Honda Accord 2.0l VTEC SE 5 Door Hatchback - Front/Rear Brake Pipe/Line Replacement Cost 12 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I have just had my Car MOT'd and the garage called to say that it failed and needs the Front and Rear Brake pipe/lines replaced at a cost of £300. (they said that they need to replace over 4meters of pipe/lines). Is this a true reflection of the work carried out at £300 or am I getting ripped off? -
Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon Qtronic (automatic) - brake switch ECU delay 11 May 2012 (Forum)
When moving off, I have always kept my foot on the footbrake just as you would with the handbrake on a hill start in a manual car. As we all know, whoever programs the ECU restricts the throttle until the brakes are off. On my car, it must check several times before the throttle responds and then there is the turbo delay. This results in a delay of a few seconds. Do you know of any chip tuner who can remove this link? -
AUDI A4 2.0 TDI AUTO - ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE 18 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hello, Bought as new December 2009, on a couple of occassions from then until now, there has been a situation in that there is a distinct "overheating" smell from both rear wheels, & they are really hot to touch, [even though the journey has only been 5 miles] it is as though the electronic brake is still 'on'...even though it is 'off' according to the light on the button. Is it possible for this to happen??...the dealer insists there is no problems when we have taken it in for them to inspect....but, typically, the situation is not happening when we go!!!!... -

But anyway, with it came an aerosol of rust prevention stuff, and on the label it said can be used on brake discs without affecting anything when it came to driving it again. Anyone know what it was, or what I can use instead? -

Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 02 1.2 Why is my car making this noise? 13 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My car is making a squeeling type noise when I am driving. It is there constantly whilst driving but stops when I apply the brake or turn the steering wheel to the left. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I had a similar noise a few months back but it happened when I applied the brakes. In this instance I had the brake pads and discs replaced. -
Volkswagen Sharan (1995 - 2009) - 2001 1.9 turbo. Headlight and brake warning light 1 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, Could any body tell me whether you have to take the headlight out to change the sidelight lamp, can"t see any other option, strange design. Also the brake pad light came on a while ago, i checked the pads and they were fine. I disconnected the wire to the pads and cleaned it. But the warning light stayed on. Do i need to disconnect the battery to reset this. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 01 3.0 Hand-brake cable snapped 12 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I'm pretty sure I snapped the hand-brake cable this morning. I pulled it on and heard a snap and sure enough now the lever just flaps around with no resistance. How big a fix is this, what kind of financial hit am I looking at? I can't get it sorted till next week but I still have to do the school run, there's no danger of lose cables trailing out of the back of the car or anything is there? -

a cheap, simple way to make a car safer? 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Back in June, I replaced the brake pads on my Ford Ka with EBC uprated pads (as suggested in the CBCB) (see also http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=41866 ) Since then, it seems to me - though I have not done any testing under controlled conditions :-) so it may be my imagination - that braking has been significantly improved. -
Mazda 323 noises 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I've got a Mazda 323F 1998. I bought it 6 months ago and soon after began to make a 'knocking' noise whenever I was braking and turning at the same time. It seems to happen at each corner but mostly front offside and I can usually feel it through the brake pedal. It is getting progressively worse but it only ever happens when braking and turning. -
SEAT Leon TDI 10 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have just test driven a 2001 Leon TDI SE. I was unimpressed by the brakes. They felt far less effective than the brakes on my (unmodified)Golf GTI mark 2. Is this the norm or is it the sign of some defect? The service history indicated brake pad replacement some 8000 miles ago. -

advice 30 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I have just had to take my car in to have the rear brake discs & pads renewed due to the rear pads going down to the metal. This after my local Nissan dealership advising me a few weeks ago during a standard service that the brakes should be checked in 6 months time/ 6,000 miles and that the rear brakes were half worn! -
Volvo S60 - Brake pads, replace when? 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
My charming and lovely local Volvo garage, while not fixing the power steering fault my car went in for mentioned that my tyres and brakes were severely worn and would need replacing very soon. I checked the tyres and they have 6 -7 mm of wear left, hardley severly worn; in fact new last July and I haven't really used the car much! -
406 HDi Brake Fluid Warning 17 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Typical, just as I put the old Pug up for sale I get a new warning light appear!! When I apply the handbrake I get a beep and the computer tells me that the "Brake Fluid Level Low". It isn't low - it's right on the max mark. The handbrake holds the car fine, and in fact it just passed the MOT since this warning started appearing. I guess it could be a dodgy sender unit but why would it do this only when the handbrake is applied?
