Buying my Second(ish) Car - Medium Hatchback 10 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I'm looking at 2007-2010 models based on what I can afford (I don't really want finance, I'd rather buy it outright straight away). My shortlist is essentially: Ford Focus Audi A3 BMW 1 Series Has anyone got any other suggestions (please don't say Golf)? For some reason, I've also set my heart on having cruise control. Bad idea? -

Mazda 6 TS2 petrol - Mazda 6 intermittent rubbing sound front 7 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I can feel but not hear a slight knocking feeling, sometimes it can be felt when going over a bump or speed hump but mainly when pulling off of drive or stop/start at traffic lights. Had a similar feel on my old Audi when the anti roll bar bushes deteriorated so wondering if it may be a bush or something. Havent been under it yet to see the suspension setup so not sure what to look for. Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated! -
Lexus, BMW - Coming out of a company car to an allowance 1 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I've currently got a company car ('59 Audi A3 Sportback) that I'm giving back this Friday to move onto a car allowance scheme mainly for better business mileage rates. Temporarily I will be driving our '52 1.6 Focus but that will shortly have to go to my Wife as we have a baby on the way in June and will need a second car. -
Which Impact Wrench? 24 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hey all, I have an old Discovery and Audi 80 which keep me fairly busy in terms of maintenance and I'm sick to death of spending 3/4's of the job time just trying to undo that pink fluffy dice of a nut/bolt. I'm thinking a decent impact wrench will help ease the pain but there are loads of models out there and I was hoping for some advice. -
BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - 08 3.0 325D oil consumption 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I have a tub of Castrol Magnatec 10/40 which has been sitting on a shelf in the garage unused for about 4 years because my previous Audi didn't use any oil at all between services. Should I still use that ? Maybe I should just have bought a banger and it would have been less of a worry. Advice gratefully received. -
Volkswagen Golf VI - VW Golf VI 2.0 GT 13 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Yes I understand it's a GT with all the ramifications that badge impiies - but should it make a car unbearable which this undoubtedly is? The only car I've ever driven with worse suspension was an early "sportily" sprung Audi TT. I assume the GT is a "warm" hatch? I dread to think what the "hot" variant would be like. -
Another vague "what car should I buy" post! 5 Jul 2009 (Forum)
(I like the slightly older models with the boot spoiler, not the new shapes, and this also helps with prices). Basically, does anyone have any suggestions for anything else I could consider? Some form of Audi...? Any input to help my vague ramblings much appreciated... Thanks, Giles -
Which new diesel automatic? 5 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I am getting together a short list of suitable cars and would welcome comments, both positive and negative, from owners of the following cars: Audi A3 Sportback 140 S-tronic By the time the options are added it gets quite expensive. BMW 1 Series 118d auto I have heard that the run flats give a harsh ride and that the interior quality isn’t great. -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.6 Warning 12 May 2009 (Forum)
A cautionary tale. Bought 04 Ford C-Max CVT auto (1.6 TdCi) from a franchised Vauxhall dealer. Ex-motability car 18,000 miles, three years old, full... -
advice on 4x4 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The car that I would really like, although again not the best off road but probably acceptably so, is the Audi Allroad 3.0d but they are very expensive. Any cars that I should think about? (I think that the Nissan X Trail is going to be too small). -
Waiting lists for cars... 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
A mate of mine has had a succession of BMW X5 3.0d models and seems to have to order 12 mths in advance and even to be on good terms with the garage to get one..Is this a freak occurence just with this model? I am interested in whether if you go into the average BMW/Audi/Lexus/Merc dealer do they actually have "stock" cars that you could buy there and then or is it all "build to order". I read somewhere that all BMWs were done that way so they never had unsold stock sitting about...hence their famed profitability as a maker...then I read that in Germany BMW punt out a ton of vehs to stock there in all sorts of the usual sales wheezes and indulge in shifting metal like everyone else. -
New car with more poke... Suggestions? 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I'm also thinking about some smaller cars - maybe the Honda Civic type R, Ford Focus St, Alfa 156, Audi A3 / A4, but not really looked into these yet. Probably still a bit too expensive. Anyway, any other suggestions / comments on these or other cars much appreciated... Cheers, Giles -
Galaxy Air Con 22 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I have never been a fan of the system used on this vehicle. It is complicated and fiddly to use when you're driving. To those who are familiar with the VW/Audi set up, it is similar to that, ie. an LCD display, one showing a symbol for the rear of the car, the other for the front. Air ccon is activated by pressing 'Auto' and normal ventilation is activated by pressing the 'econ' button. -
About to buy a new Volvo? 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
You will not find a 1 year old Diesel S60 at a dealer for anything like as cheap, and this makes it a terrific bargain for those of you considering a BMW 3, Merc C Class, Audi A4 or even a Volvo S40! I hope this helps someone. Cheers! Gavin -
New BMW feature ;-) 9 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Initially ********tronic will be available on the forthcoming 316i and 318i models only, but the system is expected to become standard fitment for all models in the smaller 1-series range within a year. Other German makers are expected to follow BMW's lead, including Audi who is poised to make certain versions of the A4 available with a rival system dubbed 'Pushy**** Plus'." (edited in deference to the concerns of our dear mods!) Sniff also show the proposed dashboard button. -
Vauxhall Omegas the end? 4 Jan 2003 (Forum)
BUT I hear the Omega is to be no more according to the Sunday Times, Prince Charles is not getting another one but an Audi apparently as Omegas are not made any more. Outcry as he has said buy british food and not buying an Omega, do they know it is built in Germany! I know the current Omega is to be replaced and have kept an eye for what that is. -
Honda Legend 2.7 12 Feb 2002 (Forum)
It's Monday morning and another weekend spent checking out the sub-£1000s for brother-in-law who wants something smart which can sit on the drive for a few days in between the odd 40-50 miles paid excursion for work, plus the usual weekend visiting in-laws. The last 5-cylinder Audi Coupe I found him, lasted 4-5 years. Sunday I looked over an outwardly smart 1988 Honda Legend 2.7 coupe at £995 (dropped to £850 because I was the third of the weekend to look at it). All the electrical bits work (AC/sunroof, cruise control, seats, mirrors etc) and it is outwardly a smart silver car with a few minor bumper scuffs. -
Warning! Volvo & Chrysler a/c 16 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Other makes that have had the same problem, but now seem to have fixed it, are Ford Galaxy & variants, and Audi A4's. HJ: You mught like to add this to your comments against Chryslers. -
2 weeks in the US - observations motoring & other 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
First was a car similar to mine (A3 170 TDi quattro) and BIL's (BMW 520d M sport.) First problem - no diesels offered on either of these two cars on Audis and BMW's US websites. So we compared an A3 3.2 quattro and a BMW 525 with similiar levels of trim. Cost of Audi c.$32k, in the UK £29k, thus like for like at present exchange rates US cost is £16k.....a saving of £13k.
