  The new engine will be unveiled in at the Auto China show in Shanghai under the bonnet of the all-new Ford Mondeo . The 1.5-litre engine features turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing and has been designed to be even more fuel-efficient and offer high levels of engine refinement, quietness and performance. The new aluminium-block, twin-cam 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine will feature some of the innovations introduced on the 1.0-litre EcoBoost, such as an integrated exhaust manifold.

  The 1686cc 16v 80PS four-cylinder ECOTEC turbo diesel, with two overhead camshafts and common rail direct fuel injection, produces a maximum torque of 170 Nm and a top speed of 108mph in saloon and hatchback models. Combined cycle fuel consumption is 61.4mpg (58.9mpg for estate). The added aerodynamic drag and roll resistance features in the highly-successful Astra ECO increase fuel efficiency to 64.2mpg – and raise top speed to 111mph.

  First releases of the new Compact will be powered either by a British-built 1.6 litre 116bhp Valvetronic engine or the straight six 192bhp engine now designated 325ti.   has launched its 2014 car reliability survey, and those who participate are in with the chance of winning £2500 – the equivalent of a year’s free fuel for an average family car. Last year 47,572 people responded to the Which? Car Survey, which found that the highest average repair costs were for the Land Rover Discovery 3, and that the Renault Megane Sport Tourer (2003-2009) had the lowest customer satisfaction rating.

  Its 3.0 TDI Quattro is a stylish and practical vehicle which keep an eye on the environment with impressive carbon efficiency figures. Audi has revealed that the car cuts carbon emissions and fuel consumption by more than 20 per cent. It added that the motor runs on an "extremely lightweight" engine - a 69 kg battery and a 40 kg motor. Audi commented that the vehicle combines higher power and torque with economy of fuel and lower carbon emissions.

  Curios: Citroen 2CV Sahara 15 Jan 2015 (News)
  But Citroen reckoned a four-wheel drive version was a good idea, the end result being the 2CV Sahara of 1961 – which, instead of using a conventional all-wheel drive set-up, was fitted with an extra engine in the boot to ensure all-round traction. The two engines were completely independent units with their own gearboxes, fuel tanks and starter buttons. On flat surfaces just one of the engines could be used to save fuel, and on rough terrain the second engine (driving the rear wheels) could be engaged. To accommodate the extra engine, the floorpan was modified, while the suspension was also uprated to handle the hard work.
