  • I was a serial motoring offender. What now? 5 Sep 2017 (Forum)
A stupid boy who drove without insurance, failed to hand in my license and had numerous court dates to which I never turned up. I was a tear away. This all went on till about 10 years ago when I just stopped driving. I was, at the time, probably driving without a license as the courts had probably banned me in my absence. Time has moved on and I would like to get driving again (legally this time). Clearly I regret acting the way I did as a youngster.
  • Ford Focus 2013 - 17" v 18" alloys. 12 Jul 2015 (Forum)
The rental car had done similar miles, same model year, same engine, basically the same car (Zetec S -v- our titanium) driving on same roads, same driving style. There is one major difference however, my own car has the optional 18" alloys fitted, the Zetec S had 17" std Zetec S wheels. And what a difference 17" rubber makes.
  • Mercedes SLK200 AMG Sport - Car Lease Exchange on Medical Grounds - Advice 12 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I took delivery of a new Mercedes SLK on a two year lease from Mercedes in early september, for whatever reason driving the car has caused a back problem which hasnt bothered me in many years to return. Driving the car is vertually impossible as after four or five miles I am in so much pain I have to stop. At first I didnt realise it was the car which was causing the problem, however driving most other cars has no effect on my back at all, therefore I am unfortunatly having to come to conclution that the car is the cause, my doctor and physio are also in agreement.
  • Ford S-MAX - Buying S Max - now or wait? Petrol 1.6 or diesel? 10 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I am not sure however when is a good time to get the discounts - would the dealers be discounting it already now (the formal announcement is not made yet) or after it's formally released? Drive the deal site offers a nearly £5K discount off the £25K Titanium list price. Also looked at a nearly new one with the 13 reg, price is £18K with the 5K mileage. We are in central London, plan to hold the car and use it mainly in the city driving mode, so a bit worried about getting a diesel due to the particle filter etc issues of diesels in such environment.
  • Peugeot 206 1.4 2003 - ECU Failure Peugeot 206 14 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Would appreciate any advice ~ I have a Ref 2003 Peugeot 206 1.4 petrol engine with a Sagem ( 9646988680 / s2000A) ECU The car starts first time and runs ok - except for a slight intermittent misfire and high emissions in the form of wisp of black smoke when it starts - this reducing but not completely going when driving. The car drives well at speed, has power, does not stall and the slight misfire is hardly noticeable when driving I can probably resolve the emissions and misfire with new air filter, Co2 / MAP Sensor and Coil pack ~ but there is a fault with the ECU that I would appreciate some advice with When ignition is turned on on the dashboard ECU light comes on ( which it should ) ~ The ECU light goes off when the engine starts - and stays off, even when the Co2 & Map sensors are disconnected - which is a fault which should show an ECU light on the dash board ?
  • VW up! - VW ASG v smart Softip manual shifting 5 Jan 2014 (Forum)
And to restate, we are not at all interested in driving one in auto mode. Thanks.
  • The effect on speed on economy 17 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I have a rough rule of thumb; the range remaining should always increse for the first half of a tank, if I am driving steadily on the motorway and the previous few hundrd miles was mostly suburban driving.  At fill up this morning, the car suggested there was a range of 450 miles.  Driving along at about an indicated 72mph, the total of the range remaining plus miles driven since fill up rose from 450 towards 520.
  • Toyota Avensis - Toyota Avensis diesel-timing belt or chain? 16 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Can't find any reference in the handbook or service book if there is a belt and when it should be changed. There's also no advice about driving styles to avoid problems with blocked DFPs. The sales guy told me not to worry about my driving style or supermarket diesel, contrary to everything I've read on this and other sites about modern diesel engines.
  • Renault Clio II 1.2 Petrol '99 - Clio 1.2 has intermittent starting issues 8 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Call the AA, wait 20 mins, by the time they arrive, it will start again and then drive perfectly fine to another 3 weeks or so. In reality, the not starting issues are random and can happen any time, but usually a few weeks apart. It will usually start from cold, but after a short drive of say 8 miles, if you switch off, then go to start, it will also have this problem.
