Leon STDi - Temp Sensor & Economy 1 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have a few questions... 1. is the sensor likely to be knackered providing an inaccurate reading back to the ECU. 2. I have had this car for four years since new and covered almost 100K miles in it. It has always taken longer to reach normal operating temperature than any of my other cars, including its VW Golf cousin with identical engine. -
Peugeot 306 Auto Struggling With Revs 14 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Or are they just trying to rip me off (I suspect that this is not the case as they told me that the previous advice from another Peugeot dealer - that the baffles in my exhaust were gone - was a load of "cobblers"). I'm not too worried about the cost to be honest as I have a warranty that *should* cover both items (if only the warranty office was open outside of Mon-Fri 9-5 - don't they realise that people still drive their cars at the weekend?) Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm not too hot when it comes to car maintenance - computers yes, cars no :o( Thanks in advance, Adam -
Chevrolet Aveo - When to call it quits? 18 Dec 2019 (Forum)
I'm fairly certain I overpaid for the car (1.5k), and minor fixes (fuel filler cover, broken boot latch among others) promised by the AutoTrader seller were not resolved despite 6 months of repeated contact on my part. The car managed 12 months of event free driving, but a monster MOT (over £700) in September this year, alongside a recent misfiring issue (likely coil pack problem, possible bigger engine problem) have meant that I have spent close to 2.5k on a car that is unlikely to resell at more than £700 (We Buy Any Car estimate). -
Nissan Almera 2001 SE+ - Insurance claim / repairs - Advice please. :) 31 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Hi all, Newbie here, hoping I can get some advice please? :) Basically, my lovely old car became a cropper with a police car last week! (If you are going to have your first car accident you have to do it in style eh? LOL!) FYI, the bumper, bonnet and a light are damaged, no internal / chassis damage. -
HGV over 3.5 tonnes and busses/coaches - Tyres age on certain commercial vhicles 1 Sep 2024 (Forum)
>#mce_temp_url# was somewhat modified in 2020 to limit the age of tyres on certain commercial vehicles but only covering the front axle and only up to 10 years. But why this half-way house?! Surely all vehicles should have a limit on tyre age and surely 10 years for commercial vehicles that do naturally work harder is a bit odd, are commercial tyres age better than a standard car tyres? -
MK6 GOLF 1.6 TDI DIESEL 2010 CAYC - Oil pooling around injectors/intermittent low oil 12 Jul 2023 (Forum)
I plan to clean it out thoroughly tomorrow and see it comes back again. Also visible oil scorch marks on top of the plastic engine cover suggesting the oil has been burnt off (strong smell of oil inside bonnet too). My question is what could be causing the oil to pool in this area and also could it be linked to the intermittent low oil pressure warning? -
Funny Place Names 7 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Given some of the recent, shall we say, less-than-light-hearted topics / 'discussions' covered in the forum, I thought it might be useful for something that might bring a smile to our faces and to help imrpove relations. Anyhoo, on my travels over the last couple of years, whether in my car, walking or cycling (including on holiday), I've come across some very 'unusual' and often very funny place names, especially of villages and hamlets. -
VW Golf SE - VW Golf MK 7 windscreen fog/haze problem 7 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Hello all, looking for some help please I recently brought a used 2014 Mk 7, VW Golf SE and it's been a great car until some slightly colder weather and mornings arrived I am having problems with the windscreen badly fogging up. A few mornings where its been roughly 8 degrees or less I get this patchy fog covering the entire windscreen which cannot be cleared by the wipers and is not on the inside of the glass either. -
Dacia Sandero - Parking charge 19 Mar 2019 (Forum)
There are obviously parking cameras in the area covering the stations parking area but how can UKCPS possibly try to imply I was in a disabled parking slot & what can I do to disprove this ridiculous affair & not pay them? Here is a link to a Google map that shows the paved taxi rank area where I stopped briefly - the station & its parking area are to the left of the picture: https://goo.gl/maps/sp2Qs6E6Z2M2 If anyone can advise I would be grateful, thank you. -
