Changing gearbox oil - any point? 21 Nov 2016 (Forum)
This never seems to appear in the maintenance schedules, but I was just wondering if, after 120,000 miles, it might be worth dropping the gearbox oil out... -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Early Oil changes 13 Jul 2009 (Forum)
If my car has only done about 2k - 3.5k miles after 1 year should the oil be changed or can I leave it for say an extra 3 months? I would normally change at around 9 months if I'm doing an average mileage. I do short trips (not in stop start traffic) and every few months do a 500 mile return trip. -
Dusty engine? oil change 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
HI I have just taken delivery of a 'new' beetle 1,8 t. The car had been standing for almost a year on a car lot. I have had the coil packs changed ( recall)and at the same time noticed that the entire engine was covered with about 1/4 inch of fine dust..I just wonder where it had been stored!!!. Although it only has 500 miles on it in view of its age and the dust would it be worth an oil change/filter now...also the air filter at the same time I have blown off most of the dust with an air line and the bug is looking great! -

VW Caravelle T4 2.4 diesel, the problem we have is the oil warning light and alarm keeps coming on, we have changed oil pressure switches and it still did it, we changed oil and filters and flushed the engine and this cured it for 1500 miles and it started doing it again, the oil is full and the van drives well no knocks or noises any one got any other ideas to the problem the alarm is driving us mad. -
Oil Type - Corsa 1.4 (04) 19 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My daughter has a 1.4 Corsa (04 Reg) and I am about to start the suggested 6 month oil change regime suggested on here. Vauxhall can do the annual services and I will do intermediate changes for her. On looking in the book it lists 10W-30 or 10W-40 and ACEA A3. What is a reasonably priced oil for this - the car does 3-4k per year - yes I know she was crazy buying a new car but it was her decision. -
Any vehicle-engine flush or not? 25 May 2004 (Forum)
I havnt flushed my engine out during oil change since I read somewhere that flushing engines out with high mileage can remove hardened bits of crud, which otherwise wouldnt move, which can in turn cause blockages and problems in your engine, but Ive noticed that not doing it during oil change makes the oil turn black a lot quicker after oil change.I have 102k on my VWGolf,is there any risk in flushing an engine with this kind of mileage? -

Honda Jazz 1.4 Ivtec 63 model - Oil Change Spec 1 Sep 2020 (Forum)
My sisters car - Honda Jazz 1.4 ivtec 63 plate requires an oil change. The car manual supplied by Honda states that we can use 0w20, 0w30 and 5w30. Quite a wide range. What should we use? I think Honda dealers use 0w20 but that's probably because all new models use it and its save them time, money and hassle to store different grades. -
Citroen - Oil change deals 8 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know who is doing deals on oil changes at the moment? Now before anyone jumps in and says do it yourself, yes,I am capable of doing so,and have done many times in the past, but I want to get my book stamped on my Berlingo van, hence the question. -

Oil Life (hic) again 27 Nov 2003 (Forum)
As we all know, honest john repeatedly advises that no engine oil can stay in grade beyod 7500 miles. Hence, many of us routinely change oils frequently and achieve high milages. However, car manufacturers say that the oil manufacturers now produce oils that meet their requirements for extended intervals such as 18,000 and 30,000 miles etc. -
SAAB 9-3 - Performance Oil Filters - K&N vs Mann 26 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Having recently moved into Saab ownership (9-3 Aero, 2007, with Maptun st1 tune), I have taken HJs advice about the oil feed to the cam chain requiring frequent oil changes to heart and have performed 3 changes with flush in the 10k I've done in it so far. At the last change I decided to go for a K&N oil filter (previously using Motaquip). -
03 Audi A4 Avant 1.9 TDi 100 AVB - Short Term Oil Change 5w30 or 5w40 VAG PD 22 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Coming up to oil change time again, but this time a little confused as to which oil to use. I have read that if doing a short term change (Every 7k/yearly in my case) its better to use 5w40, rather that the more expensive 5w30 longlife stuff. -
BMW 5 Series E60 - BMW e60 520d auto gearbox problem 7 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hi everyone - I have a problem with my e60 80k miles (since around 70k miles) . Changing from 2nd->3rd kicks very badly, especially in stop start traffic.. you can reproduce it in manual mode.. The BMW dealers reckon they want to do two gearbox oil changes to see if it will fix it.. despite it being "sealed for life" .. and my understanding that two oil changes are only to clear out contaminants.. and the onyl contaminants I can think of will be shards of the gears themselves! -
5W30 or 0W40? 12 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Re: Ford Fiesta 1.3 EFI (Endura) I am going to get an oil change in a couple of hours, but the people at Kwik Fit have thrown me. My problem is as follows: When I had my "Major" service at Ford last June, they did an oil change an used 5W30. Ever since then I have changed my own oil every 10k miles with Castrol Magnetec 5W30. -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 97 2.8 Oil change at National - 5W30 or 10w40? 29 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Just checked my oil and its looking a bit black, so I looked at National Tyres website for a oil & filter change. £30 for up to 7l of oil. They recommend 5W40 Castol Edge Fully Synthetic, but I usually use 10W40 semi-synth. -
Soot in the oil - via the EGR valve your views? 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
http://www.oilrag.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/engine.jpg Yesterday did all the gaskets on the top cover to stop a slight oil leak - also blocked off the EGR valve with a gasket cut from a Gunk can. (more on that later) Then ran it down to Meadowhall and back and changed the oil and filter - using Shell Rimula R4. I`ve normally done 3,000 oil changes (filthy old IDI engine) which are half service interval and the cams and cambox were clean (black oil accepted) no sludge or cam surface wear, at 56,000 miles It`s occurred to me that with the EGR system no longer loading the oil with soot from the exhaust - that I might let the engine run to 5,000 miles or so on the oil.
