  • How much is this car worth? 10 Sep 2006 (Forum)
There is a genuine reason for sale (so genuine infact that I picked up on the fact it might be for sale, and contacted the owner), although I don't know the owner personally or anything like that. The car has full service history, 12 months MOT and has recently had an Inspection 1 service. However.. The car has 3 negative factors which I am sure will adversely affect its value. a) The car has covered exactly 140,000 miles b) The car was involved in a minor rear end accident 2 months ago, although this was fully repaired by a BMW main dealer. c) The car is showing as having 6 previous owners, although the seller states that one of these is accounted for by the fact he changed the registered keeper to his girlfriend, so in reality, there are 5 previous owners.

  • Nissan Micra C+C - Insurance Claim - Nerves shot 20 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I guess I should probably prelude this post with the words that I appreciate I will come across as very nervous and potentially paranoid, but that really is my way I'm afraid! About a month ago I rolled my car back in Asda car park and got very close to the car behind. As I was pulling forward the owner beeped their horn and got out quickly quickly that I'd bumped their car. We had an examination of both vehicles and agreed that no damage had been done and the other owner got back into the car and said not to worry.
  • Audi woes 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Looking at HJ's car by car breakdown, I see that there is suspicions about the clutch on 130ps Passats. This should also be extended to 130ps A4s. Am suffering some problems on this 10 month old car (10k miles) and although they are fixing them it is annoying.
  • Jaguar XF - Used car, radio malfunction. What are my "rights"? 14 Dec 2016 (Forum)
I can't remember the exact part he said it needed, but it's some sort of main part which costs over £500 before labour. He reiterated his previous statement that "it's not something we'd normally cover".   So I asked him if he could get a better price from them to fix it than what I'd be able to get if I went to them directly myself. He said he would. I then said to him that in all honesty I wouldn't have bought the car if I'd known about this fault - I'd either have walked away, or asked for it to be rectified.
  • Jaguar XK - Jaguar 30 Day exchange policy 22 Jun 2010 (Forum)
The Jaguar web site starts by saying  "In the unlikely event that your vehicle has a demonstrable fault that cannot be resolved to your satisfaction and the car has covered no more than 1,000 miles from the date of purchase, your car will be replaced free of charge with a car of a similar specification or a refund will be offered. " This is no more than your statutory rights in my view and not an exchange plan - what follows however is...
  • Land Rover Range Rover Sport - Dealer damaged my car and won't communicate 15 Feb 2019 (Forum)
When the car was returned to me in December, there was damage to the dashboard surrounding the screens and some external damage to the car. It was agreed, after speaking to the case manager from the manufacturer and the dealership, that I would accept the car and it would be repaired by my local dealership, and all costs covered by the dealership that originally sold me the car.
  • used car with many issues 17 Jan 2010 (Forum)
hi i bought a used Ford Focus recently (couple of weeks ago), 2001 reg, 70k, and it has been back to the garage twice to fix issues. I have had the car in my possension for 3 days at the most. I first took the car back because I noticed the carpets smelled really bad after collecting the car. When I viewed it, the cleaning products they had used covered the smell.
  • Ford Focus - Worth bothering with annual service? 2 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I don't think skipping a service will make any difference to its value which will be very little now and usually when I've finished with my old cars I give them away. What would you do?
  • Xsara Picasso 2007 Petrol 1.6 - whining noise 12 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I'm going to ring them (the garage) later to confirm exactly what the problem is as I have a warranty which says the power steering is covered. I'm just very confused!
  • Citroen C4 - Stop oil pressure low, just had head gasket repair 20 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I had a blown head gasket as my oil was leaking into the coolant. Had this repaired at the garage and they also changed the cam belt. 2 days later, covering only 50 miles on short distances the car started cutting out when the engine got hot and was low revs (at traffic light for example). Took it back in and they said it was the crankshaft sensor which they replaced.
  • Volkswagen Golf 1.4tsi DSG - Economy Mode on Golf 9 Jun 2014 (Forum)
My query is has anyone carried out any tests? - or are aware of published data. Incidentally the car is as nice as every road test/review I have read. However the instruction manuals are a nightmare to wade through. Over 500 pages covering every model and every gizmo available. The hundreds of 'Warnings' are often amusing.
  • Mazda MX5 Roadster Coupe (2006 - ) - Valuing an MX5.. 16 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have been considering an MX5 for a few years now, waiting for prices to drop, and now have the opportunity to buy a 2 year old folding hardtop, which is for sale locally from a private seller, as an early wedding present for ourselves. I shall run it as my sole car, covering less than 10k miles pa, whilst the future SWMBO has a company Passat which we normally use at weekends. Being of short arms and deep pockets, spending this kind of money brings me out in a cold sweat.
  • Vauxhall Vectra 4dr Saloon - Central Locking Problem 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)

  • Citroen C3 1.4 Diesel - Citroen C3 - Engine Cutting out 16 Nov 2010 (Forum)
It only seems to happen at the approach to junctions almost when the clutch is pressed the idle can't cover for the electrics that are on (usually fan / radio etc). A mechanic informed us, that it was the other halfs driving, but its now happened to me, so know its more the car. I've heard of the idle control valve and other items... but we're lost.
  • Aping their betters 17 Jan 2010 (Forum)
It isn't really the thirty quid I mind, or the fact that the bus lane, in which of course none of the Cathedral City's thirty or so town buses is to be seen, must have been the obvious place to be (or I wouldn't have been there). What I mind is the singularly unflattering portrait of my car, stretched and flattened to resemble a huge grinning silver cowpat. This is fashion airbrushing in reverse. I will email Charlize Theron and Jordan to ask if they can recommend a decent Hollywood (or better still Philadelphia) vanity lawyer.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.8 What is the correct battery spec? 17 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Well thought I switched them all on, but front one seemed to have turned off, so turned it on after 5 mins. Then switched car off for 5 mins. Got kids in and then tried to start it. Turned over but would not go. Managed to jump start it later and checked battery voltage which was 14.4V whilst running, so believe alternator is OK.

  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 02 1.0 Oil and performance problems - HELP! 14 Apr 2008 (Forum)
There is no power when driving and it takes a long time to accelarate up to 55-60. I took the rocker cover off for a look and the entire inside was a mess, there was a serious build-up of black clay gunge everywhere including in between the camshafts and it sounds as though the top end of the engine is being starved of oil.
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 2.2dT head gasket 24 Aug 2007 (Forum)
After several attempts and 'hoping' it was 'air in the system' I have realised that it is a head gasket job, at least. No Haynes manual out for this model yet, but I do have the French 'Revue Techinque' which cover the series III Espace. After several hours translation it states that the enginee has to be removed, or I should say the car body has to be lifted off of the engine. Now I would like to think that some bright guy out there has found a way to remove the head without all this hassle.
