Vectra 2004 Multi-function computer 9 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I took ownership of a 04 registered Vectra Sri in March.I noticed early on that the screen on the computer display had a "Hot-spot".The dealer agreed and ordered a new one under Warranty. As I drove the car out of the garage, after the repair, I tried setting up the computer, only to find that it didn't have any multi-function options i.e average distance, mpg etc.It was a basic screen only showing the radio station, temp etc. The dealer ordered another and it was the exact same. They said they used the part number off of my original unit and Vauxhall were supplying the wrong ones.I then got my original refitted to the car.I was phoned some 10 days later and told that all units are the same and have to be programmed to the car????? -
Time for a new battery? 16 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend a source of inexpensive but reliable batteries, I don't want to pay Honda prices. Q3. I haven't got the security code for the radio, but it has not locked me out yet. What triggers the code security to be activated, ie. does a 'dead' battery still provide enough power to the memory chip? Considering that when the car was left for a week over the Christmas holidays, there was so little charge that even the digital clock died. -
Morons. 16 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The guy was doing about 30 mph on a 50mph stretch of in fairly heavy traffic but seemed totally oblivious of the danger he was posing to other road users on either side of the carriageway! This morning I heard a piece on Radio 5 concerning how little many drivers know about the basic controls and warning lights on their cars. Can't recall all the figures exactly but 1 in 8 had no idea what the rear demister switch was for, about 30-40% had no idea what the air-bag failure warning light was and a similar proportion couldn't identify the coolant temperature gauge! -
Sluggish Vectra Diesel 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I got to my destination and when I got in to return home I switched on the ignition and the EML had cleared and the drive was better though still not right. A possible factor is an electrical fault - I have noticed that the screen display for time , radio station name etc is not functioning correctly with gaps everywhere. I would appreciate any suggestions as to likely causes before I go to the garage. -
Pointless Features 30 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Thus, there is a trade-off, in that the car is made more desirable by the toy's presence but less desirable in that it may be less reliable and more expensive to repair. Long ago when cars were basic, the addition of (say) a radio must have seemed unequivocally good in that the benefit was large, the risk small, and if it broke then you were no worse off. Now, the marginal benefit seems to be getting smaller, and the downside of failure might be worse - vide the electric doors (do they have a mechanical backup?). -

Pay as you go insurance 15 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Heard a piece on the radio earlier this week about pay as you go insurance, ie the more you drive the more you pay. Was wondering what the BR thought on this. It is a scheme that Norwich Union are considering (I am sure that there was mention of this a few years back) where they install a Black Box to see how far you drive and at what time of the day. -
Mega-stars wot I know. 22 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Anybody asks you a difficult question - like which makes the best boat anchor, the V6 or the Diesel Freelander, I`ll mail you the answer from your own website, so tell the girlie on the radio with you to pay attention. I`m still trying to work out whether or not I could get a Brazilian to ring you from Rio with a problem with his local dealer. your adoring fan, Mark. *Our Glorious Leader -

Auction report, St. G-Hill, X5s, & Reg Nos. 11 Nov 2001 (Forum)
There is also a Merc with the plate D1 SCO, another car (I forget the make) driven by a dishy blonde girl with the plate 50 FAT. I wonder if Disco belongs to Steve Penk the Capital radio DJ who lives locally? Other "stars" who live in the area include: Mike Yarwood also was seen regularly in a Rolls. Michael Aspel drives a Merc and has lunch at the Swan on Manor Road almost daily. -
FIAT Bravo - Looking for advice regarding my consumer rights 18 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Main problem I have is that the company concerned is in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and I'm in Coventry, otherwise if more local I would be making a person visit to get my property and money back. Previously I received some very good legal advise regarding a faukty car radio from a member here, ROBJP, who I pleased to hear from again over this new matter. -
Peugeot 307 2002 5Door - Car wont start after stereo install attempt 21 Jul 2017 (Forum)
LOL. basically i got this stereo set up yesterday, everything working fine except that when the car is turned off it forgets all the settings i set.. which meant the radio wasnt getting constant power when the car is off. to locate that i took the wires and started plugging them into other random wires, the wire i was connecting was the yellow wire from the stereo, ground is connected, well i look on my dashboard and the light for the airbag is on, i get worried and put the wires back where they are meant to be. and start the car, the car starts. headlights turn on themselves, wipers are also running. i try turn them off but nothing happens its automatically doing those, i turn the car off and these turn off, i try to start the car again and it wont start. the battery is fine and has the power to turn the car on, the starter turns, the car cranks but just wont start. i need a solution to this problem ASAP please, any help would be appreciated. -
2009 diesel peugeot 207 5 door hatchback - Peugeot 207 diesel won't start 11 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hi I have seen this problem before but not really seen a satisfactory answer so please can someone help!! The car wont start, central locking fine, doors open on keys, ignition powers up, radio lights, etc everything works, but turn the key and nothing, the starter motor does not turn over ( seems to be a light click / ticking? In passenger compartment) the battery is good, fully charged and no current drop) I've checked fuses ( think it's the 2x 10 amp in fuse box in engine compartment, in fact checked all fuses and they seem ok with AVO meter!) -

Ford Mondeo 1.8 Edge 125 - Flywheel & Starter 1 May 2013 (Forum)
The car had been running fine and then as I accelerated from the lights the car revs seemed to go way up and then I heard a whining noise, the car lost power and then died on me. I have been unable to start it since. When I turn the key the radio and windows etc still come on but the ignition just makes a clicking sound. Previously there have been a couple of times when the car would not start but as these were random incidents split by months I put it down to the frosty weather and a low battery. -
Toyota Avensis Tourer - Feeble horn - help! 8 Sep 2012 (Forum)
What I would like to do is transplant a (readers' recommended) decent alternative with as little fuss as possible. Unlike radios and add-on lights, I've never found anywhere to actually "try before you buy", and I would like to make a straight swap for a horn that sounds "serious", perhaps a tad imperious, but it doesn't have to be ear-splitting to the point of shattering street lamps or inducing heart attacks. -
Peugeot 206 - 206 coil pack earth or suppressor snapped 24 Jul 2012 (Forum)
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb270/jaseuk/DSCF1658-1.jpg The garage have said that they didn't do it whilst checking the plugs (or when they changed the plugs last week during a service) and that all it does is stop interference affecting the radio. It went back to garage as the engine light started flashing with rough/lumpy running when putting any strain on the engine. Unfortunately the problem had 'fixed itself' by the time I got to the garage and nothing came up on the diagnostic. -
Ford Mondeo - Flickering Sony lights 30 Mar 2012 (Forum)
This has been happening since I bought the car about 3 1/2 years ago and still does it after having replaced the alternator after it failed recently but, was hoping, it has not change the flickering problem. Is there a regulator for the radio/Sony and or dash illuminations? Usual solution is to turn it off. Help! -
Ford Focus - Focus battery warning light 5 Feb 2012 (Forum)
A couple of times I have seen the light come on as I'm braking at lights. The revs drop but it doesn't cut out entirely. Also, my radio and odometer backlights flicker and dim when the headlights are on. This seems to get worse the longer I have been driving. Given that I've had the alternator replaced twice, I'm assuming that the new (120 amp) one is on the way out too.
