  • New Shape A3 Electrics 27 Nov 2003 (Forum)
ve just had my 2 week old Audi A3 taken by the RAC to my Audi dealer with non-functioning wipers (very entertaining on the M5 today in torrential rain). Upon explaining the problem to reception they asked me to park it next to the other two A3?s with the same problem which have been awaiting parts for 2 weeks or more ?The RAC guy was quite familiar with the new A3 having been called out to a few with electrical problems but in the other cases he was able to cure by resetting the system.
  • Tailgate Gas Struts - Toyota Corolla 13 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I had a Cavalier before, and that \'ate\' gas struts too. I think I\'m \'gentle\' on the struts, never slamming the tailgate when it\'s cold etc. They have all been made by Stabilus of Germany - who supply most of the motor manufacturers. Any ideas?
  • Heathrow to Gatwick? Best way? 12 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Or should he take a tube into London, and then a train south to gatwick? Again, what's the cost? Or is there a direct train service? Given the poor lad hasn't been out of S Africa before, I want to give him foolproof advise. Can anybody help?
  • Urgent. Escort help please! 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Hi, Does anyone know the reason for the following or if not point me in the right direction of a forum/BBS that could help: early 90\'s Escort Diesel 1.8 non turbo Heater cold - tried flushing cooling system thoroughly including flushing the heater matrix directly. New thermostat. Still cold However every now and then (before and after the above) the heater would come back to life and go back to normal, the following day - back to cold.
  • Amatuer Servicing Question Lander&PugTD 18 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Any ideas how to get it off without breaking it please ?? Secondly, after putting any old kind of Turbo Diesel oil in my Pug 405TD (1995 model) and it\'s now done 120K. Are there any benefits to putting Valvoline turbo diesel and Slick50 in it ? I intend to do a few more miles in it yet and it gets a good all round drive most of the year at various speeds etc.
  • Mystery car 1 Sep 2003 (Forum)
A friend mentioned a car he saw yesterday, and I can't think for the life of me what it might be. Small, boxy little rag top which he reckoned looked 60's but was on a '91 'H' plate (possible late import?). Shape reminded him slightly of the Daf variomatic, but he's convinced it was either a Pug or a Renault? Also had a 'sport' badge on it somewhere apparently Any ideas guys?
  • If you have kids, look at this 17 Aug 2003 (Forum)
You should use high quality paper and ink, but if you don't you can glue the shapes to card and paint over the colours. I blame BL/ Triumph for this. They did a cardboard cutout of the Triumph Acclaim in the 80's and I was hooked. Thanks for putting up with me.
  • 200SX or 328 Sport 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
After much deliberation, I've finally managed to whittle down the wishlist of motors to two possibles...a Nissan 200SX or a BMW 328 Sport. It looks like I'll get more motor for my £££s with the 200, but I'll also lose more (probably) when I sell it as the 328 Sport seems to hold its value really well. I've driven both of them and there doesn't seem to be too much difference, although the 200 does tend to fishtail in the wet :p They both seem to be generally reliable if maintained, but the BM's M52 problem is a bit of a worry.

  • VW Passat 1.9 TD 10 Jun 2003 (Forum)
hi to everyone, Have just recently purchased (tues just gone) a VW Passat 1.9 TD S TDI 115 bhp Automatic Tiptronic (W reg) can anyone shed some light on these cars as to its good or bad points that I should be on the lookout for.... You maybe aware from one of my previous posts that we had a Omega 2.5 TD auto and a petrol laguna auto, but the Missus just could not get on with the omega, so we sold both cars, as I wanted an Auto/Diesel and my wish has come true.
  • Flat Rate 29 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Watching BBC2's Wrong Car, Right Car Dominic is often seen hammering his calculator in order to calculate the amount in monthly repayments the punter will have to pay based on the dealer's quoted interest rate. Plus they always talk about the 'flat rate' of interest.
  • Unlawful killing... 28 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Unfortunately Dave had to remove that thread last night. Despite my warnings and despite Dave\'s deletions the night before, various people still felt it was really cool and fun to get all abusive and insulting, clearly being incapable of reasoned debate. We have better things to do with our time then to pull apart a thread one by one trying to separate the idiots from the sensible people.
  • Convertible Roof Repairs 11 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I own a 1972 Peugeot 504 convertible, with a torn roof. It\'s about 5 inches long, (the tear not the roof), just above the drivers door. I can\'t imagine what a new convertible roof costs, I do know I couldn\'t afford it. Does anyone know a good way to repair these?
  • Europe's worst drivers 15 Feb 2003 (Forum)
That included two bikers who deliberately put themselves in clear & present danger for the sake of saving 0.5 seconds on their journey. Funnily enough, and with apologies to John S and pugugly, most of the really bad overseas examples were in BMWs, but we've been there before. So: This house proposes the motion that on average the worst drivers in Europe are: The British. (closely followed by the Italians, but for different reasons) Discuss/

  • Peugeot Classics 4 Nov 2002 (Forum)
It's easy to do this with the Mini or the Ford T-Bird because it's easy to see what made them great - I can't see the point in designing something and nobody knowing what it is! Which classic (pre-70's) Peugeot designs stand out to you lot?? Any help will be much appreciated! Jamie
  • 306 Driveshafts 26 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Even with the weight of the car on them, I seem to be able to move the shaft in and out by a few mm. (Lefthand N/S shaft). Is this normal, or could I have inadvertantly damaged the shaft by replacing the shocks? There was no movement before I did the work! There seems to be some noise coming from this area, but it sounds more like a wheelbearing hum, but as soon as the weight comes off that side, eg going around lefthand corners, it quietens down.

  • Moving to Spain 23 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I have a V-reg Focus tdi Zetec (rhd of course), with 34k, high spec (side bags, ABS, aircon, metallic etc). I paid £12k, from Belgium & have lavished much TLC (& £'s) on it. I love it, apart from its excessive thirst (for an oil-burner). I'd appreciate expert advice on whether it would be sensible to try to sell it, & buy a lhd Seat there? My usual practice these days has been to buy new(or nearly) then keep it until it starts to cost serious Euros (!)
  • GEARBOX THRASH ON FIESTA 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I own a Fiesta Zetec S which is 2 months old and has now covered 1500 miles. When the clutch is not depressed the engine is noisy, however when the clutch is depressed the engine noise is minimal. During the 1500 mile complimentary check I mentioned this fault to the mechanc.