  • KIA Magentis - To buy or not to buy? 26 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I just went to pick up my new (2007) Kia Magentis (2.7 V6 Auto) having had a good test drive a few days ago. But as I went to drive it out of the showroom it squealed like a little pig, well actually it was more like a great big huge pig! Really loud and sustained. It certainly didn't do this when we went for a test drive.
  • Ford Focus - Focus battery warning light 5 Feb 2012 (Forum)
When I'm starting it from cold, revs will drop and it will cut out with the battery light on unless I sit for a couple of mins with my foot on the accelerator. If I drive away without doing this it will cut out the first time I take my foot off the accelerator. In general it seems to drive OK, but a couple of times the battery light has come on for a few seconds and then goes out.
  • Peugeot 406 HDi (110) 200 X reg - 406 Gremlins / Not Starting 23 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, My Old man borrowed the keys to my 406 last weekend, gave him the spare rather than the plip, and after driving 20 miles, stopping (engine off) to hitch a trailer, starting, driving 150 yds or so and stopping again to load up, car would then not restart. Thinking it might be the key/immobiliser I went with the plip key and locked/unlocked with plip before trying to start but still no joy.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.9 diesel, 2005 - PAS goes very stiff in hot weather 26 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I did wonder if the drive belt wasn't driving the auxilliaries (including the steering pump) properly since we recently had to change the battery because it was almost dead flat, but a voltage check from the alternator showed approx. 14v however, at the time, the weather wans't quite so hot and the engine compartment wasn't either.
  • Citroen Xantia - Turbo Diesel - Advice / Opinions on cheapie! 24 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Obviously I will need it to drive ok as I will be driving it to the builders yard / rubbish tip etc.   Anything I got to look out for? How do I check the suspension is ok? Also the 3rd gear crunches if you change fast, its ok when done slowly (so the owner tells me)   Come on guys...what you think?
  • In-Car Entertainment: USB ports'n'stuff 23 May 2011 (Forum)
My question is this: how does this work? I'm used to downloading stuff onto USB pen-drives (if that's what they're called).  I'm also used to downloading music from i-tunes and playing them on my desktop.  Can I just copy music files from my PC onto my USB pen-drive, then plug it into the car stereo, and "Hay Presto!"
  • Audi A3 Sportback - New Car for Motorway Driving 7 Apr 2011 (Forum)
(I tested a 2.0 TDI Scirocco, and whilst I loved the car, the boot was terrible for getting things in and out of!) -Comfortable for long range driving (I do 200 mile round trips at least once a week) -Mainly for use on the motorway, so picking up speed between 50 and 80 is very important to me Those are my main concerns.  Fuel economy is a bonus, but not essentail as I am fortunate enough to have a Fuel card.
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta Fuel Consumption 18 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I beileve the tracking and tyres are now fine but the fuel consumption is not. Most annoying the fuel consumption is not very good, across all types of driving, short distances to long motorway runs it has never achieved better than 300miles per tank. Mostly the driving we do in the car is 6 miles each end of the day to the train station and then longer runs (150 miles+) at the weekends, this mix of driving conditions still means we end up with a fuel consumption of 29-30 mpg.
  • Peugeot 207 - Fire damage 14 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I have obviously told my insurance who are in talks with Pug. My question is will this be a write off? Can I refuse the car back as I wil not drive the car I don't trust the workmanship and don't want the car setting on fire again? To be honest I dont want the car back now. Insurance have asked for V5, copy of driving licesne, service history and keys etc.
  • Peugeot 607 - 607 3.0 Auto 'Clonks' into Reverse Gear 31 May 2010 (Forum)
I tried it several times and everytime I selected reverse the same jolt happened. I then put the car into Drive and with my foot on the brake again, it didn't feel as though the car wanted to creep forward. The car seemed to drive okay into the auction hall but I was a bit worried about the clang when I put it into reverse?
  • Idiot driving Aston Martin Vanquish - Bristol 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I don't usually start threads about individual cases of bad driving I come across, but this one in Bristol is worth the effort. I was using a very tricky sliproad where there's limited visibility of traffic approaching from behind on the dual carriageway I was about to join.
