New fiesta? decision time 17 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The cars on offer have all the extras that he doesnt want or need! Alloys to damage, A/C to confuse so wont use (hence mtce liability), radio that he wont understand, electric widows to fail....... The hassle of trade sales or other supermarket site etc is just to great for him, local main dealer is friendly service in a small town (they can afford to be!) -
gadgets as advertised! 14 Sep 2023 (Forum)
I don't know how networks protect their contents from non subscribers, but I am sure they try. There was a case quite some years ago. A chap in the Scottish Highlands, an ex military radio boffin built a receiver which could get just about any signal he chose. He also had the technological ability to de-code the signals and watch any Tv channel he chose. He did this because he said at the time terrestrial TV was not reliable enough in his location. -
Why am I paying for other people's pollution? 5 Apr 2021 (Forum)
The oak had been sent from France for reprocessing into veneered flooring in China, and was on its way back to a customer in Britain, Hinton said “I’ve spoken to my customer and told him the bad news that his floor was blocking the Suez Canal. He didn’t believe me, he thought I was pulling his leg,” he told BBC radio on Friday. [Guardian] As motorists we are being pressured into buying more eco friendly cars. Shipping and Aviation seem to escape the regulations on climate change. How can it be eco-friendly to ship goods 5000 miles from France to China for processing into flooring and then returned to the UK with another 5,000 miles. -
Honda Jazz III 2012 - Upgrading Infotainment 5 Dec 2020 (Forum)
No Integrated GPS (I have a Garmin Dash mounted), No Rear-Parking Cam or radar, Obsolete factory radio w/CD player and I really wish I had Apple Carplay on it. I am tempted to get a Garmin SD 65 and BC40 combo. This is not hugely expensive (about 400 Euros) and would give me some of the features I want with drilling holes everywhere. -
Changing the clocks 28 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Logic says that there must be an 8% reduction in Spring when the clocks go forward, but I have never heard them say so (I wonder why?). Computers, modern central heating timers, radio controlled clocks and watches adjust automatically, so it is a simpler change now than in 1971. Claiming it would ease communication with Europe is hardly valid, I have worked for two companies with headquarters in the USA and dealt on a daily basis with European companies, we had no problems communication across the time zones. -
Toyota Yaris 2015 1.3 - Problem with my car 1 Apr 2020 (Forum)
No lights to indicate what it is on the dash. I then turned the ignition key and the display screen almost looked like it had reset screen. Radio channels etc all wiped. It had some kind of timer on the screen so I waited until it had finished and thankfully it started with a bit of a struggle. I’ve been starting it each day but it’s happened again this morning and was really troublesome to sort. -
Dashcams, Bless them! - Car Accident 10 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Parked in supermarket car park front to back parking spaces no separation. I drove in facing forwards, stopped, handbrake on. decide to listen to end of song on radio so didn't switch off. Car reversed in in front of me and lightly touched my bumper. dash cam shows i was stopped for about 2 minutes, tiny gps impact but time and date stamped as immediately pressed save button. -
SEAT Toledo - Strange Electrical Problem 1.6 TDI 11 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I really hope someone can help as it appears to be getting worse since this morning, even the radio was cutting out which hasn't happened before. Thanks. -
VW Polo - Car reliability 30 Jun 2018 (Forum)
On two occasions the car applied emergency braking for no apparent reason, both times on a bend. It was frightening. On 3 or 4 occasions the radio has refused to turn off when the car was turned off and no key in the ignition. I had to keep the on off button pressed in until it rebooted. CarPlay is marvelous, but on a couple of occasions it has locked up, and I had to reboot my iPhone. -
KIA Rio - Lead to apply for finance on a car that was sold 28 Sep 2016 (Forum)
The salesman came over agreed a budget and i outlined the specs i required (handsfree, aircon, dab radio etc). Came up with a good deal on a 2015 Rio SR7 with only 8000 miles on PCP so i went ahead and applied for finance. My credit rating is only average so i got refused by the first lender but then we applied with another and i was accepted and left the dealership as the car was on another forecourt further away waiting for a phonecall today (monday). -
Peugot 206 - Lights turn themselves on at random (not Auto!) 7 Jan 2016 (Forum)
When the ignition key is turned after the car has been idle, the dash display shows "ECO-MOD" which is the annoying mode it goes into to save battery power if you try to use the radio for more than 20 minutes without running the engine! Now, in addition, the indicator flashers are not functioning, whick makes me think that possibly the fault IS in the switch after all. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus MK1 intermittent speedo but not VSS 8 May 2015 (Forum)
