  • Laguna Carminat Sat Nav. 11 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The dealer cannot get one from scouting around he says, the previous owner took it out the car (why?, why?) and it seems that I cannot get one from Renault as it doesn't have a part No. and they aren't printed anyway. Now I have got the hang of most of the system, but not all of it. I am thinking of the future re-sale here as well. Where can I get the manual for my sat nav/cd/radio?
  • Cam belt record? 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Like most people here I am careful not to exceed cambelt age or mileage limits, for example changing my wife's 306 1.8 belt on buying the car at only 15k miles because it was already eight years old. However, a quick check with Dad confirms that my Mother's Volvo 440 GLi with Renault 1.7 lump, owned by her since new in 1989 is still on its original cambelt 80k miles and sixteen and a half years later ! Recommended change interval is 40k miles or 5 years. Am tempted to whip the cover off and look at the condition of belt and teeth.
  • Coolant Change - Volvo S40 1.9 TD SE 17 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Apart from a normal service I want to change the coolant, my nearest Volvo dealer is over a 30 mile round trip away so I popped in to Halfords and brought some Anti freeze which is red in colour and is a silicate free organic acid formula to Volvo / Renault 41-01-001 standard. As I'm going to go for a complete rad flush - can I replace green with red?? On another site I been advised that the colour isn't important just flush well - but I don't want to make an expensive mistake Thanks and regards
  • diesel estate for £4-5k? 4 Oct 2005 (Forum)
For some reason I am put off focuses or anything french (bad experience with a xsara a while back) but not for any really good reason. Can anyone give me some decent pointers? • Jewels in India 5 Sep 2005 (Forum)
These transpired to be, hiding under tarps, in a small garage a SS 100 Jaguar 2 1/2 DHC that was in stunning condition, rubbing shoulders with a Austin 7 Ruby and a special order Mercedes 180 made for a maharaja together with a Renault 5 and a 2 CV. It really made my motoring day :-). Thought i would share. Bye bye
  • Vehicle identity check 18 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I recently bought a Renault Clio and after sending off the log book I recieved a letter from DVLA. The letter stated that according to their records the car has been recorded as been scrapped or written off by an insurance company.
  • Megane 1996 - radio replacement 12 May 2005 (Forum)
The Megane is supplied with a custom fit radio, but there seem to be an almost infinite variety of Philips radios fitted to Renaults that all look identical. Can anyone shed any light on the differences. The reason for asking is that the radio on my 1996 model has packed up (estimate to fix "over £100"). I have been looking for a replacement, but the particular model that was fitted to mine seems as rare as hens teeth.
  • clio 182 xenons 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
i have taken it back to renault, they say they have fixed it. but i dont think that they have. my megane , when its dark, the xenons come on, and kinda move up and down to adjust themselves to be the right height. but in the clio, they come on, and just point at the floor. pretty dangerous on the motorway, as i couldnt see much in front, whilst driving at 70mph. whilst my megane sport tourer, when u go uphill, they move, you can actually hear them going, (like a mechanical whiring as they move up and down) you pull up behind a car and pull up sharpish, and the lights move up as the front end dips down, then when the car front moves up, the headlights move down. i assumed this is how the clio would be. but they dont. any idea's?
  • Thanks for the tip HJ! 20 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I was prompted to look at short term contract hire deals following HJ's response to one of the queries in his Telegraph column last Saturday. A bit of quick searching found a 1 year contract on a new Renault Scenic 1.5dci Dynamique for £139 per month! My wife's current Scenic is getting a bit long in the tooth and I've got a fair bit of spending to do coming up....new tyres, timing belt, MOT, tax etc etc...
  • Noise remains after 8 months. Megane. 1 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I will spell this out very simply. Car : Renault Megane 1.6 16v RT Sport Year : 99V Miles : 33k Replacement parts so far to try and solve problem : Both driveshafts and CV joints, Engine mounts, gearbox mounts. The noise from the front end sounds like a rumble and is there when moving off, and when moving at any speed.
  • What caused Clio Auto Warning Light? 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I've read the discussion from 2002 about the auto electrical warning light coming on intermittantly for no reason, as it describes exactly what's happening to my Renault 5. The thread ended with it being booked in for investigation, but there was no explanation or resolution given so if anyone knows what the problem turned out to be could they please let me know?
  • Focus to Clio? 8 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi all, I currently drive a '99 'S' Focus 1.8 petrol which I've had since Jan 2001 and which has on the whole been reliable and nice to own. I am thinking of downsizing to a brand new Renault Clio 1.6 16V Dynamique+ 3dr, and have seen the Clio on offer as low as £8499. The reason for me downsizing is basically that I rarely carry back seat passengers and I want something more nippy and manouverable. :-) I would stick with Ford but I don't like the new Fiesta.
  • Rear-ended, need witness 21 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I have just been rear-ended in my QX at 5.30pm today, Tuesday 19th August 2003, on Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach near the BMW/Renault yard, by an agressive and unreasonable motorist (He would not even give me his address, despite asking twice. However, he is bigger than me and quite aggressive so I did not argue) It was a black, blackened windows car, with an unreadable plate.
  • A real specialist ! 1 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The garage concerned has an advert in our local rag boldy boasting: "Ultimate Sales & Service" Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, MG, Vauxhall, VW, Fiat, Alfa Romeo Citroen & Volvo... SPECIALISTS. It's nice to know her car's being dealt with by people who specialise in so few marques and hence really know the vehicles inside out.
  • Possible dead cylinder head gasket? 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 1999 Renault Clio 1.6 Si and have noticed a few worrying symptoms. It\'s done about 53000. I suspect a dead cylinder gasket, and would be grateful for some advice. - Slow loss of cooling water. Yes - topping it up with additive. - Bubbling noise behind dash on accelleration. - Dried residue below join between sections of engine, below the exhaust outlet, between 2nd and 3rd blocks.
  • stop that clio! 10 Mar 2003 (Forum)
On futher inspection i found that there was a broken spring in the offside rear shoe assembly which i identified in haynes manual as the "adjuster strut bolt retaining spring". Before i go to Renault for a new one does anyone know if this is a common fault on clios? And has the spring possibly snapped due to a fault somewhere else in the brake shoe assembly. Im worried that i may fit the new spring and adjust the brakes up only for the same problem to reoccur later on.
  • Megane Scenic RX4 24 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Another customer's just told me of the same problem." The upshot was that the SM was going to speak to Renault about it. Something was mentioned about possible problems with the 4WD. Haven't heard any more yet, but I was wondering if any Backroomers (or HJ) had heard of anything similar?
  • Brand Loyalty 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The actual score of the 25 cars we have owned is: Mini 2 Triumph 1 Fiat 4 Vauxhall 8 Audi 2 BMW 1 Subaru 1 Citroen 1 Volvo 2 Renault 2 Peugeot 1 So all you profilers out there, what does that say about me?
  • car insurance question 12 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I have to change my insurance over at the end of the month when I take on ownership of the Astra. For the Renault 5, I was paying around 145 pounds pa TPFT. The cheapest quote I've had on the Astra 1.7D is around 200 pounds. However, my existing company has quoted either an extra 83 pounds to carry on my policy until its renewal in July (which sounds a lot just for a change of car for 8 months), or I could take out a whole new year's policy for 228 pounds.
  • New Laguna 2 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I told him to watch out for punctures as the utterly useless tyre pressure monitors make them impossible to fix. Utter junk in the old Renault style, god only knows why the owners all look so smug.
