  • MINI ONE 6 May 2002 (Forum)
Every time I start my BMW MINI up and move off, after aprox' 3 seconds a dull clumping noise comes from the engine bay area.it would appear in my humble opinion to sound something like an electrical solenoid energising. this occurs every single starting sequence.I am not particulary concerned but am very curious as to what the cause is-any MINI owners noticed the same noise and does any one have any ideas as to what the cause is?.
  • Z3 2.8 & Bore Wear 25 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Hi all I am looking at buying a BMW Z3 & have about 15k to spend. I have been told the 1.9 is underpowered & to go for a 2.8 The problem is I can only really afford an R reg 2.8 & am worried about the bore wear problems I have read about.
  • BMW750 electrics 17 Mar 2002 (Forum)
My 1991 750 bmw has developed a fault. The central locking has stopped working and so has the sun roof and the windows, presumably because they are on the same circuit for closing up when the key is turned in the drivers door.
  • New Range Rover Diesel 24 Feb 2002 (Forum)
My mate has a new Range Rover 3.0 diesel auto on long term evaluation. We went out for the day and not once did it sound like a diesel, so well done BMW. It reminded me of the growl from the Vauxhall Senator's straight six. Given that it weighs about 2 tons, has four-wheel drive, a slush box and a diesel, it accelerated quite briskly. I don't suppose the fuel consumption is that good though.
  • My 1st month, 3300 miles, with an S-Max 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
ve discovered is that sitting higher up than I used to, I can generally start my overtaking earlier than I could in my old BMW. In reality thin means that my slower S-Max can take all the overtakes that my old BMW could. The flip-side of this smaller engine is fantastic economy once you completely disregard the fuel computer.
  • Land Rover Range Rover P38 (1994 - 2002) - 1999 2.5TD lumpy tickover 8 May 2021 (Forum)
My Local independent ,has not managed to isolate this problem. The BMW diesel looses its tickover when hot, i.e. on a fairly long run ,you might stop for traffic lights and the engine looses its smooth tickover when your foot comes off the accelerator ,it needs a blip on the throttle to recover the rhythm, itdoesnt always happen , any thoughts welcome.
  • Hybrids for Long Commute and High Mileage 18 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Hi All, Completely new to this.   I have  BMW X3 2.0d x drive and would like to replace it with PHEV or hybrid. My challenges are that I generally do a 110 mile commute (55 each way) with the occasional 200 miler and quite a lot of night time/weekend ferrying the kids around- totaling around 35,000 miles a year.
  • 118d - Weird brake fault? 29 Jun 2019 (Forum)
So I'm hoping someone really kind could advise me on this, I have a 59 plate 118d which I was driving and started to smell a burning rubber smell it was the pad so i got a new caliper from a reputable BMW breaker. After having the caliper fitted my brakes are now soft to the floor unless pumped? Was told mechanic had manually bled the system 3 times and was determined there's no air in there? Can anyone advise I would be very thankful.

  • Time for SUV, MPV, UTE designated parking 7 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Parked up in our car at local supermarket car park as far away from store as possible. Space chosen with no neighbours. On return there was a BMW X5 one side and a Discovery the other side. Couldn't see what was driving towards us from either side until we were half way out of space. Isn't it time SUV, MPV, UTE/Pick-ups had their own designated parking area on grounds of safety of car drivers?
  • Toyota Yaris - 2015 Toyota Yaris Upgrade Headlight Bulbs 24 Oct 2015 (Forum)

  • Auto Yaris to Volvo s80 to ?? something inbetween 17 May 2013 (Forum)
akthough volvo car too big and diff to park (no sensors) I do like the ride/luxury/power after the yaris but need bigger boot than yaris.  I like Merc and BMW but wary of rear wheel dirve and icey conditions times.  Like Juke but bit pricey at mo.  Any suggestions?  must be auto and I do about 1000 miles month.
  • Rover 75 Automatic 2002 - Notchy changes with auto gearbox, Rover 75 11 Feb 2013 (Forum)
On older models I know you could do an oil change and clean out the filter on the auto box, but this model (BMW power plant) uses solenoids to shift the gears rather than pumped oil.  I'm stuck for ideas. Any suggestions much appreciated.
  • Lost british Marques 23 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Presumably Rover inherited the rights to these trademarks..so where are they now?  included in the sale to the chinese? (i think they also got MG)  Retained by bMW?... they must belong to sombody.    Perhaps at some point in the future the Mini plant  might be churning out retro versions of Morris itals :-)  any thoughts?
  • Modern 'Q cars' 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
These days most 'performance' cars have very low profile tyres and other give away signs, and we got to thinking about what cars, in the last few years, look pretty ordinary, but go like stink! We came up the the BMW 530/530D, Jaguar R types and (of course) the Legacy Spec B Tourer. There must be more out there, but after a few pints we could not think of any...
  • Uglier and uglier 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hideous thing, it completely spoiled my day trip to San Sebastian; should have been banished from the sea front area (I hope the picture postcard photographers weren't in town). And what's with the BMW X6? Great big rump of a thing, ungainly and vulgar, sort of shaved off at the back. And the new Scenic is a total hippopotamus.
  • French Autoroute Breakdown 11 Feb 2009 (Forum)
On a recent return journey from a skiing holiday, colleague & partner broke down whilst on the autoroute. They had breakdown cover with AA, and BMW (manufacturer's cover) but neither covered them on the autoroute: They had to pay 150 Euros (cash, of course) to be towed off the autoroute to a point where their own breakdown insurers could assist.
  • Flash motors outside crap properties 4 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Went past a house fronting the A1. Outside on a driveway are a 3 year old BMW M3 convertible and a 4 year old 3 series coupe , I think also an M3 The house is peeling, windows are rotten and there are pieces of cardboard and newspaper on the windows instead of curtains ..
  • Unmarked police motorbike 30 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The reason I posted this is that I've never seen an unmarked police bike before. This one was a big blue BMW and if it wasn't for the flashing blue lights activated when pulling in the offfending drivers you'd never guess it was a ploce vehicle/rider.
