Vaux Zafira stalls after motorway stints - mustard
Hi

Our recently-acquired 53-reg Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 petrol keeps juddering and stalling after doing any kind of motorway driving.

It seems to happen after revving at over 4000 rpm, e.g. after doing 80mph for a few minutes or tackling a really steep long hill. When you slow down, e.g. approaching a junction, the car starts to judder when you're coasting or driving normally. When you engage the clutch, the revs die all the way and it stalls. It usually re-starts, but very reluctantly, just using the ignition key.

I think I still have a 3-month warranty thing lying around somewhere, but just wondered if people had any advice or ideas before I take it to a garage.

If it's got a warranty, then you must have bought it from a trader?

Take it back. The current legal presumption is that any fault that appears within six months of purchase was there when bought - unless provable otherwise.

Fixing this - possibly a MAF fault - is the sellers problem. Do not get sidetracked into claiming on a dubious extended warranty; their small print will tie your hands. Your rights are against the seller, not them.

indeed, but this also could be the EGR sticking open. However, I agree that the seller should sort the problem.

Yes; I'm not too sure as to the exact fault here, hence the "possibly."

I was mainly going by the reluctance to restart; maybe suggesting over-fuelling at speed and fouled plugs, but there's many potential causes and not enough info to make any concrete assumptions.

Yes, I think that's true. I added the suggestion of EGR, because, like MAF sensors, they are a common problem on some Vauxhall engines - but of course, this is also just a "possibly", and some diagnosis is needed.

I had the astra with the same symptoms i was trading it in but noticed the fuel pump making stange noises like it was struggling, ok upto 40 mph but over cut out & restarted ok maybe it goes into limp home mode? no codes stored in ecu at the time!! good luck
