  • BMW X1 - X-drive 2012 - BMW automatic gearbox problem 12 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Whilst recently parking I reversed to better align the car and came to a sudden halt. I thought I had hit something, but had not. The gearbox was stuck in reverse; I was unable to select neutral or any other gear. After waiting about an hour for rescue (engine off) I thought I would check again  - and the problem had disappeared.
  • Mercedes E350 - Warranty Advice 11 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Hi all, I hope someone can clear this up for me. I took my 2013 E350 Coupe for a new back tyre last week and was informed the front wheel alignment was out. I checked with Mercedes as the car is still under warranty and thought I'd be able to pull a fast one......no luck, however after quoting me £230 plus vat I informed them kwik fit quoted a maximum of £130 all in.
  • Civic Type R 2009 - Ceased Calliper 1 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Serviced and MOT was end February 2016. 10 days later on motorway heard helicopter noise and violent shaking. Took it straight back to Honda who assured me it was miss aligned wheel and thrown weight. A week later same thing happened again. Took it straight to Honda who now say calliper is ceased and they want to charge me full amount. Surely as they missed this at two different times and could have caused a severe accident is this really down to me to pay full cost?
  • Honda CR-V 2013 - Tyre pressure warning light illuminated 19 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I've just had new winter tyres fitted on the origonal alloy wheels of my CTRV. I was advised that the tracking was incorrect so I had a 4 wheel laser check to correct the alignment. On the first straight road after the fitting the "check tyre pressures" warning light illuminated. The tyre pressures were correct, the garage reset the warning from the drivers seat. Is it normal that tyre changes trigger the warning system.
  • VW Golf Mk6 - Tyre wear problem 17 Sep 2012 (Forum)
The guy at the depot said quite a number of cars have enough negative camber to cause premature wear. However, the alignment report shows that the rear wheels have about twice the camber of the front but are wearing evenly across the tread. So 'go figure' as the Yanks say. Does this happen to other vehicles / owners ?
  • Renault Megane CC (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.9TDi Uneven Rear Tyre Wear 22 Jul 2008 (Forum)
    The rear tyres are wearing to smooth on the outside and still have 3 to 4mm of tread depth on the inside. The renault dealership don't appear to accept a fault in design. I have had a 4 wheel alignment (computerised) check done by a reputable tyre company and all wheels are within the manufacturers stated tollerances. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? {volume level in header lowered}
  • Squeaky Focus 21 Jan 2004 (Forum)
However a reliable mechanic has checked/cleaned all the pulleys and tensioners etc and gave them a clean bill of health, but also told me that this was a known problem with Fords and the air conditioning pump may need re-aligning. Has anyone else heard of this, or know what it involved? Frankly I don't think much of this car if every fanblet change requires all the associated equipment to be 'tuned'!! Its an '02 Focus 1.8TDi by the way
  • Renault Clio alternator 1 Oct 2002 (Forum)
A Renault service bulletin states that if the belt is shredded then a new alternator has to be fitted. When asked why a new alternator is needed the only answer I get is, "the alternator is miss aligned". Renault are prepared to pay %40 of the cost of the part. As the car is only 2 1/2 years old and it has only done 15000 miles I feel a little miffed. Has any one else had similar problems the car has a 1400cc 16v engine and was registered in 2000 Hwyl
  • MOT Test Insurance 2 Jul 2001 (Forum)
The limits/exclusions are: £750 per claim, less first £10 Must be taken out 3 months before test 8 years/75,000 miles Cost of test/re-test Windscreen, headlamp alignment, exhaust, CAT, brake friction material and consumables Structural damage Fair wear and tear to items such as brake pads, tryres, clutch etc. There seems endless scope for argument about the "fair" and the "etc."
  • BMW 1 Series F20 - Steering wheel not centred should I fix? 5 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Hi Guys I’ve noticed my steering wheel isnt centred, it’s maybe off by 5 degrees of something nothing noticeably bad. However, I had the wheel and steering alignment checked and it was all straight, also had a mechanic look at the all the arms/ rods etc behind the wheels and they look fine. 1. Is this guaranteed to be a steering rack problem? If so, how expensive could this be to fix?
  • MINI Clubman - Abnormal tyre wear 25 May 2013 (Forum)
They were both worn abnormally on the inner wall and were the front offside and rear offside, the front being most worn. I've been told various likely causes - tracking, tyre pressure and alignment being some. The guy fitting the tyre said if it had been rubbing on anything, that would have been visible in the wheel arch and could see nothing. Has anyone had similar issues that may help shed some light?
  • LDV Cub (Nissan Vanette Cargo RWD) - Clutch Change, Easy? 28 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I was hoping I could disconnect propshaft, gearchange cables, speedo, slave cylinder and unbolt and slide out clutch. Align new clutch and reassemble. Feasible or over optimistic?! Any suggestions welcome. Many thanks, Stuart
  • Honda Civic - rubbing/vibrating brake pedal 27 Apr 2010 (Forum)
When I returned, there was a slight rubbing when using the brake that coud be felt through the pedal - almost like there was something stuck on the pad causing it to catch then work properly (much like on a bicycle when the rim is out of alignent). I tried braking hard a few times then normally and it seemed to subside. However, it's still there 3 months later. Brakes seem to work fine, I was wondering whether it could be a rust patch or maybe the pad was worn in one area or perhaps wheel balancing?
  • 'I'll speak to the service manager' but doesn't 6 Jun 2009 (Forum)
She then held the phone by her side for thirty seconds before getting back to the client with 'I've checked and we can give you a x% discount'. The customer readily accepted the offer. I work in the much aligned public sector - does the private sector always operate like this? if so it stinks.

  • Peugeot 106, Wheel Wobble or Vibration 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I am baffled with this, firstly got a problem with wheel wobble or vibration coming through the steering wheel, both wheels have been balanced twice, both drive shafts have been replaced, and wheel bearings have been replaced, both lower arms have been replaced, checked the shock absorbers and they are fine, i purposely pushed the car down on each side, and just bounces once and settles straight away, also the wheel alignment has been done, I am stuck with this, the weel wobble starts at between 50 and 60 mph any ideas anyone?? • volvo s60 t5 SE VERY camber sensitive!!! 11 May 2005 (Forum)
it maybe due to volvo not putting the sub-frame back on properly after a new gearbox was fitted????? volvo have tried laser aligning the wheels - that has helped alot - i have tried everthing - front wheels on back and vice versa, tyre pressures are fine, distance between rear and front wheels are equal. any ideas would be mostly appreciated, Thanks!!!!
  • '92 XJ6 headlamps 30 Dec 2002 (Forum)
We have read on the forum about brighter bulbs, but what other options are there? The headlamps pass the MoT alignment test but appear to point at the ground too much but the garage say they are correctly adjusted. Main beam is fine. It is getting to the point where we do not like driving at night on unlit roads - especially as everybody elses lamps seem to dazzle.