VW Tiguan 2.0TDI - Expensive engine failure! 22 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Dealer reports this as a freak occurrance, and theorises that a small stone must have caught in the pulley, to cause the v belt to shred. Dealer agreed to cover 50% of the cost as "goodwill" (the car is out of warranty), but I've still had to stump up £3600! I wrote to VW, who have looked into it, and say they've never come across anything like it, and will not add anything further to the dealer's offer as the cause was "external"(though the fact is the v belt failed for unknown reasons) I feel very hard done by, having meticulously maintained the vehicle, and feel very disturbed that something like this can happen. -
Mercedes-Benz SLK - Mercedes Extended Warranty - Worth it? 17 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I probably won't keep the car for the full 12 months (might get out of it in 6 to 9 months time) so would go the monthly payment option. Appreciate your thoughts on this? -
Fist panda 2007 petrol dynamic - Too much oil engine damage 13 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I'm not the first I know but I put too much oil in my car last week, about 1.5 cm above the max mark. I asked a mechanic friend who said no problem so I drove it 100 miles home. However now having read up a little I'm concerned I may have ruined it. It drove home fine. -
VW passat highline diesel 58 plate - Liability for failure to update vehicle software 13 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It is my opinion that the previous VW dealership whose negligence in not updating the vehicle software as required by replacing the EGR valve should cover the labour charge we have had to pay. Does anyone on this forum have any similar experiences or advice to offer? Many thanks! -
Accident claim 19 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I really need some impartial advice following an accident last week when a car hit me from behind at a roundabout. The driver admitted it was her fault and we exchanged details and I called Admiral to let them know about it. They said if I went with Albany Assistance I wouldn't need to pay any excess and my no claims wouldn't be affected. -
Stopping at Hounslow East bus stop 14 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Thread last year on this location which is now covered by CCTV enforcement and good source of income for Hounslow since many commuters are dropped off. Having been issued with FPN on 22/2/11, got notice on 2/3/11 and went back to check it out since I mistakenly thought stopping offences were red route and box junctions. -
1988 Vauxhall Astra diesel. - 1988 Vauxhall Astra diesel pump replacement. 9 Apr 2011 (Forum)
My Bosch injection pump ceased to work on my 1988 Astra estate car and I have obtained a replacemt which I am assured was working when dismantled from a similar mode,l prior to scrappage. The problem that I have is that I have never worked on a Vauxhall/Bedford diesel before and am working on memory from Ford diesel vehicles of the same type of period. -
Ford Focus 2005 TDCI 1.6L - Lack of Turbo boost 17 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, On Friday when I jumped into my Focus I noticed that the Turbo was non existant, everything else was fine it was just running like a non Turbo car. Its covered 76k miles. I must add that in the last few weeks I've had a slight oil leak. Also I changed the oil 2 weeks ago and used some oil that my brother got from his garage (probably cheap 'trade' type oil). -
1.9 TDI 115PS - Ford Galaxy Turbo Problem 20 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I am suspecting the N75 pressure control valve but having taken the the engine cover off this a.m., there is this'unit' bolted in the manifold just prior to where the manifold joins the cylinder head and underneath the front vacuum unit which is part of it, there are signs where oil/oil vapour has been leaking which would explain the smell of burning oil in the cab. -
Winter Biking. 7 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Somewhere near Dijon I stopped to put plastic bags over my gloves and boots. Then it started snowing. I was riding with my feet down, following some car tracks in the snow. I remember stopping at a bar and asking how far it was to the border - they all laughed at me and said the pass was closed - I would never make it on a motorcycle. I carried on regardless (Seems foolish now of course - no breakdown cover or credit card in those days!) -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 2005, 1.4 SRI, CV Boot 23 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hi, Earlier on today, I removed the drivers side front alloy wheel to give it a good clean as I noticed that the inner side of the alloy was covered in grease. I had assumed that it was just road grime, however upon closer inspection I have found that the clip on the end of the CV Boot has broken and that the grease on the alloy has leaked from the CV Boot.
