  Since I bought my 1.4 TDI PD VW Polo in 2002 (yes I know its old but its only done 17,000 miles) I have changed the engine oil every year using the recommended 5w40 semi synthetic 505.01 oil (Millers). I have always bought  a 5 litre container of oil but the engine only needs about 4 litres

  If my car has only done about 2k - 3.5k miles after 1 year should the oil be changed or can I leave it for say an extra 3 months? I would normally change at around 9 months if I'm doing an average mileage. I do short trips (not in stop start traffic) and every few months do a 500 mile return trip
