Mazda 626 (1997 - 1999) - Black dots embedded in paint work - pic included 15 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Washing and polishing car in the fine sunshine today for first time since purchase (3 months) and had a really good nosey at the paintwork. All fine except on bonnet and lower wheel arch where they are are covered in little black dots. -
Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 04 1.5 High level brake light cluster not working 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I've just noticed that the high level brake light cluster is not working on SWMBO's car. Other brake lights are working fine. Does anyone know if this fault could be fuse related or something more serious? It was too dark for me to start messing around pulling fuse covers off etc so I will look tomorrow. -

Mazda MX5 (2005 - ) - Buying a used Mazda MX5 22 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone with a post-2005 example kindly comment on what to look for please? I would buy from a Mazda franchise. The Mazda Approved system seems to cover a lot of points. Is it trustworthy in practice? -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.8 - Engine slow to warm up on cold mornings 19 Feb 2008 (Forum)
2001 1.8i LX Petrol {year and engine details should have been in subject header! - now added as per ignored requests} On cold mornings my car takes ages to get to temperature. The temperature gauge hardly moving until I have covered upto 6 or 7 miles. The heater output consequently is also very poor. The revs at idle even after a considerable distance show that the mixture is still rich. -
London to Brighton run 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Although I'm sure much of this was due to the reactions of the gobsmacked drivers of more modern vehicles being confronted with a side on view of something that's lasted a century or more. Do the authorities turn a blind eye to the junctions that have cameras covering them? -
Price of tarmac 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
OK, this is only peripherally 'car related'. I need my yard and workshop frontage (quite a big area) tarmacing. Had a chap round this morning and I'm being quoted nearly £70/tonne for tarmac. Given I need 60-80 tonnes to cover the area that seems a lot just for raw materials (quarry waste is also needed - about £27/tonne I'm told). -
mondeo lights 6 Nov 2006 (Forum)
When I switch the lights on, there is a fast, clicking sound from the back of the lights. It comes from under the light plastic cover. It appears to be from a black plastic housing of some sort at the back of the bulbs. A couple of wires go to the housing. It is the near side of the car so access is terrible due to the position of the Battery and Fuses. -
If MTC can wax lyrical about his 300C... 4 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The engine bay is covered in Audi logos, and the dashboard is straight clone of an Audi one too. Very impressed with it. That's all. You will now be returned to your usual programming. -
Passat diesel pump recall 5 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Read on the Forum about the recall (ref R/2004/211) concerning the possible breaking of diesel pump-cover bolts and subsequent fuel leak. How can I tell, besides asking the dealer, if this car has had the recall? Will it be marked in the service book? Anything else I should be looking for before handing over the balance? -
Lowering a Fiat Barchetta 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
In fact that´s bit of a fib, I´ve bought the springs from eBay for ?60 for the set of 4 and they claim to lower the car 25-30mm. Aesthetically I think the B rides a bit high. I don´t want to completely pimp it to the tarmac, and would appreciate any benefit in roadholding over the standard Fiat springs. The new ones are made by Vogtland and have covered (apparently) just 2000km. -
Vauxhall Warranty OR lack of 28 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Mudflap itself is not the problem, the middle of 3 securing self tappers has sheared, so the flap needs to come of, remander of sheared screw removed and new screw fittiing. Here's the nub, the car was bought from then June 04,has just over 13K on the clock has full VX SH.I am informed that the mudflaps are not covered under 3 year warranty. VX don't sell self tapper seperately, i need to buy complete flap set!!. -
How long do clutch cables last? (polo) 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I know it will depend upon its use, but what do you think? The one on my '93 Polo is the original, and has covered a respectable distance of over 106000, but my dad thinks that the pedal is heavy. This is hard for me to verify, because I use the car all the time. I thought it might be worthwhile changing, as a 'just in case' kinda thing, because the last thing I want is for it to snap. -
The quality of road repairs 12 May 2005 (Forum)
Perhaps someone in the biz can throw some light on the following. It seems to me that you very rarely encounter road repairs -- pot-hole patches, larger trench coverings, larger patches -- that are flush with the road surface. Hence, every journey is punctuated at random by lumps and bumps, no matter how good your car's ride is. Is this: * A British problem alone? -
Adding a passenger Airbag to a Focus? 4 May 2004 (Forum)
The dealer confirmed that it had the \"delete passenger side airbag\" option fitted - and then told me it was impossible to have one retro fitted. Question is - is that really true? Surely its a matter of fitting the bag/cover and replacing the sensor unit in the centre console with one for 2 bags rather than one. Comments much appreciated as its the only thing thats putting us off buying the car as safety is important to us. -
Which engined A4 (choice of 2) 13 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I have now decided to get SWMBO the A4 Avant that she has been eyeing up for some time (chiefly because used V40s and Golf Estates are the sme sort of price) and think that I have narrowed it down to 2: P reg 1.9tdi (110 bhp) 60k miles £7.5k S reg 1.8 SE 47k miles £8.5k The diesel being £1k cheaper might swing it for me but would appreciate any thoughts that the BR might have. Mileage that will be covered will not be huge and I anticipate keeping the car for quite/very long time. -
Why would Lay-by's be closed? 9 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Last night, driving home down the A3(M) I noticed that all (apart from one which is set back from the road near butser hill) the lay-by's were coned off both north and south, over 15 miles plus. The signs were covered over with black bags and tape and a higher than normal police presence was apparent (two cars travelling down the A3, and a collection around the bottom of the M275) Is this due to the Arms fair in London or may be a visiting digitary? -
MOT emissions query 26 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Comparing the emissions figures with last year, I see that it's taking a turn for the worse (2002 figures in brackets) Fast Idle Test CO - 0.18% (0.02%) HC - 49 ppm (25ppm vol) Lambda - 1.01 (1.000) Natural Idle Test CO - 0.03 (0.01) Is there anything I can read into this? Imminent catastrophe? Or is it just a "wear and tear" thing? The car had just been on a 90 mile motorway journey immediately prior to being dropped off today, and has covered 19,500 miles since last year. -
Peugeot 306 HDI handbook 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Just acquired a T-reg (1999) Peugeot 306 Estate with the HDI engine. Went to Halfords to buy a technical handbook, but the Haynes one, which claims to cover all models of the 306 up to T/1999 does NOT include the HDI engine. As you'd expect, the owner's handbook is sparse, to say the least. I shall feel a bit insecure without any know-how when I take the car abroad soon. -
VW Headlamp/Switch 16 Nov 2001 (Forum)
VW do not accept any responsibility despite a recall in Sept 97 for the wiring loom (which was done prior to us buying the car). The most recent switch to burn out did so within 12 months of the previous one which had been replaced under warranty so VW say the replacement is not covered by the warranty and we must pay for it.
