hi, Its a TD and has always had difficulty starting if i don't drive it for a few days in cold weather, but today it didn't start despite me taking it for a 25min drive yesterday. Whilst struggling to start the central locking was locking and unlocking randomly. The electrics have been temperamental as well i.e back windscreen wiper, sun roof, central locking despite the fuses being fine.

  • At WAR with the Motorist 29 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The new barriers to elderly motorists will also include an eyesight exam, but they will not have to re-take their practical driving test.' Increasing the age for taking the test and now this. Looks like we will just be allowed a tiny band between to drive before being pushed out on to the festering mess that is British public transport.
  • One rule for us... 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
IIRC HM the Queen does not have a passport or a driving licence. Nor do her cars have registration plates. Is this a privilege exclusive to the reigning monarch? Did HM take driving lessons and get a licence at some point then stop having a licence on ascending to the throne?

  • Arnhem Trip Next Year. Where to stay? 7 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Now I'm struggling to find anywhere to stay at a resonable price, all the B&Bs seem to be fully booked and I don't want to pay a huge amount for a hotel for one night. So what I was thinking would be to find a B&B on the drive back to Calais, so outside of Arnhem. Wouldn't mind driving for, say, an hour towards Calais after the show. Any suggestions? Chris
  • Supermini - which one? 30 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Nothing over 1 year old and more than 5000 miles. I want something reliable, slightly sexy looking and fun to drive. Have a budget of around 8 - 9k. Like the look of the Renault Clio and the Peugeot 207 but have heard nightmare stories regarding French reliability. Is this true? What about Fiat? Have been advised to stick to a Yaris or something but not sure how inspiring they are to drive.

  • Skoda Fabia 2 (2007 - ) - Car By Car Breakdown questions 23 Sep 2007 (Forum)
My new, 70 hp version has done about 600 miles and the only problem I can see is that the engine is too easy to redline in 1st. He says the drive is "disappointingly ordinary" but what more could be expected at the price? The drive is firm without the Ibiza's spine-shattering tendency. Like me, that car is staid and upright. Subject line tweaked by PU.
  • 1996 Honda Civic Won't Start 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Was driving my Civic this morning, started first time as always, whilst driving to the petrol station I had a quick flicker of both the immobiliser light and the engine management light and thought nothing more of it.

  • I'm going to be a cabbie! 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
As cabbies are now driving Phantoms, I think I'll give up the day job and do likewise! On a serious note, I wonder how many purchasers of used Phantoms think to ask if it's been used as a cab?? And what must the insurance be like !?!?

  • Road safety, French-style 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
This follows a year in which road deaths were said to have fallen. The explanation given in the French media is that people may be driving more carelessly at the moment because it is traditional in France to grant an amnesty on traffic offences immediately after a new president is elected, and one is due this spring. So beware if you are driving over here between now and May.
  • Two meetings in London - help! 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Next Tuesday I have a meeting on Commercial Road (near the City) at about 2:30pm for an hour or so, and then I have a meeting at about 7pm in Temple Fortune, just off the Finchley Road (A598), before it meets the North Circular I think near to Finchley Synagogue. I intend to drive down in the morning and drive back up later that evening. How should I do this. Should I park near to Temple Fortune and get trains or what? Thanks
  • Audi A4 overcooling 8 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The radiater fan always comes on even first thing in the morning when the car is cold. Yesterday morning the car cut out after about 10 minutes driving and would not start for about 15 minutes Also while driving it takes ages for the temp gauge to move to the middle (it never goes to the red) and stays and usually goes back on cold after a while.

  • Front fog lights..whats the problem? 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The main problem/danger is caused by drivers who insist on driving with side lights or no lights at all in bright sun or heavy spray conditions, but you dont hear about these drivers being fined. Unfortunately. Regards, Alf
