Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 1992 1.6 GTi - wont start 23 Jul 2011 (Forum)
There is a spark present, and there is fuel going in ok. I have replaced the following to eliminate problems: coil, plugs, leads, distributer and rotor arm, ignition module. Whe I first bought the car it started ok from cold but as soon as it got warm if you turned it off it would not start again. I have had the manifold off to clean it and have put it back and I have fitted a new exhaust system as the manifold was cracked and the down pipe split. -
Ford Fiesta 1.25 - 2004 Fiesta Revving issue 2 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Once driving after about 5 minutes the battery light goes out the idle speed (at lights...etc) drops to about 700 RPM (which I would expect). The fact that the light goes out after a short while and the revs drop lead to believe that its not the alternator but I am no mechanic so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Leom. -
Avensis 2002 2.0i vvti - Head Gasket Failure 15 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Is the car lilely to be OK to keep long-term (my intention) or should I be moving it on in a years or so time.... I had been lead to believe by the buyers guides on the web and my mechanic that these vehicles were bombproof (why so many minicabbers use them) -
Ford Fiesta - Cambelt advice 15 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I purchased a V reg Ford Fiesta Zetec LX 1.25 yesterday and got advised that when started she makes a whisling noise, she got drove back from Norwich to Ipswich and the noise never stopped. I got her a full service today. New oil and air filter, new plugs and leads and since then she doesn't whisle but now there's a light clunking noise. But i've now been told she needs a new cam belt coz it's frayed? There wasn't any service history with the car and she's done 115,020 miles. -
Ford Focus - Focus 1.6 Zetec MK1 2001 - Temperature Gauge Jump 25 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I stopped to check coolant levels and all seemed OK and engine didn't seem overly hot. I know there is a sensor between the spark plugs on this model and I had the leads off recently to check the spark plug condition. The issue only seems to have developed since then. Could I have damaged something/knocked something on the CHT sensor or associated wiring? Any help greatly appreciated!! -
BMW 3 Series E46 - Flickering HID xenons on BMW E46 28 Sep 2010 (Forum)
The one ive just bought states its for a d2s/d2r bulb but apart from that its identical and my existing leads do fit the new ballast. Ive checked the fuses but I can't find one for headlights. I have a 2004 325ci m sport coupe. Any help would be great. Ive been told by HIDS UK that I have an aftermarket kit and not the OEM......how do I know if thats the case? -
Ford Fiesta 2003 Duratec - Engine noises 9 May 2010 (Forum)
It is a 1.4 duratec with 140K; it has regular oil and filter changes (Castrol Magnatec 5W/30) Firstly when cold it is very ‘tappety’ a distinctive ticking noise which disappears once warm. I am lead to believe this is normal, but it has got louder lately. Secondly when warm and in higher gears, say 4 th at 40MPH, if I accelerate I would expect the engine to labour a bit at this gear/speed but it now makes a very deep growling sound which it never used to. -
Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 03 2.0HDi - cold starting problem 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Ihave a 53 reg 2.0hdi, sw ,se ,that's done 90k miles. when the temperature is below 5degrees it is VERY slow at cranking over.obviously when its been started once it starts again but it still seems to be slow at cranking I had a new battery fitted in august, size 075, I have been back to the shop and had it checked out as ok. when it is really cold I have sometimes to use jump leads from a spare battery but this does not seem to crank it over much quicker (this spare is on a trickle charger just in case) I have fitted new glow plugs also but my thoughts are looking towards the starter motor itself now. how much are they/ and is it an awkward job to fit? -
Ipod to "old style" Ford 6000CD 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Anyone know of a supplier that can do this? I can buy a simple FM adapter or knock together a basic line input lead for the unit, but I would really like to have the control and display elements as well if at all possible. Anyone know if a pukka kit is available? Cheers DP -
Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 06 1.6 (petrol) lumpy idling 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Various sources have told me it could be throttle position sensor, throttle potentiometer, throttle body, hydraulic tappets, blocked jets, dodgy HT lead or plug. So you can see I'm spoilt for choice :-) Have any of you guys got a "speaking from experience" idea as to what it is or some suggestion as to what to check (idiots guide please). ps. I already done the BSI reset procedure. -
Runflat tyre jumped the rim? 22 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The car had stopped in a straight line and no one else was at the scene, except of course for the driver who was on the phone standing by their car (no not standing on the phone..;) I wouldn't know what the lead up to this was, but it's made me a bit unwary of trusting a runflat to continue a journey safely. Anyone had similar...was it indeed one of our merry crew? -
Daewoo Matiz (1998 - 2004) - 00 796 Ignition failure while driving 8 Jul 2009 (Forum)
If a friend asked me to look at their computer because the screen wasn't working, I would not simply replace the monitor, signal lead and graphics card. I'd swap out each part. I know very little about cars, and would be grateful for any feedback. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 1.6 help with erratic temp gauge 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
if anyone can help i will be amazed, simply out of ides now, got a 2001 51 focus 1.6 automatic estate, temp gauge seems to so what it wants when it wants, one min it sits fine in the middle then shoots up in to the red although the engine does not overheat, i have checked the radiator for blockages, had the cooling system flushed through so there are no air locks, thermostat has been changed, so has the tempreture switch between the ht leads, the water pump has been taken off and changed, the car has been to an electrical place to check for fault codes and the ecu but they have found nothing wrong, have just used silver seal on the engine to seal the head gasket (if there was a problem with it) have even taken the dash out and changed the temp gauge needle thingy with the one off my wife's (who's works fine) and now im out of ideas if anyone knows of something ive missed or what it might be your help would be greatly appreciated -

Citroen BX (1983 - 1993) - 1987 Turbo Diesel - Flat battery 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Unfortunately this time lights were left on (wasn't me!). Tried to jump start it today with jump leads using our VW Caravelle Diesel Turbo, but after many attempts it just wasn't charging. My partner reckons the VW battery not giving enough charge, perhaps as it is diesel - diesel. Could this be right? -
Media used to influence holiday traffic flow? 25 Mar 2008 (Forum)
If they tell us its going to be a dreadful weekend full of massive holdups, jams and delays then do people take heed and stagger their journeys or even avoid traveling at all ? If this leads to quiet roads and quick journeys then thats great for us motorists who ignored the warnings and the government too as its less congestion, pollution and fewer accidents. But its bad news for the press who run a story which never occurs and therefore they lose credibility. -
Queue jumping 2 Dec 2007 (Forum)
On my way to work there is a stretch of 2 lane road where the left lane is usually solid with slow moving traffic (it leads to a traffic lit crossroads and then to a motorway). The right hand lane is normally fairly free as it becomes right turn only at another set of lights about a quarter of a mile before the crossroad.' -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - Some questions about a mid-90s one 18 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I'd rather not use a spray because this will involve lots of masking - unless it really is the only worthwhile product. 3. The leading edge of the bonnet is rusting - apparently a common problem on Corsas from this era. Access is, as opposed to wheel arches etc, easy and I wonder what Backroomers would suggest as a good product for arresting the rust prior to repainting? -
being pulled over 20 Oct 2006 (Forum)
After a short while I got pulled up, for doing just 80mph, which she pointed out was above the speed limit- I thought, thank god I'd slowed down from the 90 mph I had been doing- no ticket 2 On a road leading towards my house one Sunday I had to mount the kerb to avoid the temporary bollards in place with ACCESS ONLY sign. Got pulled up for mounting the pavement, which he pointed out that if there had been a pedestrian there I would have hit them!!
