Blowing bulbs and ECUs. Renault Megane 27 Feb 2005 (Forum)
On my last visit a local auto electrician told me that in his opinion this is due to spikes created by thew ECU. The local dealer confirmed that over the past couple of years his sales of bulbs had more than doubled. The car was checked at the last service and ( at the time ) no fault coud be found. Any thoughts ? -
Xantia hydractive II query 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
With the Hydractive ECU disconnected (the hydractive sphere's should be out of the circuit?) the front of the car still moves, but is a little harder. As I would expect... However the back is almost rigid. I suspect that the rear hydractive ECU is doing all the work, and that's why the ride is crap..... -
Xantia hydractive problems 2 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Hello all, got a problem with hydractive II suspension on a Xantia VSX. System is stuck in hard mode and the ecu is behaving very oddly. Listening to 172LW I can hear the signal from the ECU and it appears to behave as it should, but every two minutes it switches in and out every second or so even if the car is stationary. -
Ford Fusion - Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCI EAC FAIL 18 Nov 2010 (Forum)
On a similar note, if the ecu is knacked would this be a good time to consider get a modded ecu ?. I can remember a similar thing happening to a mitsubishi I had (ECU failer), in that incident the car was under warranty and a refurb ecu was sourced very quickly, any idea's of where this may be available from and what complication's may arise (i.e would a refurb ecu be compatible ?) -
306 HDI 90 T reg - ECU/Imobilisor?? 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I towed it 1st garage who tried a new ignition aerial with no luck, refitted the original and said take it to better equiped garage. 3. 2nd garage removed ECU and sent away to Bosch for diagnostics which reported back saying ECU needs repair to fuel pump, however they can't do anything as secondary fault reported which might be imobilisor. 2nd garage thought car was imobilised due to 1st garage 'playing around' with ignition aerial. -

Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.5 diesel ECU needs recalibrating? 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
When she turned the key in the ignition the noises stopped, but started again as soon as she took the key out. Rang a local mechanic and he told me that the ECU needs to be recalibrated. Just wondering if this is common, and also is it expensive to fix? -

Vauxhall - Vivaro - 03 1.9 - ECU light keeps coming on 4 May 2008 (Forum)
The light stayed out for 24 hours, but the following day came back on again. The van is running very rough and using alot of diesel. The garage then replaced the ECU and pressure sensor, but this did not fix it either. Please can anyone give me any ideas what the problem may be. The garage have given up. {subject header made less vague} -
Rover 75 Diesel 51 plate - ECU problems 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
my 75 turned over but rfused to start. The ECU has flooded with rain water, as it happens, but the message coming back from the diagnostic analysis read along the lines of 'Fault Code not recognised' so the auto electrician cannot assure me that this is the sole problem. -
1999 Astra G - no ECU code! Help.... 23 Jun 2006 (Forum)
It´s a ´99 1.8 CDX Astra Estate. As far as I could understand the nice German mechanic, his machine required the ECU code unique to the car before he could ´get in´ to the system and start checking stuff. This apparently comes on a card...which I don´t have in the car document wallet. Grrr. Now, is there a ´default´ code that will bypass this problem, like a master key, and get into the system? -
Astra V High idle speed and ECU light 17 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Now when starting the car it has a very high idle speed and the engine mangement light comes on after a count of 5. I analysed the ecu 'blink codes' and it came out as 21 which I believe is a problem with the throttle position sensor. I tried disconnecting the sensor but still very high idle speed. Can anyone give me a pointer as to what I can try next? -

MG MG ZT (2001 - 2005) - Can having inlet manifold replaced wreck the ecu? 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I took my MG ZT into the local dealer to have the inlet manifold replaced the car was working perfectly apart from a noise which they told me was the flaps in the inlet manifold hence the need for it to be replaced. The garage then informed me that the ecu unit had burnt out and also required replacement. I had no choice but to agree to the work as I needed the car back but I asked them if it was possible that the damage to the ECU had been caused by them. -
Vauxhall Vectra ECU throttle sensor 10 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi all unlucky Vauxhall vectra owners! I have a 1998 2.0 dtl diesel estate which suffers from an intermittant ecu fault - which quite often happens at 70 mph on the motorway! Randomly the ecu light comes on and revs die to 1000 rpm -the car slows rappidly as it is obviously impossible to drive like this.By getting onto the hard shoulder stopping and turning engine off for a minute before restarting where by the fault has cleared.I have had the computer red on several occasions and the fault is always stored as throttle position sensor even though on digital readout the pedal seems to work fine. -
Ford Focus ECU Problem? 19 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Has anybody got any ideas as to the cause of the problems? I suspect they may be associated and to me they suggest a problem with the ECU. The car is always parked outside. Is it likely that damp has affected the ECU? Thanks, Tim
