  • Second hand market doing really well?? 22 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Because of covid, less new cars have been sold, leading to a shortage of used vehicles, increasing prices. Not even a hint of admitting that finance companies are struggling to process defaults on payments. Well, that giant car park is not fake news and I’m sure it’s not the only one of its kind. Why the big fat lies and the artificially inflated prices?
  • Car Ownership - Help Make It More Affordable 6 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Hi all,   I'm exploring an idea to provide a new form of car ownership. I believe that car finance for instance, should be a lot simpler and better for car buyers, and I'm looking to change that.   I'm in the process of testing out a few of my assumptions and hoping I could get your opinions through a quick 6-8 minute survey:  https://helpmobyl.typeform.com/to/CZJdrl   There's an opportunity to win a £20 Amazon voucher for those who are feeling inspired!

  • Shoppers flood back after vandals smash pay & dis 18 Jul 2015 (Forum)
A good news story... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/11743186/Shoppers-flood-back-to-town-centre-after-vandals-smash-up-pay-and-display-machines.html Everyone with some common sense would realise that parking gouging charges are killing town centres and the uk economy on general - all except petty councils of course who are desperate to protect their empires, pensions etc.
  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W204 (2007 -) - Blue Efficiency Injector issues? 14 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Guys, I've just ordered a Merc 250CDI as a company car but my finance manager has held back the order as we have a 220CDI Blue Efficiency on our fleet that has been having a lot of issues with its injectors (replaced twice in just a few months). Does anybody know if the Blue Efficiency engines have an inherent injector issue or if the other car on our fleet was just a 'Friday' car?
  • Dynamic - Selling Fiat Panda 1.2 22 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I have had to sell my car due to a family split, the ex has left me some debt and my credit rating has dropped through the floor so cannot get finance. However, I do have the above car to use, but I want to get rid of it for a sexier model. My old car was a Peugeot. I would love to part ex this car (fiat) for a new car with not too much mileage which is not very old.
  • Mazda 2 - Changing car early 19 May 2011 (Forum)
I have spoken to a couple of dealers with regard to changing my current car for which the finance deal runs out in September. Both have suggested that there would be savings to be had if I changed before September. Having a new reg car on September 1st doesn't bother me but I would only be interested in changing early if there are savings to be had.
  • 20mph limits & gritting 12 Nov 2009 (Forum)
In my own street, it would be difficult to reach 15mph but they still went ahead with the signage, markings etc. However I have just read a report in my local paper re the Council's finances and there is a tiny comment under proposed savings that implies a saving of over £200k for not having to grit 20mph limit roads. Am I smelling a big rat here? Are there legal rules of what roads needs to be gritted and what doesn't?
  • Things your dad did 28 Oct 2008 (Forum)
He had a pair of dials, one for oil pressure and one for battery voltage (I think), mounted on a piece of wood-effect melamine. He transferred it from car to car, even when he couldn't afford (or wasn't allowed by the Finance Controller) to have the meters connected. Was reminded of the dials when given a lift yesterday in a Hyundai Coupé. (Note to self: Alt-130.)
  • New car suggestions 17 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I do not have a huge sum of cash - around £750 - £1k - to spend on a car to last around for a year or so when the missus goes back to work and we can afford to purchase a car on finance. What should we be looking at? It must be a 5 door, ideally an estate, and be a petrol car. Preferably not mega high mileage. Thanks
  • BMW Dealers dream 7 May 2006 (Forum)
Turns out she happily accepted £2500 for her 51 reg Pug 307 lx, paid full list price for the BMW and readily accepted the high APR rate on the finance deal. I just smiled and said well done. I didn't have the heart to tell her she had been!
  • Cheapest Way for New Traders to HPi 28 May 2005 (Forum)
I see that Car Watch carries out a check for £29.95 which is £10 cheaper than HPi and presumably this service accesses the same database but does anyone know of any cheaper services that ensure the car is not on finance/stolen/written off etc?
  • Want To Improve My Car? 21 May 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest what else i can do to impove the look and mechanics of the car, with limited knowledge and finance? Thinking of getting the engine bay steam cleaned and putting some redex fuel treatment in to clean some of the gum and carbon deposits in the system. Would appreciate any ideas?
  • Spanish Motoring Costs Pt II 24 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Only problem HJ's advice S(sell here & buy there), is the small one of financing, on a meagre pension, the shortfall between a new Focus/Seat/etc & a nearly (by then) 3yo 'Belgian' Focus :-( If I do sell & buy, I'll have to trade-down - any recommendations, bearing in mind the likely value of the Focus - well cared-for, but f. high mileage(16k/yr)?
  • Toyota RAV4 - New Car - Swirl Marks 8 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Whether it's the dealer or the finance company, start with rejection -you can always compromise down to repair and partial refund if you wish.
  • Have I placed an order? Am I liable? 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I told the guy that I needed a vehicle ASAP. In the meantime the other company got back to me and after discussing some finance options with them they suggested going for a finance lease which gave me a bit more flexibility of perhaps buying at the end or selling it midway through the contract if needed. This sounded a good deal and after speaking with my accountant I asked this company to check stock.
  • The Car Buying Experience 24 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Still interested in the later Primera, whilst looking at the cars on the forecourt at the same garage, i was approached by a salesman who was only interested in how I was going to finance ny new car. When I told him I wasn't ready to discuss finance, he told me to go away and stop wasting his time. That was 2 years ago when I changed the Bora for a Skoda. 2 years. Amazing to think the local VW dealer hasn't has any more Bora TDI 130's in in two years, or the Honda dealer any more Civic VTEC's, because they both promised to let me know, and I'm still waiting for the call And if you thought things at the 'bottom end' of the market were any better, think again.
  • New wheels for a gigging musician? 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
All this seems to me to point to one of the sales rep type of cars you see lots of, and probably one of the ones which is considered uncool, so that it's a bit cheaper. Then, if she finds a type of car that suits, how to finance it? Is leasing a viable option for a self-employed individual, or is it better to try to buy it on a finance deal? There seem to dozens of difft types of financing available, but it needs to be one which doesnt need a big deposit.
  • Looking for a new car suitable for 3 kids 7 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I currently drive a 2015 Renault Clio which I bought used in 2017, and it was fine for when we were a family of 4 (2 kids), but now we have a 3rd on the way and the Clio is way too cramped I’m going to admit I know very little about cars, so all I can say really is that I’d like a nice spacious 5 seater car for about 10k (used, on finance). The C4 Cactus has caught my eye, especially with the panoramic roof. Any recommendations? :)
  • PCP Mis-Selling... 15 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Undoubtedly some PCP will have been mis-sold, like just about everything at some point but the risk to the industry and economy is noteable as the cost of claims will be passed on to future customers so finance rates across all products will rise. Having said that if anyone has any questions I'll try to help, with clear impartial advice, as always.
