  • Dipstick Of The Day 27 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I switched my rear fog light on, hoping he/she would get the message. After about ten minutes, foglights go off, leaving said Peugeot with only sidelights. Then, a couple of minutes later, foglights come back on. I think the driver of this car deserves the "Dipstick of the Day" award......unless you know better! Andy

  • Lubrication for cabriolet hood mechanism 13 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I'm about to have my hood mechanism repaired thanks to a seized joint. I have been told that the mechanism should be maintainace free. The car is a Peugeot 306 Cabriolet. However I want to use a good lubricant that will prevent anymore damage to the hood mechanism. However I don't know what lubricant I should use here. WD40 comes to mind. Any ideas anyone?
  • Increased consumption 4 May 2003 (Forum)
Over the past 3 months or so my car\'s fuel consumption has increased markedly. Average consumption used to be in the high fifties. Now it\'s about 50 mpg. The car is a Peugeot diesel (mileage 204,000) I can\'t detect a leak & my driving pattern hasn\'t altered. I suspect it\'s a symptom of a greater malaise,I\'m just not sure what though. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  • 306 Meridian Spec 25 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Just a quick question. Have recently bought a 1998 Peugeot 306 1.6 Meridian and was wondering if anyone knew if it had ABS fitted as standard. Have tried looking for a site with a full spec but can't find one...can anyone help? Cheers, P.S. I did try an emergency brake and the car did brake without any squeal so thought it did have ABS...but the discs/pads were changed recently so not necessarily true.
  • 306 Central locking 9 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have a 306 with which the key fob does not remote lock the car. I have replaced the battery and it still does not. After a trip to a peugeot garage today i was told it was not the key but another reason. he could not tell me what reason but suggested they would have to take out and change the control, sensor box. I have no idea what he is talking about or how much it could cost.
  • new car for 10-12k any ideas 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Hi guys have 10-12k to spend on a 5 door /saloon hatchback 2-3 years old. What do you recommend? must be very reliable - so no ford, vauxhall, peugeot, renault. Must seat 4/5 manual. Running costs should be reasonable in motoring terms. I was personally thinking of newer shape VW Passat TDI...any suggestions or Volvo S60. Thanks.
  • Starter Motors? 14 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Is there any way of knowing whether a Peugeot 309 starter motor from the scrapyard will fit on a Talbot Horizon 1987 1.3? The local shop has a brand one in stock for £50 but I wondered whether its worth taking a trip to the scrappers? I've been advised that even if they look similar on the outside, the "teeth" may not be the same internally so you just can't tell until you try it - anyone have any further ideas on this?
  • Fog light use 4 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Not scientific but I have a daily 120 mile round trip mostly motorway. Interestingly, Renaults & Peugeots made up over 60% of the cars I saw during that time with their fog lights on when it clearly wasn't necessary. Made me wonder if the dashboard "fog lights on" indication on these cars is a problem.
  • Alloy Wheels 29 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Walking to my car this evening I saw three cars in the space of about 50 yards wearing what I must describe as hideous alloy wheels. They weren't bangers either - a BMW, a VW, and a Peugeot all less than 3 years old. So, apart from some dubious points about taste and some strange aesthetics, what is the point of these things? I would gladly save a few hundred for some plain covers to steel wheels.

  • Citroen 21 Jan 2002 (Forum)
A Colleague plans to buy an MPV and, because of the ride and suspension qualities of his old BX Citroen, he is considerting either the Citroen Synergye or the Picasso. The Synergye (I think) shares it's body design with Peugeot (806) and the Fiat Ulysse so, does the Synergye still have Citroen's renowned and unique suspension system and, is it adjustable, ie, for height as the BX was ? Also, does the Picasso have the traditional Citroen suspension ?
  • Latest crash tests published 29 Nov 2001 (Forum)
FYI: Latest set of crash tests have been published on following cars: BMW 3 Series, Citroen C5, Mondeo, Hyundi Elantra, 406, Octavia, Volvo S60, Honda Stream, Alfa 147, Peugeot 307, Rover 25. Details of these, and previous tests are on www.euroncap.com. They make interesting (and sobering) reading... (Look at the test results in detail, you'll see the star ratings seem to cover a wide range of performance.)
  • Citroen withdrawal symptoms 27 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Since I have been driving a turbo diesel again (Peugeot 406), my mind must have subconsciously defaulted to 1995-98 when I had a Citroen BX TZD. Several mornings I have found myself waiting on the drive with the engine idling for that sensation of the suspension rising up!
  • 205 GTI 29 Dec 2000 (Forum)
My 205 GTI runs really eratically on tickover, I understand that this is caused by the fly wheel which on the 1.6's is actually too small, and this worsens as the car ages, Peugeot corrected this problem on the 1.9's with a larger fly wheel. The only thing I have heard of to smooth out tickover is an ecotec valve, which I can get hold of, but is there nothing else to be done?
