  • Nissan Qashqai+2 - Finally traded my Tino in 1 May 2018 (Forum)
In the end 7 seats was something we really wanted and as my wife’s family are flying over this week then it was decision time. It’s got the 1.6 CDi Renault start stop engine which Honest John seems to rate. I really wanted an automatic and wasn’t after a diesel but I do enough long runs and will be driving to France this year so the fuel economy will be nice.
  • All - automatic transmissions 18 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Iv been driving automatics for decades so had my share of problems but learned early that the fuid does not last for ever ,a lot of people seem to think it does , As far back as the 60s a service did not include changing the fluid and these days its still not part of the service as units are either sealed for life or as the manufactures say, or in the case of renault when it breaks and we fit another unit it will have fresh fluid , Transmission fluid should be changed at or before 30,000 miles ,yes your going to say but its fully synthetic and there is no mention in the hand book about that ,point is if you change the fluid or better still flush it you get most of the muck out that blocks up the valve body and the screen filter inside , the majority of todays automatics dont have dip sticks they have level tubes up inside the drain plug that have to be taken out just to drain them ,and you need to drain them from hot  put the level tube back in and then find the fill plug and with the engine running  in neutral and at appx 60 deg pour the fluid in untill the fluid starts to run out of the drain / level hole , thats if you dont have to take the pan off ,some dont have drain plugs ,its messy and you do have to know what you are doing but if you dont know what your doing get the dealers to do it for you your transmission will last a lot longer !
  • See you later undertaker 23 Apr 2015 (Forum)
This is an example of bed manners, but whose ? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/11552932/Hero-Renault-driver-blocks-undertaking-idiot-in-a-Mercedes.html A number of years ago the motorway through Hyde was under construction and long tail backs were the norm.  The regular travellers waited in line in the near side lane and it worked very well in a civilised manner.
  • Clio/Jazz/medium-small - Another buyer who's scared of the 2nd hand market 2 Sep 2014 (Forum)
My Clio II Dci is starting to have problems and after the current major repairs (diesel pump, injectors, lines) after just 100,000kms, I really do not know whether to keep it or not.  I had bought it new, and had expected much more from it, having had other reliable Renault cars before it (believe it or not!!). My budget is Euros 10,000 maximum, and I want something 5-7 years old, and not older.  I have mixed experience with second hand cars. I fancied the Honda Jazz, until I read about the cost of servicing.
  • MkII DCi - Scenic - Parking brake fault after pads changed! 20 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Considering that the work they did was entirely mechanical, having not touched any electrics etc, it is hard to understand how this has happened.  The car is out of warranty... am loathed to throw money in a bottomless pit to Renault to rectify this, considering the management system is indicating a fault that does not exist in reality.  Please can anyone offer advice where to go with this.  Many thanks!
  • A reliable people carrier - Suggestions for a good value 7 Seater ? 20 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I suspect that the Corolla Verso is too small but there was an Avensis Verso too wasn't there , again - could be too pricey. I would advise that he avoids any Renault Espace / Grand Scenic - lovely cars but unreliable and expensive to repair (at least the one's he can afford) ?   Any thoughts from the back-roomers - I seem to recall that someone runs a Galaxy to stellar (pardon the pun) mileages ?
  • Toyota Camry (2002 - 2006) - 03 .65 A number of questions? 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hopefully these questions do not seem too obvious: (The vehicles this is relevent to is a toyota camry and honda deauville) Q1. I have heard someone say that their renault megane uses 1/2 common rail. I cannot grasp this concept: what exactly does he mean? Q2. Can anyone offer advice/ give a video of how to change a motorcycle clutch and synchronise carbs. Something for dummies would be great!
  • Mazda 626 (1997 - 1999) - 2 litre - a lumpy engine? 29 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I don't know how long the vehicle had been in the parking lot before I started it. In comparison, when I looked at my Renault 1.4L at start up, on that car there's no discernable movement of the engine at idle. The revs are just about 1000 rpm as well first thing, although I know that they settle to about 500 rpm once the engine's warmed up.
  • Peugeot 206 SW (2002 - 2006) - Most efficient/economical driving style 24 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Recently I sold my Renault Megane 1.9dti (2000 model) which had done 85k of pretty reliable motoring. In the last two years (after 2 speeding convictions) I had been observing a 2,000rpm limit which transformed the mpg's from c40mpg to c60mpg.
  • Rover 45 (1999 - 2005) - 2003 1.8 IXS Auto - does anyone know this model? 3 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hello everyone - I have just joined today. I have just bought an 03 '45' after moving from Renault and I am really pleased with it, but want to know a couple of things wjich may seem basic to the forum, so please humour a pensioner! 1. The car has only done 19K and is immaculate with all the books/service docs.

  • Image - why is this country so obsessed? 6 Aug 2006 (Forum)
And isn't it interesting how other countries take pride in their national products (Italians buy lots of Fiats, the French buy lots of Renaults etc.) when we went out of our way to buy anything as long as it wasn't British?
  • what do you think? 26 May 2006 (Forum)
I left a 5-6' gap between the Megane that was infront of me and the Fiat behind. After a couple of hours shopping on returning to my car the Fiat and Renault had been replaced by a Bora at the rear and a Mini (proper one) at the front both only 6" or so from my bumpers. Both cars were parked without annyone in them and no houses around to knock doors and ask who ownes them.
  • Guarantee on Work 29 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I've only asked a question on here once before, but the answers were so helpful I thought I'd come back. Contrary to all that helpful advice on my first car, I bought an eleven year old Renault Clio (my budget got very very small after I posted here). Anyway, I was trundling round when I heard (and felt) this really nasty grinding noise from the front driver's side tyre. My mum half-diagnosed it as 'something to do with brakes', and I remembered that the seller told me about how he'd had all the brakes done and that the work was guaranteed for a year.
  • Surprising Focus 4 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Fake aluminium trim - why can't we have the real thing? But now it's gone back to its owner, so I am back in Megane. Seats are more comfortable in the Renault and the trim quality is also better, including the door panels. Megane's steering is not as sharp but handles about the same and not much in the ride. Brakes much sharper in Megane. Gear change a bit more notchy than Focus.

  • Form or Function 8 Sep 2005 (Forum)
This thread is a follow on from the thread on "Britain's Favourite Car" namely the Toyota Yaris Verso. In particular the posts by Renault Family and PeterB where they state: "no one wants one as its offensive on the eye and utterly pointless." "I've not been able to take these seriously since I saw them described as "a cut and shut between a supermini and a greenhouse"!
