406 HDI. don\'t know what to do. 19 Aug 2004 (Forum)
i was looking to change the vectra for the 406 HDI 110. only thing is i can\'t find one with reasonable miles. but i found one with 105,000 miles. full service history etc. really good price. it\'s on a 2001 plate. so question is. does this engine last. i bought my vectra with more miles on it and had no troubles. but i hear stories of this HDI engine doing 500.000 miles plus. i don\'t know wether to go for a slightly older plate or just get the newer one with slightly higher miles. -
Passat Problems (Mass Airflow Meter??) 18 Aug 2004 (Forum)
With 150k on the clock, the car isn't worth much, and I'd like to avoid the 'we'll swap it out and see what happens' approach - which can soon rack up the £££s!! Thanks, David -
Good designs spoiled! 26 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Alfa Romeo 156 - offset number plate looks like a trade plate. Citroen C2 - design spoiled by silly side window styling. Early 90's BMW 3 series - (when BMW still made good looking cars!)- oddly sculpted sill panel looked like it has been dented by driving over a high kerb! Cheers, Sofa Spud -
A 4x4 Is Born 25 Jul 2004 (Forum)
This time he transforms an old rust-bucket Range Rover into the ultimate bolder-crawling beauty! Well that\'s what the website says - although to me the pictures on the website look more like a Land Rover than a Range Rover. http://www.i2itelevision.com/4x4 All 4x4 haters are banned from posting in this thread, as well as also being banned from watching the show. -
Fabia petrol - Groaning! 24 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Sounds like some pump is pressurising upon turning on the ignition circuit before starting engine. Noise seems to be coming from n/s engine bay. Should I worry? Advice most welcome! Thanks. -
Rally Turkey 28 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Gronholm had to slow down as his co driver had given up. Turned out that a piece of steel had pierced the floor and the co driver\'s seat and hit him in \"****\" (Gronholms words not mine! Apparantly its Finish for bottom\") Fortunatly his posterior only sustained bruising but it could have been extremely nasty if you know what I mean. -

Still got your 'ears on' ? 26 May 2004 (Forum)
Does anyone still have and use CB in their car? I remember in the early 80's almost every other car sprouting a DV27/Firestick/K40 etc., but haven't seen any for ages, although I dare say some truckers still use them. Even Ford, IIRC, used to fit them to some new cars. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the kiddy factor that killed it off - I got involved in it around '78 but very rapidly cooled off when it became legal in '81 and rapidly acquired my amateur radio licence. -
Vectra rear suspension. Differing info. 22 May 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve read on here that the rear suspension on the Vectra (mine\'s a year 2000 - X reg) is adjustable. My nearside tyre on the rear wore on the outer edge, suggesting either the tracking is toeing out or the camber angle is incorrect. Anyway, I\'ve had new tyres fitted to the front and the old ones donated to the rears to replace the worn ones. -
106 rear brakes 21 May 2004 (Forum)
( not both wheels, just the passenger side rear wheel). Some issue with the brake cable or shoes...I am wondering if the shoe(s) is worn out and is out of place or something or that the insides could just need lubricating.... What I need to know is how to take the dam drum off !!!! is there an adjustment mechnism that will release the tension on the shoes to allow me to take the drum off , and if so where is it ? -
Help Please? Rover Metro 1.4 GTA - 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
As far as I know, these cars are notorious for this problem? Could anyone please tell me how much this might more or less cost me to fix if that\'s the problem? Or any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks Jo... -
peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 Unleaded ?? 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I have been offered a pug 1.9 205 gti thay is a non cat version, that the current owner uses with high octane petrol. From various pug websites it seems that only the later 1.9's fitted with catalytic converters will run on 95 ron unleaded petrol (and have a lower BHP), where the one'a prior to about 1992 will only run 98 ron fuel. Can the older 1.9 pugs be converted to run on normal 95 ron unleaded or will I be doomed to forever fill up this car with super unleaded or fuel additive. -
pug 306 suspension probs? 17 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Hi all A couple of weeks ago i noticed a loud grinding/grating/quick knocking noise coming from my front n/s on my 2L 306 xsi 1994. The noise is only noticable when accelerating from standstill or in 2nd gear and pulling away sharpish. There's no other noises when on full lock, turning corners gently or going over bumps in a straight line. -

More auction prices 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Thought that a P reg Alfa GTV in black, for £4650 looked good (if you're not of nervous disposition) to £15 for a renault 15 with MOT till Nov 04. As always, small cars were strong. Up to 3 grand for S and T reg 3dr Clios. Considering I paid £3200 for a 2000 Wreg 5dr a year ago at the same auction, I reckon I could get that money back. Told the wife I'm going to put it up for sale. I've noticed that a similar age car in the class above (Megan etc), sells for about a grand cheaper. -
Audi A3,Seat Leon or Saab? 3 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I am in the market for a sporty diesel (i do a lot of biz miles and need something more economical than a gtv),smaller than the BMW, but bigger and more reliable than an alfa gtv. I am considering the audi TDI 2.0 s, the Seat Leon 1.9 TDi sport,or cupra or a Saab (not sure which model). Any guidance, comments,or reviews would be appreciated. My budget is up to c£20,000, although a lot depends on the PX value of the Alfa. -

fiesta mk 4/mk 5 18 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I was told by a Ford dealer that i have one of the last fiesta mk4's(face lifted version-focus style lights/smiley grill), the car was built in november 99 and i understand the new shape fiesta mk5 was sold from november 99 onwards. Does anyone know when the mk4b actually finished production as i keep seing mk4b's on a 51 and 02 plates, this is a bit confusing and quite the opposite to what i have been told by my ford dealer, did ford make the mk4b and the mk5 side by side for a while of would these mk4b's be somewhat old stock ? -
Injection pump settings - citroen bx 3 Nov 2003 (Forum)
It came with a CAV injector pump and its existing injectors but ran very badly. The garage replaced it and the injectors with my original engine\'s Bosch pump and injectors and everything runs very smoothly - BUT the engine is not as lively and not as fast. Technical data indicates the later 1905 cc diesal was about 5 hp stronger. Should I expect a fall off in performance because of this - should the pump be tuned?
