How long will it last...? 2 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I would like to know how long the main components on my 2000X Seat Arosa 1.7 Diesel will last. I drive 500 miles a week, cruise at 60 mph @ 2200 rpm along fast A-roads only (no town driving), never thrash from cold, get 78.5 MPG every tankfull, change oil+filter every (semi-synthetic) 5000 miles. Full Seat history +cambelt changes. -
Escort cold start problem 27 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Does this sound correct? Am worried about engine wear, both on the initial high revs and the delay before driving off. Would value any advice. Also is here an alternative to the main dealer fitting a PCU. -
Drinking & Driving ... 27 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Unfortunate to read that one of the regulars has been caught. Also, TerryB, the "there but for the Grace of God" remark rings true. Living in a land where... -
VW New Polo rumbling noise. 24 May 2003 (Forum)
At first I thought it might be tyre noise (Firestone F-590) but it seems too heavy a noise so possibly is drive shaft related. A Polo 1.2 which I hired for a test drive also had the same noise, which I thought was just a problem with that particular car. Has anybody else experienced this? -
Even More Stupid Insurance Question! 19 May 2003 (Forum)
The insurance has been transferred over to the new car and her old car will be stored off the road until she manages to sell it. My question is this... My insurance allows me to drive other cars on a third party basis. Can I legally drive the Fiesta using my insurance to get it to a garage to MOT it (it runs out at the end of this month and it'd be easier to sell with 12 months ticket on it)? -
Good old public transport 16 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Nice to see we have such a flexable rail network. Keep driving your cars folks! -
Very heavy clutch 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I recently had an Audi A3 1.6 as a courtesy car when my Audi 80 S2 was in being looked at. I was amazed at how light the clutch was and also how smooth the gears changed. It was a joy to drive. When I went to collect my car, I found it difficult to drive as the clutch was so heavy. The gearbox is very stiff meaning that fast gear changes are virtually impossible. Its not something the garage has done as it has always been like this since I've had the car. -
A Mini Adventure 15 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Salesman comes running and across and tells me I shouldn't sit in the cars without asking. Alarm can't be turned off because the car battery is flat. I ask to test drive one and am told there's a two day notice period for test drives. I gaze across the empty showroom, smile politely and walk away. The end (of their chances of selling me a car). Roll on Tescos, Sainsburys etc. selling cars -
Eyesight tests - Horrifying 11 Jan 2003 (Forum)
A staggering 700 of the drivers [23%] failed a basic vision test which was offered free of charge as part of the opticians campaign to educate motorists regarding the dangers of driving with poor eyesight. Full article: http://www.racfoundation.org/releases/191102rac.htm Just how frightening is this - I think it explains a great deal of the driving I see around the country. Surely this is an area where we can all agree that new legislation would make sense. -
Golf, Leon, or Volvo 8 Feb 2002 (Forum)

"Economy" settings 23 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Has the economy setting worked well on other cars? Incidentally, I was surprised at the low m.p.h. figures as I nearly always drive up to speed limits when it is safe to do so. -
Dead Battery Question 29 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Today, the battery is almost completely dead. Have I killed the battery, or does it just take a very long drive to charge up when completely dead? Cheers Allie -
Automatic Cutting Off 3 Jul 2001 (Forum)
, I have to release the accelerator, and them very gently start to accelerate again before the vehicle will drive normally. But in Londons slow moving traffic it will always cut off, when I have to start again, high rev, and drive off. At speed the problem seems to disappear. Any suggestions for this problem, and its cure. -
Nissan fuel capacity 6 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I have recently been driving a 1997 Nissan Primera, the question someone may be able to help with is the capacity of the fuel tank. I drive about 750 miles per week so need to fill up often, but from an indicated empty to full I cannot put in more then £33 worth of petrol. -
90 or 110 TDI? 22 May 2001 (Forum)
I have just had the situation where I have been to look at a car, and was told it was the 110 model, but after a 35 mile drive to see / test drive the car I found the engine to be very flat in power for a 110 (either had a hard life or it was a 90). Are there any visable signs or engine numbers I can ask the owner for before going to view the vehicle? -
Extended Test Drive of a BMW 520d 9 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I have recently had a BMW 520d SE on a 3 day extended test drive and here are my thoughts. To put a bit of background to this, my company car is due for renewal and I had originally short listed a Merc E and a 5 series for test drives. Unfortunately the E has now been removed from my list so although I wasn’t that keen, I decided to drive an Audi A S-Line as a comparison to the BMW 5 series. -
Citroen C3 8 year old - Car insurance putting us in harms way to save cash 29 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The insurance garage agent said it was Safe to drive, even with no spare and after the crash and we should have no problems, irony would prove him wrong. The car never drove the same since the accident, we waited 12 days while driving with a spare and took the car to our own citreon garage, as it was acting well funny and a warning light came up on the dash an engine managment warning. -
Are cars just TOO fast? 26 May 2005 (Forum)
People will always object to new things introduced for safety reasons. Like seatbelts. Like compulsory driving tests. Like driving sober. Like not using a mobile while driving. But sooner or later they get the idea that they do not have a blanket right to do as they please and hang the consequences. Well the same should be true of out and out speed. -
Joy! 17 Apr 2025 (Forum)
The 1.4 diesels available early doors were hardy enough but pretty pointless when the sweet little Daihatsu 3cyl petrol can do 65mpg plus with ease and drives so much better. -
Parking contention and garage usage 12 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I've applied for planning from the local council to build an extension to the home, and part of this was to also check for potential Party Wall matters with the detached 2011 build next door, which I found and advised that there were no notifiable works to the property adjoining owner. The neighbour has a drive and garage, and two vehicles. One of which is parked on the drive that they use regularly and the other they have taken a space on the road, encroaching two spaces, where they have ample room to park over their drive.
