Nissan Almera - Nissan Almera 'woo woo' whistling noise 11 Apr 2011 (Forum)
It doesn't matter what gear I am in, and the noise keeps going even if I put the clutch down and coast for a bit, so I'm assuming it is not the gearbox? If I even slightly touch the foot brakes it stops. If I turn the wheel slightly to one side, it sometimes stops also. If I put the hand brake on slightly, it keeps going, so I'm guessing it is somewhere at the front of the car. -
Audi A6 TDI 2.5 Saloon - Servicing an Audi A6 with Uniparts 12 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I basically need the full service including having the Cambelt replaced. I have been quoted £949 from Audi with the brake fluid, £900 without brake fluid. kwikfit have quoted me £715 with brake fluid, £685.05 without brake fluid. Audi are saying that they use Genuine Audi parts, whereas Kwikfit are using Uniparts. -
Ford Fiesta 1388 zetec year 2000,"x"reg - Correct rear brake hoses? 21 Sep 2010 (Forum)
A local accessories shop supplied me with 3 sets of rear brake shoes and 3 sets of wheel cylinders before they got it right. They have supplied 2 different sets of rear flexi brake hoses, both too short.I need 355mm hoses with male end to fit steel pipe and cutaway for securing clip(hose attaches through bracket in wheel housing). At the other end the alloy wheel cylinder accepts a male connection but original hose had chamfered female at that end,so either will do for attachment to wheel cylinder. -

Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 97 1.6 brake problems!! please help.... 13 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I noticed the pads were pretty good pads, but were worn down on the edges (and smelt!) the discs seem o.k, tried the handbrake and that pushed the caliper out and so did the brakes, i know you need a special tool to get the piston back in, but it does seem like the caliper is o.k, (no leaks) power steering fluid is the right level. my question is, what could have caused this binding on, if it is not the piston? -
Cruise shall decision 11 Apr 2009 (Ask HJ)

Ford Mondeo 1 (1993 - 1996) - 96 1.8TD mark2 brake caliper on a mark1 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I recently had a driver side front brake caliper seize whilst driving home (Mk1 TD 1.8 Mondeo, N reg). I thought the car seemed sluggish and was pulling to one side whilst braking. When I got out the front wheel was red hot, I at this point realized what must have happened. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 1999 2.0 SRi - gearbox problem 23 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Even when the engine is cold, I can easily change gears when the engine isn't running but as soon as I start the engine, the gearbox starts acting up. The clutch pedal lies slightly below the brake pedal as if it needed the cable adjusted (I'm assuming the pedal should be slightly above the brake pedal) but this model doesn't have a cable - it's all hydraulic. The fluid level is normal - the clutch and brakes share the fluid reservoir so I would have thought a problem here would affect the brakes as well. -
Almera warning light 25 Jul 2003 (Forum)
We rang the Nissan dealer, but they just said to bring the car in and leave it with them...not really what we want to do if possible cos she needs the car for work. I've checked the brake fluid level, and that is at the max mark. So my suspicion is that its a low brake pad lining warning? Can anyone confirm if my suspicions are correct? Also, am I allowed to replace the brake pads myself...or must it be done by the main dealer as the car is still under warranty? -
High pitch noise when bearing right? 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I doubt though the disc is warped as there is no noise when braking. Any suggestions please. -
will dissabled ABS fail MOT???? 21 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I've had several occasions when i've tried to brake and all I've got is one front wheel (which is ABSing like mad 'cos it's the only one that's braking). The ABS modulators are belt operated from the driveshaft, there is a modulator on each side of the gearbox. -
Auto box technique 26 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Since then I use this method when manoeuvring in a car with an auto 'box. Before engaging gear, press the brake firmly with the left foot to lock all the wheels, then you don't get that clonk as the torque convertor tries to move the car against the handbrake. Still pressing the brake, set the revs to about 1200 or a fast tickover, then release the brake gently, like a conventional clutch. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.6 ABS wire removal 29 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1.6 petrol Focus with rear drum brakes, and in changing the brake shoes am having difficulty in removing the ABS wire. I have taken the bolt out from under the wire , but it seems reluctant to come out. What am I doing wrong? -
ABS - stupid question 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
How does an ABS system tell the difference between a panic braking scenario (ie, I've got both feet on the pedal as hard as I can with the intention of locking all four wheels), and being stationary (so no wheels turning either). Since the ABS obviously doesn't release the brakes while I'm waiting at traffic lights, how does it know that I'm not moving? -

xr2i lights/electrical problem 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Bit strange this one. When I press the brake pedal my headlights come on and when I switch my lights on my brake lights don't work? I've visually checked all the wiring in the boot and all looks ok. I guess it's a short somewhere but I'm not sure where to look. -
NA - Internal oil resistance of ""steel" brake hose? 18 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Seem to be a dissenting voice ( surely not) on a boating forum about the use of a motorcycle brake hose to replace a hard steel oil line on Yanmar 1GM and 2GM marine diesel engines. https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f54/2gm20f-oil-feed-fix-273982.html#post3957580 I think this is quite risky, because these hoses wont be built for and tested long term with hot mineral oil, but I dont actually know what the flexible core is usually made of, or how much this varies.
