Toot Toot !! 16 Jul 2017 (Forum)
On another occasion my car was at the second fuel pump, I was paying for petrol in the kiosk and the driver at the front pump, having paid, drove away. A young man in a BMW X5 500 drove by my old car into the front pump position and filled up. I never was able to afford a car so expensive, let alone one with so oversize an engine. Do the BRs think that the young man was a victim of the s/s salesmen ? -
Audi TT TDi - Private seller posing as trader; risky to a buyer? 2 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I've seen on Autotrader a blue TT cab with everything I've been looking for since I sold my BMW 1 Series cab recently. It's listed as a read sale but I've messaged the seller who is actually 'selling on behalf of a retired family member'. Am I being too cautious in thinking this sounds dodgy? -
Efficient choice? 8 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I've considered various hybrids but most seem to only do around 30 miles on the batteries and are then not particularly efficient. a BMW i3 (range extended) might work as the amount I think I'd save (compared to my recently departed 29mpg diesel) would cover the amount I'd have to borrow. I don't need 5 seats but don't want something too small for all the motor way driving. -
Mazda 3 auto - Which smaller car for my pensioner parents? 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Main considerations: MPV-style height if possible (my Dad has hip problems that mean getting into a low car can be painful for him), hatchback, it must be an auto, and a lower car tax bracket would be preferable but not essential. They've actually had some fairly snappy cars in the past (2.5L BMW and Golf V5) and while they're not looking at anything on that level now, I suspect that anything less than a 1.6L would probably be too sluggish, especially given that an auto box is a necessity. Budget is £8000. -

any - road trip - advice needed 9 Aug 2013 (Forum)
for the 24th, 25th and 26th , looking for a plan that would take in countryside no further north than Inverness , staying the eve of the 26th in Edinburgh , then drive down south on the 27th. We're driving a 2012 BMW X3 , looking for either a Holiday Inn express or a decent hotel each night. Any standout places to see and stay in ? Keen to catch bucolic scenes , opposite to our daily urban scenario. -
Citroen C5 Tourer - Upgrade to xenon lights? 6 Nov 2012 (Forum)
most of my friends and acquaintances laughed like drains when I said I was getting a C5, but I think the laugh is on them, particularly with the 3.0 HDi engine (I think from Peugeot, and the same engine that Jaguar use). It is quiet, refined, powerful, and seems to match in every respect the few BMW 5-series cars I've been out in - and I think the Tourer is a cracking looker too.) -

HJ - Daily Telegraph 14 Jan 15 Jan 2012 (Forum)
A couple of interesting comments today: 1. Cars getting bigger with every release in this case BMW 3 series. I agree entirely with the man who said if he wanted a 5 series he would have bought one. Anyone remember the size of the original Fiesta or Corsa compared with today's models? Why does anyone need enormous cars just to go to Tesco nowadays? -
Which Car - Golf, A3 or 1 Series 2 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I'm sure that various people have been in the same quandry with these cars, but the more I've researched, the more unsure i am. My main concern is reliability, with regard to the VW & Audi, not sure about the BMW I've read alot about issues with the diesel engine, and the consensus seems to be the 1.9 TDi is the better one to go for, is that right? Am i doomed if i go for the 2.0 tdi?? Should I make a financial allowance for getting potential problem sorted? -
4 x 4 / winter tyres or socks ? 12 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Have read other forums and could it be that snow socks could be the answer if i bought an A4 ? First choice would have been a 3 series BMW diesel coupe but think that's a no no because of the rear wheel drive ? -
Mileage advice required 8 Feb 2010 (Forum)
However, as I also spend a lot of time in my car it needs to be fairly roomy/comfortable etc. I have looked at a BMW 3 Series (poss the 1.8 diesel ES) which seem to have good mpg figures and also tick all the comfort boxes. Other possibilities are the new Passat or maybe a new Insignia (which doesn't have as good mpg). -
Volvo C70 (2000 - 2005 ) - Which Car? Which engine? 22 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Also, any other left field suggestions of a similar cars in this genre are greatly received. I have so far considered a BMW 330i and also Saab 9-3 Aero of similar vintage......... but keep coming back to the Volvo. -
are the 4 x 4 bashers now silenced 19 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Will this winter put an end to the tree hugging brigade of 4 x 4 bashers, me thinks that for the next few years people will be drawn to these cars as they recall this winter. Anyone see the Topgear BMW X6 review where it got stuck on a grassy knoll and a Range Rover sailed past it? clearly there are 4x4s and then there are 4x4s of course! I'm not a specialist, never having owned one with zero experience of them, but come the time I will come on here and seek advice. -
Car choice dilema 17 Dec 2009 (Forum)
But will be quicker, smoother, have rwd and maybe more satisfying than a Mondeo. Tried an A6 Avant but didn't like it. Don't fancy a BMW. Mondeo seems to be the best of the mass-market fwd cars. Head says Mondeo, heart says Merc. What would an educated BRer chose? -
Input on my next car please!!!!! 27 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have discounted the silly cars in respect of cost of income tax and cars that I really wouldn?t drive and here is my shortlist. Audi A4 TDI Avant SE 143 BMW 3 series Touring 320d SE Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI CR 170 Elegance Rav 4 2.2D XT-R (not really sure about this one) Verso T Spirit 2.0 d4d (again not really sure) Passat Diesel estate Highline CR DSG (I do like autos) Tiguan 2.0 TDI SE Volvo V50 2.0d SE Lux (both powershift and non-powershift are available) Your thoughts are most welcome. -
Audi drivers one inch from your rear bumper 25 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Just driven 300 miles and constantly had one audi after another driving one inch behind me, and no I was not driving too slow, mostly I had a long line of cars in front of myself plus some sensible braking distance, whether I was doing 5 mph or aherm 100 mph there they were an inch behind I let countless of them past since they were being so aggresive, but gave up in the end Really when I get a terminal illness and nothing really matters anymore I'm going to slam the brakes on for one of these people and shoot the pants off him How did the take all the Hobs out of Hobnobs and leave the other stuff as audi drivers The BMW's/Mercs/Volvos are still as bad as usual but what are they doing to Audis to turn anyone who drives one into an instant idiot? What magiv technology do they have to help them survive driving like this? -
2nd mid-life crisis- so, what car? 15 Feb 2009 (Forum)
That's the heart speaking. The other voice; emanating from my head, says some form of 6 cyl exec' i.e. BMW 3 series or Merc' CLK or an Audi. Pray to God my backside has no say in it then heaven knows what we will end up with. Got to be auto, leather. Choices, choices. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 00 1.8 Escort Van poor starting 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)
However, next morning, no change, still a nightmare to start, but then once running it starts first time all day. I had something similar on an old BMW years ago and eventually sorted it by putting a non-return valve on the fuel pipe, on the engine side of the filter, but on the Escort its harder to see where this should go. Any ideas much appreciated! -
Is this a weird fantasy? 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Always loved big luxury cars but could never quite afford these when they came out new (being 17/18 at the time) and no other current luxury car "does it for me". In other words, would rather spend £500 - £900 on one of these than £30k on a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes (not that I have £30k). I keep having dreams about owning a car like one of these, constantly look for cheap deals on auction websites / car websites, watching similar cars being renovated on Wheeler Dealer, checking out parked cars, and going round second hand dealers.
