main dealer-do they really want to sell me a car? 23 Aug 2007 (Forum)
There he meets an attractive young lady and talks to her for 10 mins. Gets back in the car, no apology, and says that she works for Audi, which is where he also used to work, and they get better company cars. Considering he should be trying to sell me his company car, this seemed an odd comment! He drives foot to the floor at all times, but this sort of behaviour just puts me off and makes me resolve never to buy an ex-demo car (oh dear, my current car was a demo!). -
What used family car? Too much choice is a curse.. 29 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Current cars I'm considering (all 2-3 yrs old); · USED Skoda Superb TSI 1.5 or 2.0 (S E L Executive or Sport line) – o Pro: Passenger and boot space enormous, good standard kit, like the Sportline look; o Con; Rare to find 1.5 Sportline used, top of budget for nearly new model, will I be mistaken for a taxi driver! · USED Audi A4 Avant TFSI 1.4 or 2.0 (S Line) o Pro: refined, well built and good looking vehicles, budget friendly due to popularity o Con; Boot space could be better – will this cope with demands of family-life · VW Passat Estate 1.5 TSI (SE Business or GT) o Pro - Passenger and boot space generous o Con – Questionable reliability · Mazda 6 Tourer o Pro – Good looking, and decent passenger and boot space o Con – Rare to find used · BMW 3 Series touring o Pro – Ride quality and driving experience, and ticks the snob box o Con – Lowest boot space so question practicality -
2015 Peugeot 308 1.6 BlueHDI - Judder - Clutch and DMF replaced under warranty 24 May 2018 (Forum)
They booked my car in very quickly(even with a courtesy car required), they have been professional and always kept me up to date. I have owned numerous cars in the past including Audi's, BMW's, Seat's and Ford's and I have never received particularly great service until I came to the so called "poor relation". Well done Peugeot. On a slight negative, the dealer where I bought the car from (not Robins and Day) cannot be complemented quite so much. -
A new motor for Daveyjp 5 Jul 2015 (Forum)
I went to look at a Golf SV, but rear legroom wasn’t brilliant and it was the 150bhp GT version, so silly rims and tyres – our local VW dealers, like many, aren’t the best either. Audi Q3, Q5 with same engine – too expensive at 12 months old. 3 series GT 2.0 Petrol X drive manual, expensive and I missed not sitting high up. 2 series sports tourer – currently only has the 1.5 engine and it didn’t feel roomy inside. -
Thoughts on this 80mph idea? 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
My concern would be for people in lower powered vehicles feeling vulnerable on these faster roads but the fact is the 80 limit wouldnt be a minimum, people would be mroe than welcome to travel at 70, but i fear people doing so would be bullied by your typical Audi driver who feels his journey is most important. Small engined vehicles have poor fuel economy at high speed in comparison with some larger engined vehicles, if they insist on doing this, it has to be done to be made plain that going at 65-70 is still perfectly ok for those who choose to do so, providing they're not doing it in the third lane LOL! -
2006 Mercedes CLK 200 Kompressor Cabrio - High days and holidays car, a report 5 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Hi I normally post on here prior to buying a new car asking for help with the choices but on this occassion I just went and bought one so thought I would feedback with impressions of the car thus far. Previous weekend cars have included the Mk1 Audi TT (225) which was excellent and a Volvo C70 Cabrio (which was not!). We fancied another 4 seat cabrio with a bit of performance and a degree of cachet and always like the look of the Merc so after a bit of time spent online researching what was out there we flew down last March from Edinburgh to Stanstead then got the train up to a dealers specialising in reasonably priced older prestige cars in a small town near Cambridge where we bought the thing for just under 4 grand. -
Cash allowance + vehicle age policy = confusion 7 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Seeking a bit of class, comfort and economy, on my 1.5hr commute to work each day (on a good run). ----------------------- Cars interested in: Audi A5 MB C-Class MB C-Class coupe (C220d probably for economy) My father keeps banging on that I should just get a Skoda Superb and stop thinking about such fancy cars, so I'm adding that to the list for his benefit - although I appreciate it's good bang for your buck. -
Reborn classics - your choices? 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Rover P5B - based on Ford DEW98 platform as on Lincoln LS/Jag S-type/XF (so a bit bigger than the original) with (if it would fit) Range Rover 3.6L diesel V8, maybe even Audi A8 4.2L diesel V8. I'd even quite like an estate version *flame war begins* Rover SD1 - base it, again, on DEW98 platform. Stylish, practical, fast, this time even great to drive - what's not to like? -
Cabrio joy 10 May 2020 (Forum)
Even the hugely expensive Saab 900 was a blancmange on wheels, the later Cavalier based models were horrid and had a nasty habit of splitting its bulkhead. Modern examples like the Audi A3 are much improved but mostly come with fat wheel and brick hard suspension along with a daft price tag and a rattling Diesel engine. Smaller cars are often more enjoyable to drive but chopping the roof off a favourite hot hatch like the 205 GTi typically ruined the handling and ride. -
