  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 06 2.0 Zetec petrol auto, steer clear or buy? 19 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Years ago I had a auto fiesta that was nothing but trouble and was told by garage, gearbox was on its way out (at 25,000) and have stuck to a Renault ever since! But thinking times have changed I went for a drive in the c-max and thought it was great, paid my 500.00 deposit .. until I read loads of reviews that have honestly made me go grey with worry!
  • Has a Car TV advert ever made you buy? 31 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I still remember watching a British Rail (or whatever they were called) advert in the early 90s which parodied various car adverts of the period: opening hangar doors (BMW), priest on train (Renault 19?), train zipping past a blazing field (Peugeot 405), Papa and Nicole on the platform (Clio). All very clever. I asked SWMBO how many car adverts she'd spotted and she of course replied, "what car adverts"!
  • Common rail diesel economy 8 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Drove it the same way on the same roads at the same speeds at the same time. Mondeo - 46 mpg Scenic - 53 mpg (computer showed 55 mpg) The Renault is 100cc bigger, 150kg heavier, and considerably less aerodynamically efficient. They're good, these new diesels. • Megane Scenic RX4 Service Light 10 Apr 2007 (Forum)
hi, could anyone tell me how to reset the service light on a 2002 renault megane scenic rx4 1.9dci? i tried the usual methods of hold down odometer button whilst turning ignition on, this just gives me oil flashing in the display and some underscores where i assume the mileage to next service should be, also tried holding in the button for the on board computer on the end of the stalk and this just brings up alot of symbols in the display and causes the needles on the clocks to go from minimum to full and back again until the ignition is switched off, although the service light does go out when doing this it reappears at next start up. reaon i ask is it's my sisters car and it wasn't reset when serviced at an independant garage about 3 months ago so i suspect she has no chance of them doing it now cheers chris
  • Grand Scenic ECU problem!!! 19 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Whilst all this was going on, the dashboard read "CHECK INJECTION", follwed by "CHECK ESP/ASR" followed by the following warnings "CHECK OIL" "CHECK LAMBDA SENSOR" "GAS" "FILL WASHER FLUID", i pulled over, switched the engine off, and then back on again, NOTHING, no evidence that there was ever a problem! This has happened about 5 or 6 times now, i have taken it to renault, they seem 2 feed me the same bull that its just a ghost error and wipe the ecu, has anybody else had this probelm, and does anybody know what is causing it, Cheers

Renault want to charge £85.00 plus VAT for a diagnostic, but I am hoping someone on this site has had or knows about this problem and can tell me what it is. Here's hoping and thanks for reading JO

  • Another British Car Firm Gone... 2 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Well alright, they didn't make the real thing, but many a young lad from my generation fueled his lust for motors by gluing those little kits together. I can remember a Renault Dauphine, a two tone Sunbeam Rapier with whitewall tyres plus an E Type all suffering under my attempts with a tube of stringy Bostic. I had become quite expert by the time i got round to an Ariel Arrow, even the paintwork was impressive.
  • Scenic Diesel Camshaft/Belt 13 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Renault Scenic 1.9DCi, 63K miles, new cambelt, 250 miles later at 70mph, thump, all lights on. Recovery man said broken cambelt mate. Not me I said its new and only 250 miles. Cover removed, belt not broken but only quarter inch wide and lots of fibre threads.
  • 207 vs. Clio (and G. Punto). 16 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Now I know none of us will actually have driven them (though I could be wrong), but I do have several questions about the nature of them: a)Which is likely to be more reliable? b)Which will hold it's value better? c)Is Peugeot servicing cheaper than Renault, typically? I ask because in July/August I may be considering the pair as Focus-replacements. I'd be considering the 207 HDi (90) Sport and the Clio Dynamique dCi (86). With the reported increases in size I don't think the practicality would be hit too hard.
  • Price for a clutch?? 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hi Guys/Gals, I've currently got a Renault Clio R-reg (old shape) I've had it from new, and had pretty much every part on it changed at some point, due to the fact its been involved in a couple of crashes, timing belt snapped etc. The only major thing thats never been done is the clutch!
  • Megane Tyres 1 Apr 2005 (Forum)
A lady friend of mine, bought, last August a 53reg Megane with 12K on the clock from an independent dealer. Last week she took it into the Renault main dealer for a service at 14K. They failed the tyres stating they were illegal, I checked them and at best they are only 2.00mm, so they are well worn. The tyres are Continental 205/50/17. She feels she was conned, as the car has only done town work and with low mileage, the thought that there should be more tread on such low mileage tyres.
  • Biggest car design bloopers. Volume 1 4 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Volume 2 continues here:-} http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=27542 Following on from the thread about Renault Espaces taking in water through bumper-level air intakes, what other monumental car desigm mistakes can anyone think of? I read recently about a problem with one of the new coupe-cabriolet models with a folding steel roof - not sure which one.
  • which car - Six seats and flexible??? 10 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Most of the time, however, the new car will just be used for school runs - so I don't want to buy something too huge and difficult to park. Things I've looked at so far include Citroen C8, Renault Grand Scenic and Landrover Discovery. Any bright ideas or views would be much appreciated. Best regards Nicky B
  • Toyota Corolla Verso/Seat Altea/Scenic 26 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Currently have a Citroen Picasso HDi Exclusive, but want to change as it is coming to the end of the PCP arrangement. Been looking at the Toyota Corolla Verso, Seat Altea and Renault (Grand) Scenic and coming down mainly in the direction of the Toyota. I would appreciate some feedback on the Toyota before finalising. Main reason for choosing Toyota? perceived reliability, kit, size and occasional 7 seats (hence possibly Grand Scenic - VW Touran too expensive and I don't like the Zafira).
  • Hello all, my first post and first ?? 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I am a new (2 days) owner of the Renault Megane sport tourer. I live in Finland so the car is called Break over here, anyway I bought it slightly used (Registered NOV 2003 and at 10,000KM) and was extremely happy with it. Unfortunately one of the keys was broken so I had to leave the car at the dealers whilst they coded a new one.
  • Why don't you write back? 3 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I have travelled all over the world and nobody offers what HJ does, here. There are some VERY bright people here. Look at Renault Family, pugugly, embe, rob the bus, Mark (RLBS) what is that?, DD (awfully clever on GM Vauxhall), pugugly , oh yes, mentioned him. Hootie, HF.... This is not some awards night. The main board directors of some very articulate companies come here.
  • Clio petrol pump 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Daughter's friend brought round a 1.2 Clio S-reg today with a very noisy petrol pump. Renault dealer says £350 to replace while independent local garage says around £240. The dealer says the flow of fuel is within spec so the pump operation is OK apart from what sounds like mechanical (but plasticky) noise.
  • If my car fails its MoT 30 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I have a 1989 Renault 19 that's up for an MoT next week, and although I don't think there's anything wrong with it, there's always the possibility it will fail because of something I can't foresee, e.g., suspension components.
