  • Ford Fiesta 1999 1.25 - Fiesta with aircon..removing heater matrix 25 Nov 2014 (Forum)
hi....I want to check my heater matrix for leaks.....but the car also has aircon. These aircon pipes also enter via the heater's cover under the bonnet. Is it possible to remove the cover, and aircon pipes, without de-pressurising the aircon system? [To get the heater matrix out]
  • Cheaper Insurance Cover? 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
On the basis that you are 'never to old to learn'...I have been motoring for in excess of 45 years...I have only recently discovered that it is actually cheaper with the majority of car insurers to have an additional driver on the policy e.g. a spouse or other 'mature' relative who has a clean driving record irrespective that they may never actually drive your car. Only found this out yesterday following an on-line quote when I discovered that it was £28 less if my wife was a named driver.

  • is there a breakdown service to suit me ? 4 Aug 2008 (Forum)
my partner and i run 3 older cars (88,89,91) and feel i ought to have some kind of basic break down cover not intrested in any home start or fancy ad ons , all i want is one policy that would cover both drivers and all cars in the event we break down away from home id like a service that will tow us home and not to a garage as i do all my own repairs /maintenence does such a service exist for sensible money?
  • Insurance premiums 19 Dec 2000 (Forum)
It seems to me that my insurance premiums increase yearly. It also seems to me that the amount the company would pay out to cover the cost of replacing the car if needed decreases. Shouldn't my premiums therefore decrease in line with that? If I pay (arbitrarily) £500 in year one, and they would pay out (arbitrarily) £8000 if the car is written off, why next year do I pay £550 but they would only pay £6500 (or whatever).

  • Mazda 323 (1998 - 2003) - Insurance declined 9 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I just rang my insurer to change the car on my policy and to my surprise they said to me they can't cover me and my wife on our new car which is a Mazda 323 TD insurance group 7. According to the chap I had on the other line, the car has very high insurance group so they can't cover anyone under 30 and we both are!
  • Insurance 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi everyone. I have three questions regarding insurance. 1. Which companies allow one policy with two cars on it? Do these constitute value for money in terms of claiming etc? 2. Can a policy be tailored so the value of the car you provide is the actual amount you are awarded in the event of a claim. This might be a car for example worth more to oneself than to the outside world. 3.
  • I scratched a car 10 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I scratched somebody's car today. I left my phone number and my first name and insurance company name. I have got the first name of the scratched car's driver and her tel. number. I just offered to cover payment for scratch repair.
  • Need short term off-the-road insurance 12 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I don't need the DVLA-required third-party insurance, because I won't be driving it after I have brought it home, but after a bit of quick searching I haven't found anyone selling that sort of policy. I know that it used to exist, because my father once insured a car in that way while it was garaged for a few months, and I can see several situations in which people might still want that sort of cover. The best I have found so far is Norwich Union's short-term cover, but because it is designed for actually driving a car it works out a bit expensive (over £100 for 28 days).

  • VED and insured names 29 Dec 2005 (Forum)
this from the DVLA: "The insurance must be valid when the licence comes into force and indicate that it covers the use of the vehicle by the licence applicant. If the cover is unclear you may be asked to provide written confirmation." If a married couple have a car registered in the wifes name and the policy is in the husbands name as main driver (because he has the NCB and wife has none) and wife is a named driver on the policy......everything will be ok, yes?
  • Sludge 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
My wife's 1.6 8 valve, '97, 55,000 mile Astra is carrying quite alot of cream sludge, in the rocker cover and also on the dipstick which suggests pretty well covered in the crankcase. With just the pottering type mileage she does it is to be expected - but should I be concerned about it? Is there an easy way to get rid of it, such as me using the car for my long journey runs or should I use an engine flush or......
  • VW Polo 1.4 - Where do I stand? 30 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Seemingly in excellent condition. Approx £3.4K. We have the RAC Gold 3 Month Warranty. I've never bought or owned a car before. We've had the car for one month now and have encountered several problems: - The coil pack went on the motorway and we needed to have this replaced. Warranty covered 50% of repair but still cost us £157. - Noticed a ticking noise so took it to very reputable garage.
  • Car insurance problem 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I found a company who do 1 day policies but they won't cover modified cars. Also I have a trailer for the Williams and my parents car to tow with it but there insurer will only cover me for a few times a year so adding this car to my own policy when I need to tow the Williams would be handy.
  • Getting short-term insurance quickly 17 May 2008 (Forum)
However, I now find that it would be really useful to have the car this weekend, starting saturday midday, and I wondered what my options were for getting cover at short notice. It would probably suit me best just to have a few days coverage, if that is possible, because I won't need the car again for another month.

  • Business Use and Insurance 28 Aug 2003 (Forum)
As far as my insurance company is concerned is this business use or can I claim that I am using my car to simply travel to my place of work? My assumption is that since travelling to the local factory every morning is covered (I always ask if travelling to work is covered by the policy) then so is travelling to Scotland when I need to work in the Scottish factory.
  • 2008 Mazda 2 Sport 1.5 - Should I service my car ? 4k miles last year 8 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Hi All, Looking for advice. I have a 2008 Mazda2 that has covered just over 30k miles. I have been running the car without issue for the last three years, and have covered about 8000 miles in total, short journeys to work etc. I have put the car through its annual service for the last two years as required by Mazda at a Mazda garage.
