  • S60 2.4T v V70 2.4T legroom and boot 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
All other aspects of the car, and engine choice, we are entirely happy with. I cannot defend (2). She is right, especially compared to the V70 which has a longer floorpan, and even our current Vectra Estate, but it is not often that we carry adults in the rear.
  • Rover Mini MPi - Car restoration poorly completed. 28 Apr 2015 (Forum)
The company involved owned by an individual who advertises himself and has built a long standing business on mini restorations has badly let us down with poor workmanship, items physically removed from the car rather than refitting them even though they worked prior to removal and items poorly fitted and or not working. Now I know any car that has gone through a restoration will have teathing problems, and I accept this and understand, but unable to select 1st or reverse without the gears grinding ( a new clutch was paid for as the other had oil contamination but selected gears perfectly) Headlight adjuster motors not refitted and the moulding in the headlamp bowls sawn off and covered with white insulation tape (these worked 100% before restoration) a brand new carpet bought from Newton Commercials for the car year and model, being hacked about and fitted with gaps and nothing lining up correctly.
  • Seat Leon FR TDI - To replace or not? A diesel dilema 28 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I have been scared by stories of injector failure, here and elsewhere, in the 2.0 PD 170 engine which is in this car. My intention was to keep the car to 6 yrs old and replace in Sep 2012. As a family we run two cars, and pay for them over 3 yrs, the idea being we are only ever paying for one car at a time. However, the scares over injector failure and making me wonder whether I should change sooner.
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 (1985 - 2000) - New Motor - something for the weekend 12 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Thankfully that shouldn't be too hard - around here garage rates are a whopping 27 euros an hour and every workshop is teaming with old men that have all grown up with these cars. Plus, with no DPF or DMF to worry about, I don't think I'll be losing much sleep. Heidi is now asleep under her protective cover. She may venture out and take the kids to school one day this week, but only if it's not raining...
  • Big car with good economy 22 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I need an economical car that will cover approx 40,000 miles per year. It is a company car BUT I pay for all the fuel so it needs to be economical. It also needs a large boot as I have a small child and I also carry a lot of photographic gear around for a small business I am setting up.
  • Indestructable Peugeot 309 22 Sep 2006 (Forum)
What an engine! Just to prove how reliable the car is, it has just returned from a tour around North Devon, Exmoor, Somerset and Porlock Hill, although fully laden, Porlock Hill was 'interesting'. I suppose that the main reason why the car is still reliable is that I cover about 15 to 18K miles per year and mostly on motorways to and from work.
  • Peugeot 308 CC - Faulty engine control system 17 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I have a 2015 Peugeot 308 1.2 PureTech e-THP Allure Hatchback Semi Automatic.(25401 miles on clock). Car had oil leak last Aug 2019 and has been driving well since. On Tues was going to work and after driving only 5 mins the engine warning sign came up to together with Service sign. Manage to get back home as I was only round the corner contacted RAC who check car over and reported the following: Engine start fine but with EMS light on.
  • Ford Puma - Puma - small cat report 11 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Other stuff - I’ve had two people comment very positively about looks, not mine sadly but Harvey’s in car parks and he still looks and feels bigger than he is. Oh and as he’s going to cover quite a few miles good to see service intervals of 18k miles.
  • Vauxhall Astra 1.4 - Rejection of 2 year old Astra 1.4 4 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It was a bit sluggish comming out of the M6 toll when I collected it but once up to motoray speed seemed OK. The dealer stated it was down to me to get the car back to where I purchased it, 200 miles away, which I said I would do if they paid for it to get there. I was happy for them to fix it and I would cover the cost of collecting or they were given the option of getting a local dealer to fix it.
  • Vauxhall - Camshaft snapped on Vauxhall Tigra 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I am quite shocked at having such a major thing go wrong on a well looked after, full serviced and still relatively newish car but if this is just a wear and tear thing then I'll feel slightly less hacked off at the cost and inconvenience! A couple of friends have suggested writing to vx to see where i get with a part recovery of the costs, despite the car being out of warranty - if anyone has any advice or wisdom to share on this then I'd be really grateful.
  • Citroen Berlingo van 1.6HDI - Used Citroen Van warranty problem! 25 Aug 2011 (Forum)
They told me that the repair was not coverd by my policy because they thought the part had failed because of oil stravation inside the turbo. This being wear and tear. My policy document, however lists the turbo unit has being covered! I complained about this the the RAC warranty deptartments senior engineer, who told me this failure was common place in all cars using my engine type and was a flaw in the basic design of the engine!
  • X300 interior bulb replacement 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Remove tab from door latch, and remove the screw. Withdraw latch surround. Hold wood panel and ease forward towards the front of the car so it unclips and then remove. Remove two black screws from the trim panel (front also remove trim clip at leading edge of door trim) and remove panel bul lifting upwards. Front door remove the one screw at front end of interior door pull having first removed the covering tab.
  • Toyota RAV4 - New Car - Swirl Marks 8 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Following recent talk on rejecting cars, I noticed the 'Ask HJ' question from a chap who bought a new black RAV4, paid for ceramic paint treatment and 3 days later (first time in the sun) found it covered in very bad swirl marks and 'looks terrible'.
  • Subaru Impreza GX 2.0 AWD - No Fault accident - Insurance co. write off car 26 Mar 2012 (Forum)
The underwriters are sending an engineer round to inspect my car, but have also said that it is likely to be written off.  I have asked them what market value they place on my car.  They confirmed that they use Glasses guide, but again low mileage of my car will not be considered.
  • At least you don't need to worry about.. 12 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The problem is not necessarily the practice of refurbishing the cars; it is whether the cars are identified as being salvaged. It begins when insurance companies rule cars a total loss and make settlement payments to dealers or private owners. They, in turn, sell the vehicles cheap at auction, after which the car's title is branded as a "flood" or "salvage" vehicle.
  • Skoda Fabia - Skoda Fabia frequent brake discs and pads problems 28 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I'm loathe to take it in to get them replaced yet again only for it to happen again in another 6 months.  Edit: also worth noting that my work car park is nicknamed "the gravel pit" because the surface is - I assume - an old gravel pit and covered in chalky stones and dust. I am wondering if it could be causing small stones to get lodged in the brake discs?
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - '52 1.6 SOHC Full Beam /flash not working 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I call on your expertise I have yet another issue with my Astra, just recently the full beam (forward on, and flash) have stopped working I parked the car overnight at work, whilst on a business trip recently where temperatures dropped down to about -4, and when I picked up at night the following evening I started to drive my car, and put it into full beam ?
  • Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - Suspension issue and to replace with sport or not 10 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Indeed I was pleased to see that the drivers door placard which gives recommended tyre pressures quotes the rim and tyre combination that I have on the new wheels. Anyways I got a puncture due to a screw through this tyre, and when I threw the car on the lift I noticed that the wheel was hard to turn. The calliper was binding a little, but after a generous welt with a hammer it seemed to free up, however then I noticed that the wheel was fouling a little on the wheel arch cover just at the top of the spring.
  • Citroen C2 - Twice bitten.... 18 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Rang dealer - they said the would fix it. I said OK BUT I want an engineers report on the repaired car - salesman agrees. Returned car on trailer again and three weeks later they say its ready. I instruct ACE Engineers to go inspect the car but the dealer refuses to have the vehicle inspected on site.
  • Accused of accident stressing me out 1 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I would have had three children in my car at the time of the accident and there would have been damage to my car as the apparent damage to their car is to wing, bonnet, bumper and indicator. The police were contacted by them and a statement taken the day after the accident but why did they never contact me?