I have not noticed a lack of power as other people have but this could just be as I am gently driving around town. The same applies for the drop in radio level. I have only noticed the speedo stopping working when I am moving off from stationery (it doesn't seem to stop whilst it is showing a speed). I have only done short journeys since this has started happening (less than 10 mins/3 miles) and it has yet to start working again. -
Motor Insurance (VAN) Hit by stolen vehicle HELP! 13 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I rang 101 and reported it. A passing police van decided to stop. As she was taking my details it came in over her radio that a vehicle had been abandoned with rear end damage. The police officer took away some debri that the other vehicle had left. She said that CSI would be sent out that afternoon. They never showed and only decided to show up this morning after a nice rain fall. -
Dacia Sandero - Dacia Sandero looks interesting 7 Dec 2012 (Forum)
This car is interesting because for the same price of a Kia Rio 1 (£10,500 internet prices) you can get a top-spec version of a Dacia which means more equipment and "upmarket" options available for example you can choose to have an in-built sat nav, DVD Screen in rear seats (which i've only ever seen on "premium" cars before) Prices/specs not released in UK, but you can look at the French website as a general indication of prices/specs: http://www.dacia.fr/gamme-dacia/nouvelle-sandero/ Although the entry model is really that, it does not even come with a radio! Seems there are 2 petrol engines 75bhp 1.2 ltr 138g/km 47mpg or 90 bhp 0.9 turbocharge 120g/km 54mpg And 2 diesel 75bhp or 90bhp 1.5 99g/km 74mpg Just wondering if you guys have any comments? -
Ford Focus 2000 TDDI - Ford Focus starting problems 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Finally a couple of days ago, I drove the car to the shops, returned to it after 5 mins and although the ignition lights came on, as soon as I tried to start the engine "nothing" not even a click, but the ingnition lights dimmed showing something was drawing current. everything else works OK, windows, radio, blower etc.. So a trip on a breakdown truck to a local garage, where it is at present. The truck driver decided to "bump start" the car and it burst into life as if nothing was wrong!. All the garage mechanic has done at present is test the battery that's OK, the immobiliser light appears to be functioning as it always has. -
vauxhal vectra - Engine Dead, clicks or whirrs ,Common Fault 8 Feb 2011 (Forum)
AND NOW ITS HAPPENED AGAIN - 2 years later another 20,000 on the clock, parked up fine and next day its died, just a clicking noise from the engine that feels solid, and the Radio working on its own accord, coming on and off !!! I have discovered through experience that the Cam chain is only lasting 20,000 miles for an unknown reason as the car is well looked after. -
Brainstorming the future - technology in 2020. 19 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I`m thinking of how some changes seem to come out of nowhere (at least to the general public) For excample - when I saw the first `double housebrick` mobile phone with it`s WW2 style pull out anntennae - it seemed very similar to past radio telephones and no way would I have predicted the modern, palm of the hand smartphone - with all of it`s features. When you reflect on the hundreds and thousands of years of our species dominance on the planet - it seems grasping possibilites has been difficult - with hundreds of generations being born, living and dying , ice ages coming and going - and bones piling up in caves. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 Air Conditioning 4 Jul 2009 (Forum)
A week after the service, I switched the air con and and noticed that with the air con on the car was making quite a groaning sound, quite loud as I could here it above the radio. I confirmed it was the air conditioning as when I turned it off, the groaning stopped. I returned the car to the Ford dealer for them to diagnose the problem. They came back and said that the compressor and clutch assembly needs replacing at a total cost of £950. -
Vauxhall - Vivaro 02 1.9 does the cambelt power the waterpump 10 May 2009 (Forum)
It's the first van I've owned and it's not been that reliable. Lots of little faults, some of them stupid electrical things. Dodgy radio/CD player. New clutch required in 2008 at 60,000 miles...maybe this is normal but its mainly used on the open road rather than stop-start traffic. After the clutch was changed another garage said that the gearbox sounded noisy and was likely to fail at some point.....but this has not yet happened in the 12 months since and i think it's always sounded a little loud. -
Peugeot 309 (1986 - 1993) - 1989 1.9 possible fuel filter problem 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Took it back to the garage; they changed the copper rings near the filter but it made no difference & told me I need a new fuel pump. Recently my radio will cut out - often when I'm going round a bend. I just wanted to ask for some opinions on whether it does seem like I need a new fuel pump before I start hunting for old Peugeot spare parts (new one £60!)