Various - New Car??? - Replace writ off C Class Executive SE 8 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Discounted… BMW, don’t like the finish, think Merc and Audi feel and finish is so much better than what BMW can offer (apart from the 6 series, which again I can’t afford!), VW – hate their auto gear box, sluggish and seems to be in the wrong gear regularly and the only ones I like are cc GT’s (has a chain drive or something (I’m not very technical!) -
Volkswagen Passat - Consumer Advice Req - 2 Breakdowns in 10 weeks 31 Jan 2011 (Forum)
My accident, and subsequent requirement to get a replacement car, was pretty badly timed, as I took on a job in December which includes a company car, but I won't take delivery of it until May at the earliest, as I've only just handed back the last demo vehicle this morning. I'm going with the Audi A4 Avant. Cheers Will -
The car you drive.. 21 Oct 2006 (Forum)
A bit unreliable, and can be eccentric too. You hate BMW drivers, but think and act just like them. Audi You would like to believe you are part of the new generation that is caring, environmentally conscious and family-orientated. Actually quite boring; nothing more than a glorified wuss. Will one day probably drive a Merc, but you still sometimes wonder if you shouldn't have bought that Bee-Em. -
Had An Accident Today - Uninsured Pilloc 25 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Intially i felt sorry for him - but on reflection, it is people like that that nearly cost my wifes life as we had a hit and rn about 15 years ago, the audi that was nearly new then sustained 2500 danamge - my wife had just got in the car. So all n all, did me and my family do well at the very least to get one unroad owrth car of the road and a criminal driver in the dock - i just feel sad that i should have lied about the the pasenger and got him searched as we are all certain he was carrying a weapon :( Swearing (or attempt at bypassing the swearfilter) removed DD -
Dilemma of dilemmas of dilemmas 2 Feb 2012 (Forum)
And traditionally it seems the economy of diesel engines isn't badly impacted by a larger body (e.g. Audi A6 1.9 could still do 50+ mpg), so it seems I might as well get a bigger car rather than a smaller one, if it falls within the window of choice. Another consideration: In general, I prefer the driving position of a 'normal' car rather than an MPV. -
My 1st month, 3300 miles, with an S-Max 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Silly, I know but small things like this make the difference. However, let?s be realistic. If this car was made by BMW or Audi, it wouldn?t have had a list price of £24500, it would be nearer £34500!!! Behind the Wheel I?ve read all the reports that say this is the least MPV-like of all the MPV?s and I was expecting to sit a lot lower than you actually do. -
Used versus Reconditioned Engines 7 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Unfortunately, this analogy isn’t a perfect scenario, it only works in high percentage rates for vehicles less than eight years old and without design faults. As an example it would be pointless to replace a failed Audi 2.0 tdi engine with a used one as the badly designed oil pump that likely caused the failure would still need replacing. Vehicles older than eight year old will be harder to source low mileage used engines for, in cases such as these partially rebuilt used engines are the only cost effective option Ultimately no two scenarios are the same but as an absolute must when making a large purchase over the phone or internet is PAY BY CREDIT CARD that way your card provider protects you from faulty or fraudulent purchases. -
Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Test Drive - Impressions 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
OK, you could argue our standards are not high with our existing cars, but I travel quite a lot in BMWs, Mercedes and Audis, and I know how these things feel, and the Ford is definitely in the same ballpark. It feels like it will still be working perfectly in 10 years time. It also seemed a little more spacious inside than the Renault, particularly in terms of rear seat legroom, although I found the "split" A pillars a little weird at first. -
SEAT Toledo - My new car 17 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Technical updates - I enquired regarding map updates and it seems SEAT UK does not operate the free map updates seen in Europe (and in the UK for Skoda, VW and Audi). I assume the new Toledo has a reasonably up-to-date map version installed, but as with any pre-installed system the maps tend to lag a long way behind stand-alone units / phones running Google maps etc. -
Citroen DS5 - My Road Test Report 13 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Without doubt the 18” wheels and 45 series rubber do not help, but quite simply, in my opinion, Citroen have tuned the suspension all wrong. In wanting to attract drivers out of their BMWs and Audis, Citroen have missed the mark in trying to deliver an engaging drive, and created a car which is neither sporty to drive nor rides as well as these Germans. This is a shame, because with some tweaks to the suspension to make it ride better, Citroen could have a great car on their hands, and I believe the majority of owners would forego sharp handling for the exciting design and interior of the car, if only it was comfortable over the bumps. -
Choosing a second car - ideas? 10 Feb 2008 (Forum)
t have an MPV to tempt me from my Grandis or to compete with S-MAX, C-4, Espaces, Galaxy? they don?t have premium mid-size saloon either like Audi A4, BMW3 / Lexus IS ? nothing!!!!! what do they have? Oh.. the GT-R coming! Wow! But what a price. Sorry for the sideways rant, but being in their showroom yesterday left me SO disappointed. While I am on a rant, Toyota too?
