  • Mazda Mazda 3 (2004 - 2009) - Something odd caught my eye - is it a lemon? 3 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Something weird caught my eye under the bonnet which made me walk away: At the back of the engine block was a silver coloured metal cover that initially ran horizontally with the engine block, before heading downwards, perhaps as if it was covering exhaust pipes (sorry I'm not mechanically minded if that wasn't obvious!) Now, this metal cover was lumpy and buckled and in some places looked 'creased'.

  • Ford Warranty Question 24 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have a Mondeo TDCI 54 which is now 21/2 years old which I believed came with a 3 years warranty. I am having difficulties in establishing exactly what is covered by this so called warranty. For a few months I have had problems with water getting in through the rear passenger door seal and according to the dealership this is not covered by Ford! Now, my car is booked in next week for a gearbox problem where I am unable to engage the reverse gear first thing in the morning without first going through a couple of other gears.
  • VAG 1.2tsi - Liquid gaskets 17 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Im having a timing chain changed today, I believe this involves removing covers including the sump, all of which are sealed with a liquid gasket paste. Question: When they apply the gasket goo and refit he sump/covers, is any curing time required before filling the engine with oil and running?
  • Which recovery organisation 7 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I have just received an astronomical quote from RAC for renewal.  Last year I negotiated it down but am somewhat fed up of this (e.g. personal cover quoted instead of car cover) The AA give a much better price. However, Green Flag are even better. Not sure of Green Flag merits, e.g fleet and mechanics ( as averages etc I know it depends on individuals) I would welcome hearing the collective wisdom on the quality and service provided by breakdown organisations.
  • FORD FOCUS ESTATE 2000W 16v ZETEC PETROL - OIL CONSUMPTION 5 Sep 2012 (Forum)
My petrol focus has covered 189,000 miles and as now started to use a lot of oil, there are NO leaks. It has been to the garage and had the rocker cover seal replaced. They reported no other problems. The car is very reliable, I often do runs of 500 miles, getting >38mpg.
  • DPF - Does all new vehicles come with it now? 26 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I am now thinking of my next car. I would like to try a diesel now but they all come with a DPF. I know that DPF tends to be very problematic and the repair costs are high. This might not cover the fuel savings made by driving a diesel vehicle.

I got a Indicator stalk from the breakers for my car and have trouble replacing it. I thought it is as simple as to remove the steering cover and replacing the stalk but its turning out to be tricky. Questions : 1. what screw driver will i need for the steering cover?
  • "Gap insurance..." 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
For my new Hyundai 1.6 I am offered by GMAC (via the dealer) "equivalent vehicle price" for three years at about £500. "Purchase price refund" would cost less and I do not need "finance repayment" cover. As I haved not written off, or had stolen any of my previous 24 cars (apart from the first, which burnt to death spontaneously after 48 hours) I am sceptical. Comments on the value of such cover welcomed.

  • Insurance and self driving 12 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Having just renewed my insurance policy and deciding to go with another company, I was reading my policy documents ( as I’m sure everyone on here does) when I came to a section about automated self driving cars, it says I won’t be covered if I have an accident if the car is driving itself, I don’t have a self driving car, or do I.?, my car can park itself, either reversing into a space ( used it twice) or parallel parking ( not tried it) , now I still have to use the accelerator and brake but the car does everything else, now is this classed as self driving, yes I know it’s only parking, but if I have an accident and have to claim whilst using this feature would I be covered..?
  • C5 - rear tyre wear 28 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Having found this out, I went hotfoot to the local Citroen dealer, only to be told that Citroen won\'t cover the cost of rectifying the problem with any car that has covered more than 20K miles. To me this is amazing, as it is due to a known fault (that has been known about for some time), but it has never been subject to a recall.

  • Car rental excess insurance 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)

  • Warranties 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hypothetical question: If I buy a used car with remainder of the maker's warranty from a dealer, but not a dealer working for the maker - who is responsible for any faults? For instance if the maker's warranty doesn't cover water leaks in the second and third year, yet the used car leaked within 2 weeks after buying it used, could a claim be made against the selling dealer?
