Why are car web sites so bad ? 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hard luck, the web site won't tell you. Nor does the model a guy at work has just bought appear. Do you want to "configure" an Audi ? The second page tells you it's forgotten your details, start again. I can understand the "Compare with other makes" part not working but don't they want to sell these things (use both sides of the paper if necessary) ? -
R75 coupe concept pays tribute to ND 19 Nov 2004 (Forum)
http://www.mg-rover.org/articles/showart.php?ArtID=524 I reckon this looks pretty good - only thing is it's a bit too "new Audi" with the front grill (looks like No Dosh's goatee*). Still a nice looking motor though, I'd definitely buy one over a Beemer or Merc. Would probably prefer a Jag to any of them though. If they chuck in some stonking engines for us dervheads as well as petrolheads, I'd say it would be a success. -
Common or Prestige? 4 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Lets take the Vectra-nice 2.2 petrol auto, leather, climate etc etc-loads of goodies but I'll buy it when it's 18 months old for £13k and in 3 years what will it be worth-£7k if I'm lucky. So what if I bought a BMW 5 series, Audi A4 or Merc E class. All will be 4 years old so out of warranty. Will I have big repair bills to bite me or will they be worth the extra outlay and treat me to luxury motoring at not to high cost? I'm confused! -
Car Giant - part-ex price?! 11 Oct 2004 (Forum)
However, I was staggered at the part-ex offer they made on my existing car, which I take to mean they simply don't want part-ex cars. My existing car is an 1998 Audi A6 estate 2.5 TDI SE with 166,000 miles in reasonable condition. Car Giant offered me £4,000 as its part-ex value. According to both What Car? and Parkers, the mileage adjusted trade-in value of this car is around £7,000, with a dealer retail of £8,800. -
Lacquer removal from plastic spoiler 26 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Car in question is a '92 Audi 80 2.0E, fitted (from new as far as we can tell) with a Hella rear spoiler. This is painted and lacquered in the same colour as the car itself (a dark metallic green). After 12 years and 120k miles, the lacquer is giving up the struggle and slowly detaching itself from the spoiler. -
New company car due 15 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I need a little bit of room in the back for the two sprogs (no car seats required any more :-)) and would like something at least as quick - if not better. BMW 320td - Coupe or Compact ? Audi A3 - 2.0 TDI (or FSI?) Honda Accord (Tempted by the Civic Type R but the emissions are a bit high) Alfas are not allowed. PS Does anybody know yet what the taxation levels for CO2 emissions will be after 2005/6 ? -
Cash v Co.Car Calcs 25 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My nightmare with the Audi is driving me back towards the comfort of the co car scheme. The calculators I have seen assume you either have a co.car and you're about to switch to cash or you don't have a car at all. Can anyone add to this list of costs attached to running my current vehicle? -
Best buy.....Garage's perspective 20 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I have alway fancied buying something a bit special for peanuts, perhaps an old 7 series, an old e class, Audi A8, Jag, that sort of thing. Because of their complexity I know they depreciate like the clappers. Some of the second hand prices look like absurdly good value.I also know the flip side, their very complexity makes it more likely that one expensive problem can end up scrapping the car. -
Q Car Advice 12 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I'm looking to spend about £20k so I realise that I'm looking at something a couple of years old, other requirements are mondeo size and with a good reputation for reliability. Present thinking is Audi A4 in previous S4 guise (like the idea of 4 wheel drive) but any suggestions would be most welcome. Over to the fountains of knowledge. Pauliepops -
Calling paintwork buffs!! 25 Aug 2003 (Forum)
AAAAAARRRRRRGGHHHH!!!! In my over enthusiastic efforts to eliminate or at least reduce a deep scratch on my Audi's paintwork, it looks as though I may have removed(?) the top lacquer coat thanks to rubbing to hard with scratch repair creams and TCut. The paint seems good, but its appearance now slightly dull compared to surrounding areas. -
the most INTERESTING sub-group 10 car? 8 Jan 2003 (Forum)
A few examples I thought of were as follows: Ford Puma 1.4/1.7 BMW 316i Sport Compact (1998/9) New MINI One/Cooper possibly New Ford Fiesta 1.4 A/C Zetec 3dr VW Lupo GTI 1.6/1.4 Sport Audi A3 1.6 Sport Renault Megane coupe or Clio? Basically I wouldnt mind something a bit exclusive and that does 0-60mph in around 10 seconds or less Any ideas? Coupes, Convertibles, etc.. considered (preferably small-medium) -
My perfect car 23 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I just discovered a car I had never heard of - Audi S2 Avant. Basically an 80 estate (1992-on) with the 5 cylinder turbo engine and Quattro drivetrain. Not the RS2 - that's something different (more power, naff interior trim). The S2 sounds like a car that would be worth trading in my 20V Coupe for, and there are a few around the £7K mark (although they all seem to be in Scotland). -
Vauxhall Omega reliable?? 3 Sep 2002 (Forum)
However, on looking around for a replacement, it struck me that Omegas are cheap relative to the "prestige" competition (Volvo V70, Audi A6 Avant, BWW 5 series Touring). I was very surprised to see in the latest the latest "Which" magazine reliability report that Omegas up to 2 years old came out near the top, ahead of all the "prestige" marques above. -
Wrong car, Right car 3 Mar 2002 (Forum)
That way madness lies. Nice to see Jason get slapped down by the the 'East Ender'when he started to slag off the Audi Estate because its well built, reliable and safe. -
More about new car smells 9 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The December issue of AutoTechnology (I really should get out more) has an article all about 'The Nose Team' at Audi. It's their job to smell various interior components, material and the passenger space in the car as a whole, in an effort to improve the car's smell. Bits of interior are heated in preserving jars (the kitchen kind) then smelt by the Nose Team who grade the smell from 1-6. -
Air bag light slow to extinguish 21 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Any thoughts on the following would be appreciated. My Audi A4 recently had it's a/con evaporator replaced - independent dealer had to remove dash as far as bulkhead to get to it - but did NOT remove steering wheel or airbag or sensor unit. (no passenger airbag) Ever since I got the car back (2 weeks ago) the air bag warning light takes around 2 mins to go out after starting the car. -
Forte Products 18 Oct 2001 (Forum)
They should rename the program Max D*ckheads. Anyone seen the new X80 roadster? , apparently they're looking at outdoing the Audi TT. That'll be interesting. Good luck to 'em. -
Insurance to drive an import home 7 Aug 2001 (Forum)
My next Audi is ready for collection in Germany, but unlike just six months ago, my insurers (Eagle Star) have said that they cannot cover me on the VIN number until the car reaches the UK. As soon as it's registered, it can obviously go straight back through the tunnel and be covered, same car, same driver etc. -
Idling speed problem 8 Jan 2001 (Forum)
I have an been having probelms with my Audi 80 1.8E manual 1990. It has covered 78,000 miles, and has been serviced every 12 months. When I start it from cold, it seems to rev at 1800 rpm. It does not come down even when fully warmed up. -
Monthly Running costs for Used Cars 29 Nov 2000 (Forum)
My wife's Renault Megane (1.6RT 5dr) has just reached 3 yrs old and has cost £310 per month for 6k miles/yr. I'm contemplating a used Audi / BMW / Merc but want to do my sums before even looking around forecourts or small ads - but where can I get the figures?
