  • Volkswagen Golf GT TDi IV Mk 4 - Rough Idle? 1 Jun 2012 (Forum)
It didn't help that at the time the car was running properly so he said he wasn't sure what's wrong. Could it be the fuel injectors being faulty? I always get fuel from Shell and thought they had good diesel. Please can someone give me some advice? Thank you.
  • Looking for a new (to me) car but with specifics! 27 May 2012 (Forum)
Firstly it needs discs and pads all round, 2 new tyres, airbag light needs resetting and the fault in the system repairing, fuel consumption has dropped from mid 50s to early 40s too? And last but not least the turbo is whistling louder than it used to! So I am thinking with that list of getting rid before it becomes a money pit having just spent a few hundred sorting the aircon out.
  • Any - Most reliable car/cheapest to run to high mileage? 4 Apr 2012 (Forum)
: Honda Civic, 1.8 vvti Seat/Skoda 1.4 TSI 120ps Think I need to get about 45mpg, which since petrol is cheaper means not much increase in fuel costs.....
  • Vauxhall Vectra C - Vectra C In Limp Mode 10 Feb 2012 (Forum)
The engine Management light came on and the car went into Limp Mode on my Vectra whilst I was driving it. I took it round to a garage who suspected I had filled up with bad fuel. They changed my Fuel Filter which made no difference. They then told me that my Inlet Manifold needed changing, which they did and it made no difference. They put it on the diagnostic machine which flagged up Crankshaft Sensor, but the garage told me my car doesnt have one?
  • Renault 2002 Laguna II Expression 2.0 5 speed - Engine power loss under load and/or miss at idle 24 Dec 2011 (Forum)
The software was updated and the car driven until the problem recurred but no relevant errors were found.  The agent then replaced the fuel pump - again with no improvement. The problem occurs with the fuel tank full, nearly empty and in between. The car has done around 66,000 km. If the agent keeps replacing parts, eventually I'll have a new car - but I'm hoping that there is a cheaper solution!
  • Volkswagen Bora 2004 pd 130 sport - Bora TDI PD 130 is a Fecker to start!!! 15 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Sometimes I would depress gas pedal once, and that had a 50% success rate, then wiggling the ignition key on start up also worked. Changes / replacements made include (all new)Glow Plugs / Fuel Filter 3 times / fuel Pump / 507.1 oil / Intercooler /Battery /crankshaft sensor / Shell diesel / clean inlet manifold / double check all seals / serviced reg... I generally do 90 miles of motorway driving a day, without a blip, averaging 50mpg overall.

  • vauxhall vectra c - hesitation and rough running 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I havent had the car that long so im sure of the exact maintenance record (no receipts) although the service book is fully stamped by independant gararges. The reason i say this is because i have feeling its a fuel problem and can find no evidance of the fuel filter ever being changed. Am i going down the wrong road? maybe something more sinister! :( Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2002 2.0 TDCi. Flashing glow plug Light 20 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Was driving home quite oblivious to the world when I lost acceleration for a couple of seconds and the Glow Plug Indicator Light (the orange coil that goes out wen its ok to turn the engine on) came on - its flashing just the once and it feels like I've lost the fuel injection ooooomph factor. Am I safe to drive home or should I call the AA out? I've looked up the meaning of this light in the owners guide but all it says is it could be Injector Pump Relay or Fuel Fired Heater but it doesn't say what to do if it comes on or which flashing rythm is which!
  • Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi - White/grey smoke on startup or after idling 15 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Since then I've done 400 miles and making sure only diesel is going in the tank ruling out the petrol theory, the car uses no oil or water and runs at the correct temperature. I've read that white/grey smoke is unburnt diesel, this would explain the poor fuel economy, the car has done 78000 miles and has a patchy service history. Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks in advance, John M.
  • Ford Transit (2001) - Transist 2.0TDDi running fault 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I have spoken to a diesel specialist and have been told that this sympton sounds like a bent con rod which i find hard to believe as surely for this to happen it must have to have valve to piston contact or it must of hydrauliced. Neither of these have happened. I have replaced the fuel filter and this has improved the the general performance of the van slightly but noth the missfire. I am now starting to think maybe the injectors are at fault and it is not getting enough fuel to 1/all cylinders Any help would be greatly appriciated as im no diesel expert.
  • VW Sharan SE 2001 - Engine Cuts off ! 6 Feb 2011 (Forum)
2nd check with the autoelec showed that all was clear and no faults found so i changed the air and fuel filters just in case of blockage but still the engine cuts out !  Fuel is passing thorough (checked it when filter was removed).  The engine does start but then stops automatically within 5 mins.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2000 1.8 16V - Fault code 0170. 3 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hi Folks; Well, after about 35K of largely trouble free motoring SWMBO's Zafira decided to play up and light the EML yesterday. Local mechanic read the codes, 0170 'fuel trim malfunction'. Having cleaned up the throttle valve body - 110K miles of gunk was cauisng unstable idle anyway - and reset the light it's currently behaving itself. However I'd like to know what the code really means?
  • Ford Focus - Impending fuel system problems 28 Jan 2011 (Forum)

  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 Non start Diesel 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
There are no warning lights on the dash while I'm cranking, the glow plug light comes on and goes off as before and plugs have been tested with a continuity meter and checks out fine and no unburnt fuel traces are eminating from the tailpipe, so I think this must be some kind of fuelling issue. I've drained the battery numerous times trying to get the car to start. Any help greatly appreciated!
  • VW mk2 Golf 1300 transistorized ignition - VW MK2 Golf chugs to a halt. 8 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The hesitant and chugging symptom was not really a spark plug misfiring as I removed a plug connector and the misfiring sound here was different. The fuel filter is fairly new and the fuel pump was replaced, this did not solve the problem. All ht leads appear in good condition.
  • America - Pollution 28 Jul 2010 (Forum)
now I do sympathise with the spill & it should never of happened & if it did a contingency plan should of been in place BUT the American goverment approved the drilling in the first place & they still allow then to run around in 5-10 ltr 4x4's by the million. Fuel was still very cheap & whilst out there we used an SUV ( Chevey 4x4) and it was 40 dollars to fill up froma quarter!on average, so about £30.00 !! so cheap & they moan about cost of fuel! we were paying between $2.67 & $3.65 per American gallon so at the most expensive about £2.50ish for around 4 ltrs.
  • ford focus 1.6 - all dials zero, no loss of power. 19 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Ive been to the local garage who pluggedd it into their machine and the only code it displayed was a fuel sensor code. Which meant that the tank was empty (this must be because it zero'd out.)  nothing else comes up on the diag machine. He's adament its the fuel sensor i dont think it is. not sure its the vss as there is no loss of power or any intermittent light.
  • Peugeot 306 1.9DT - 306 DT - will NOT start 15 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Currently car will not start at all, although it turns fine ont he starter motor,.  My guesses are Fuel pump, fuel injectors, immobilser, HGF (no sign of that),  favouring the latter as it really wont start, despite running fine up to that point. thanks in advance   Andy
  • Bmw x3 - DPF problems advice please 28 May 2010 (Forum)
From what i can gather and what i have read about the DPF on long, up to full temperature journeys the dpf regenerates itself. on shorter journeys it injects fuel into the engine to get hotter and that regenerates it. but it seems on mine the extra added fuel is just going into the engine and staying there. Im concerned firstly that the oil is diluted and secondly that i could end up blowing the engine up.
