Test driving a private car - just passed 20 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I've looked into temporary insurance but it seems all the ones I've found don't seem to want to cover me, presumably because I've not held my licence for a year or satisfy their age criteria (I am 22). Besides driving without the insurance on a crowded public road - the thought of getting done for it and having points etc, makes me run a mile from it, but how can you get a feel for driving the car if you can't drive it? -
Suzuki Swift 06 1.3 - Newbie - Car servicing help please! 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, My first post here - hope it's in the right place! My car is in need of a service & MOT, the first ones not covered by the warranty. My car has done nearly 37,000 miles, and had its last service this time last year. In the past I've used the dealer, but they seem rather expensive - certainly everyone I work with says so. -

Watch out - Workmen about 31 May 2007 (Forum)
Just had a note from my youngest boy - less than 1 yr old car parked at work on Friday - car park next door being relaid (unknown to him as he gets in at 7 am). Due to high winds the "grit and pink fluffy dice " form the relay has covered his and 20 other cars. -
fish slime and car paint 2 Oct 2006 (Forum)
around a month ago I went night fishing, and caught a few bream, which any angler will tell you are covered in smelly slime. By the time i got home it was about 2am, and since I was pooped, I couldn't be bothered to put my gear away properly. I took the net out of the boot (so it didn't smell out the car) and casually chucked it on the bonnet. -
primera - timing chain or cambelt 29 May 2005 (Forum)
I wonder if the worksheet just covers all eventualities (ie not specific to my car), as I believe the Primera (which is a 2.0 petrol on an X plate) has a timing chain not a cambelt - in which case nothing needs to be changed. Can one of the experts out there confirm that my car has a timing chain, and that therefore it does not need to be changed? -
60mile commute to work 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Or I could go out and buy a cheap car (£1k) to drive to work and keep the Golf for weekends. Any thoughts on what would be a relatively cheap way of covering the 60miles? -
Avensis Diesel 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Is there a way to reset the 'average mpg' on the computer? So far I can only work out that it resets itself when I refuel the car. So far I've covered 300 miles in the car and although it doesn't perform like my old VW, it is a nice drive with great build quality. Regards, John -

VW Dear Honest John. I bought a 200 passat estate - Faulty Remote Locking 15 Jun 2013 (Forum)
They had taken the Passat as a part exchange. I paid £4200 for the car with 58,000 miles and a full VW service history. The car was offered with a 3 month warranty from Autoguard . I took the car for a test drive, but did not check the Infra Red remote locking. -

End of lease problem 17 Jun 2020 (Forum)
This seems to be an attempt to cover losses they expect to make when sending the car to auction, not seen small print of the contract but he assures me it is their responsibility to collect the vehicle at lease end: it's their failure which caused the problem, why should he continue to pay for a car he can't use? -
Volkswagen - Delayed delivery/lead times on new VW models 31 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I am looking for feedback from any customers of VW who have had; A gesture of goodwill from VW UK to cover the addtional VAT for cars that should have been delivered in 2010? A loan car, or a contribution towards hire car charges? Any help would be appreciated, I can't get any sense from anyone so far, VW customer care don't seem to care and I have frustrated customers who just want to take delivery of their new cars. -

Towed for being parked under a tree 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
A large yellow notice was slapped on, requiring removal within 24 hours, and it was then towed. Indeed, when I collected the car, it was covered with bird droppings and bits of tree. Clearly I had parked under a tree with a bird's nest in it. So, on balance, is that a fair cop? The car had a fresh MOT and was insured (as the computer would no doubt have told them).
