  • Storing fuel injectors 7 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I have just had a Saab performance upgrade kit fitted to my 2.0 Saab 9-5 which consists of a new ECU plus a set of different fuel injectors. I plan on keeping the old ECU and injectors in case I decide to migrate back to the original setup (e.g. on change of car). My question is, what is the best way to store the injectors to avoid any problems when they are refitted (if ever)?
  • Focus - which engine? 16 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I am thinking of biting the bullet and spending more than I normally would on my next car, probably a Ford Focus between 2-3 years old. Can any present owners comment on the performance of their current model? I am looking for performance over mpg so I have ruled out the 1.4 or 1.8 diesel (yes I know the new diesel is a star but only fitted recently and out of my price range).
  • Vectra 30 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Saw my 1st new Vectra in the flesh, wow - what a boring looking car (with a natty chrome bit at the back). Personally I don't think the Astra looks too bad, but this is just a stretched version which looks out of proportions, badly styled headlights... Taking it a but further don't you think that the new Saab 9-3 (now only going to be a saloon, which IMHO is a bad move on GMs part) looks a bit like the old Vectra?
  • naff naff 8 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Glancing through some old postings here, I see that someone mentioned naff motors. Until recently I thought the worst was the set of leopardskin seat covers I saw years ago on a Beverley Sisters' car. But one of my neighbours has the reg A 15 OPV, which has been tortured so as to appear as ALSOP V.
  • Big miler Saab 9-5 27 Feb 2002 (Forum)
It has a computer print out with a full service history from Saab leasing. I have seen it and driven it. For a 3 and a half year old car it seems a good deal. Should I be worried about the mileage, blown turbos and knackered cats or hope it goes to 200,00 with no problems? Would you get an AA check? Your informed thoughts please
  • Vauxhall Carlton 21 Jan 2002 (Forum)
This problem has baffled the AA and various mechanics, who have suggested crankshaft sensor, ECU or even alternator. The AA even suggested the aerials at Heathrow !! ( I was at the car park that time ! ) Anybody experienced this before ? Help !!! Nick

  • Replacement audio in Astra 16 Aug 2001 (Forum)
My son wants to replace the radio/single CD audio unit (Delco ) with a Kenwood Radio/Cassette unit (that came from his old car) which will also control a multi changer CD player unit . What will happen to the current display screen (time/temperature and radio tuning info) if the system is changed? Will the current wiring loom plug into the new unit requiring only the multi-changer to be mounted in the boot(or wherever) and the cable connected to it and the dashboard unit?
  • Peugeot 206 parts - URGENT 1 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Peugeot main dealer will only sell her both sets of runners and crossmember for £107. Only one of the runners has failed - metal stop has disintegrated (slightly worrying on a 2 year old car methinks). As usual any advice given will be gratefully received. Thanks
  • Independent Honda Specialist 18 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I am looking for an independent Honda specialist to service my 1992 non-import 2.3 prelude. As the car is old I do not see any point continuing with a Honda main dealer service history anymore. However, the cam belts are due for a change and I would only want to take it to someone who knows what they are doing.
  • diesel price 17 Jan 2001 (Forum)
i know it is the old issue but why the price of diesel is 4 or 5 pence more than unleaded. i have 2 diesel cars and i think any advantage of being better efficiency is wiped out by the difference in prices; acceleration hard to achieve similar petrol performance at junctions will cost further.
  • Most reliable - Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda? 8 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm looking to purchase a car. It will be around 5 years old (as they're about £5-6k and that's all the budget will allow for). I'm not looking for anything fancy but I am looking for the most reliable car. A car that will keep going and going.
  • Buying? a car in Jersey. 23 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Existing heap has been delayed in going to the scrapyard by Dads TLC. First thoughts are to fly or float there. Buy a secondhand fairly recent car. Insure it. A 25year old professional has never insured in own right but driven several years intermittently on my insurance. Use car for six months. Import it to UK? Or sell it? Has anyone any experience, tips, pros and cons of the above.
  • Import Myth... 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
And flowers. I bought it. Take the same car the UK VW dealer for servicing and all I get is ye olde 'it will be worth less when you sell it' spiel. Well, I just sold the car for £7850. So after 4 years the car kept 55% of its original value.
  • Nissan Qashqai - New car suggestions? Any mananufucturer considered 15 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Smaller in length to Qashqai. Car is 10 years old with high mileage so time to change. We have two small terriers and love driving to Lake District and Scotland  but need good economy and reliability. Also we drive up pot hole farm tracks to do dog walks but don’t want a 4x4 .
  • Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 2005 1.3 Clutch grinding 21 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I also hear a similar noise when trying to accelerate at low speed. I thought this was a clutch problem but I have a tendency (due to my old car being high geared) to change gear too early, thus possibly labouring the car. Could changing gears too early be the cause? I have just driven the car, taking longer to change gears, and it was fine.
  • Buying a second hand car with tow bar fitted 22 Nov 2018 (Forum)
I am just about to look for a second hand car 3 to 5 years old - probably a Toyota Avensis Estate 2.0D4D diesel.  Would buying a car with a tow bar already fitted be a no-no for people, or just another variable to take into account?
  • Hyundai i40 - Hyundai i40 Clutch Problems 5 Jul 2017 (Forum)
My last post on this was in February 2015 when a modification was made to this as I had been having problems. I have learned since then, that the clutch can be an issue with this car. All has been well since my last post, until last week when this failed completely. The car was only serviced the week previous to this at 80,000 miles, most of which has been motorway driving. The car will be three years old next February.
  • Peugeot 206 - Car whining on accelerating 13 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I have an issue I think may be related to either power steering or timing belt pulleys. I just got this old car from my sister and the noise is makes is whiney/whirry and gets more high pitched the more I accelerate. I've been told by a mechanic the power steering and wheel bearings also may need replaced soon but sounds like this car needs help now!
  • Audi TT - Selling a car privately taking off private plates 25 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Ideally I would like to be able to hand the car over to the new owner next week with the old plates on it, I'm hoping I can just pop into my local DVLA office and they will sort it there and then without having to wait for paperwork to be sent back to me and delaying the sale.
