagen Fox (2006 - ) - Reliability 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Digital Odometer/Clock occasionally loses its figures - but so far they have always re-appeared. 3. Nearside electric window very slow - binding in runners ? Overall:- Delightful to drive with sweet 1.2 engine and gearbox. Good visibility from high driving seat (except for "A" pillars). Excellent room for tall folk in the back. Good headlights. Good ride and safe handling. So far excellent cheap motoring for town and country use. -
Discovery 3 vs. Ford Galaxy 31 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone offer me any insight into what owning either of these cars is like? This would be our only car, as my husband cannot drive, so it has to be able both to drive around town and drag all the kit 3 little people need for holidays. Thanks for your help -
what happens to your car if you're nicked? 24 Jan 2008 (Forum)
A bit of a bar-room discussion led to this: If you're stopped by the police (randomly or otherwise) and you fail a road-side breath test what happens to your car? 1) does a policeman drive it to the station you're taken to or is it left at the roadside? 2) if it's left at the roadside does that mean it may be left on a motorway hard shoulder - how do you recover it? 3) do the police have unlimited insurance cover ie what if you were driving a Veyron and not a £200 banger? -
Rear brake lights 28 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have been driving for 25 years. In the last few years I have noticed an escalation in cars driving without brake lights. Having almost running into the back of a few. Is this due to owners not checking their lights regularly. -
Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 1995 2.0 16v - hesitating- no power 11 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hello, I have a 1995 M reg Cavalier 2.0i 16v petrol which recently has started hesitating when accelerating or driving at a steady speed. It loses power and nothing happens when you press the accelerator. After a couple of seconds it jerks a bit and clears to drive normally again. It happens randomly when engine is hot or cold and can go a couple of days without trouble. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 98 to 04 - diesel engine juddering at speed 4 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hi we have a problem with our ford that no one seems able to diagnose.... It judders badly whenever we go over about 50 miles an hour. garage suggests it might be drive shafts but say they can' t tell unless they actually change them. Wheels have been balanced etc so not that. Its a diesel estate and has about 80K on the clock. We can't really drive it at the mo as its quite an uncomfortable ride - anyone out there know anything????! -
Honda Civic UK (2001 - 2005) - 2004 1.6SE VTEC - Jerky transmission 9 Nov 2007 (Forum)
My 2004 Civic 1.6SE VTEC suffers from a severe transmission jerk. This is most noticeable while travelling in heavy traffic moving at walking pace, driving mainly in 1st or 2nd gear. It is nigh on impossible to manage a smooth drive at this sort of speed. Careful 'riding' on the clutch helps, but does not eradicate entirely. I have owned the car from new, it has covered 23000miles, and has been regularly serviced. -
An Overtaking Question 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
An overtaking question..if you were driving at the speed limit down a two way A road and you gain on slower moving traffic, the vehicle at the rear of the line of traffic is hanging back very far, 5-6 or more seconds behind traffic at 40ish mph, you then take a fine opportunity to pass this last vehicle. -

Leon Mk1 - 130se or 150 cupra? 16 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Is it all electronic, or does the 150 have a bigger turbo? Again, I'm looking for the most progressive drive that suits both sprited country driving and soothes me during the stop-start section, so lower boost pressure would probably be better! Anybody got experience of one or both types? -
'95 Legacy 2.2 auto - Engine cuts out 14 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Hi, i'm after some possible causes to a problem I have with my 1995 Subaru Legacy auto estate 2.2 GX. Yesterday whilst driving the engine cut out several times, petrol was ok, when driving i lost all the revs then a couple of seconds later the engine cut out, I put the gearbox into N, turned the key and away we went again. -
Unfair World 12 Jul 2007 (Forum)
A friend recently got caught by a speed camera. His fault maybe? The crime was driving about ~3 m.p.h. over the speed limit on a deserted urban dual carriageway where the limit had been reduced from 40 to 30 by extending the 30 m.p.h. zone outwards. However he could have committed far more serious offences such as ignoring traffic lights, ignoring pedestrian crossings, etc. -
Police motorcycle (Deauville) 10 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Because it is white and has chevrons at the back, it is quite amazing how drivers especially on the motorway seem to slow down with me about. And even more amazing, having noticed the worser drivers, they seem to drive quickly on the fast lane, and as they get closer (metres away) they start slowing down. No wonder they have so many dents - drive too fast, and don't look far ahead and don't take care. Really brilliant bike - and great getting respect on the road. -
Loss of power steering Octavia 1.9 TDi 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Car is a 52 plate 1.9TDi 110bhp Octavia (not the PD engine). 85000 miles. Cambelt replaced @ 80,000 miles service. Was driving to work this morning when, having braked reasonably sharply, I discovered upon moving off again that I had lost power steering and the battery light on the dashboard was illuminated. A quick check under the bonnet didn't reveal anything obvious and as I was only half a mile from work I thought that I'd drive the rest of the way, which I did without steering assistance. -
Vauxhall Meriva 1.7CDTi Chirruping ! 21 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Backing off the throttle stops it, and once through the rev range, the problem goes too. Its done it from new, and vauxhall have just changed the alternator drive belt and tensioner, which seems a reasonable diagnosis. however, the fault is still there - although much improved. Is this a common fault? what else does this belt drive ? (the engine bay is so packed that you can't see anything clearly) Thanks for any advice Subject line altered to clarify make and type -
Vaux Zafira stalls after motorway stints 30 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi Our recently-acquired 53-reg Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 petrol keeps juddering and stalling after doing any kind of motorway driving. It seems to happen after revving at over 4000 rpm, e.g. after doing 80mph for a few minutes or tackling a really steep long hill. When you slow down, e.g. approaching a junction, the car starts to judder when you're coasting or driving normally. -
Should I buy? 6 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have signed up to buy a 2001 Passat 1.8 20V SE car from a delaership pending a test drive. When I first saw the car I was unable to tet drive it as it had a flat battery. They informed me today that they couldnt get it started and were sending it to a VW garage to go through a full diagnostic check and get it up and running. -
VW Passat Steering Problems 3 Mar 2007 (Forum)
A couple of days ago I noticed a pulsing on the wheel on full lock whilst parking. It then developed a knocking noise whilst driving that seemed to come and go. I have just topped up the steering pump reservoir which was on Min. The noise was still there so I have removed the engine cover and whilst ticking over I have noticed that the knocking noise is coming from the alternator/steering pump drive belt tensioner which seems to be vibrating badly and the belt is whipping. -
