A Grand Monday: Alfa Romeo 916 Spider 26 Dec 2016 (News)
In the past couple of years, it has seen a brace of pretty spectacular failures - but these were largely down to tyres, brakes and suspension parts, all of which have been renewed, incuding over £500 of work last May to sort out the front brakes, exhaust and rear bushes. We've spoken to the owner of this car and he seems a very straightforward and pleasant chap, and is a thoroughly committed enthusiast with a collection of Italian cars. -
The MoT Files: Why the test is so important 6 May 2014 (News)
Originally, the MoT test wasn't that complex, being more of a basic roadworthiness check, rather than something deeper and more detailed. Under review were the car's brakes, lights and steering - but as the years passed, the MoT was toughened up and, very quickly, the corresponding safety standard on UK roads was improved. In April 1967, the 10 year stipulation was brought down to a far more sensible three, while the items tested became more numerous over the years. -
Going green: Volvo’s future technology 29 Apr 2013 (News)
We got to try the single prototype – a tired S60 – and although the system is currently loud and unrefined it certainly works – press the brake and the flywheel whirs into life, press the throttle and it boosts the car up to speed. IAM warns of council cutbacks over winter 31 Oct 2011 (News)
If you get yourself into a skid the main thing to remember is to take your foot off the pedals and steer. Only use the brake if you cannot steer out of trouble. Plan your journey around busier roads as they are more likely to have been gritted. Avoid using short cuts on minor roads – they are less likely to be cleared or treated with salt, especially country lanes. -
BMW Announces its Winter Tyre Offer - From £700 12 Oct 2011 (News)
Summer tyres, fitted as standard equipment by all car manufacturers, operate best at temperatures above 7°C. This means summer tyres fitted by BMW provide excellent levels of grip, acceleration, braking, comfort and fuel economy in normal road conditions. However, once the outside air temperature gets nearer to freezing the rubber in summer tyres hardens, which detracts from their performance. In true wintry conditions of snow and ice tyre performance is even worse. -

A Grand Monday: Citroen BX TZD 29 Oct 2018 (News)
It’s a BX TZD, the best-specced diesel BX, and despite having 211,000 miles on the clock (barely run-in, you could argue) it’s in fine fettle, with an owner who clearly known his away around them. On the plus side, new spheres, new tyres, a recent battery, new brakes and a long MoT are all things that suggest there’s plenty of life in it, while on the downside a slight radiator leak and a sealed-up sunroof are openly declared in the advert. But the best bit? -
