  • SAAB 900 (1993 - 1998) - 97 2.0 Cam chain noise at only 50k! 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I hope I can get a bit more out this car, as the cost to fit a new chain is out of the question, the car WAS only worth a few hundred, now its worthless, why has this happend?
  • My First Valet - Help me decide 5 Nov 2009 (Forum)
What I am not looking for is someone to hose my car down with shampoo and a wash-mitt, this I can do myself and it only takes 40 mins or so. Never had a car valet before - and I want to get it done so in the summer I can feel proud of driving around in a nicely polished car.
  • BMW - Flakey quality 8 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Its why a BMW 645i is not only ugly, but a huge disappointment qualitywise and why if that is the standard of so called quality cars, id rather have a cheap one thanks! I actually like german cars and the image of them, I really do, but they can be shockingly fragile when subjected to normal day to day use. It seems to be this devotion to rubberised finishes thats is the problem as they appear to be covering up hard plastic beneath, which after a short while is what you end up with anyway.
  • Taiwan top for radar trapping? 17 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Other motoring things noticed: either side overtaking traffic light cameras many motorway cameras mostly around junctions tow trucks in big cities wide scooter lanes in most towns and often in the country signposting mostly English as well as Chinese but it helps to know road numbers the occasional Rover 600 and the odd Freelander Toyotas, Toyotas, Toyotas Don't try drag racing at the lights with a Kia Picanto EuroStar automatic! And parking tickets. I think I got a municipal one but as it is in Chinese apart from the car reg I had no idea what to do with it. It looks like a pay up soon or it doubles and triples street parking fee so the car hire company will find it and a lot of change to cover it when they pick up the car after I have left for Hong Kong.
  • Ford Fiesta - 2005 1.4Tdci, Diesel leak engine bay 4 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I have called the dealer, and I am dropping the car off tomorrow A.M. Fingers crossed. It has a 90 day warranty, which only covers parts for the engine and gearbox, although as i found this problem within 24 hours of purchase and the cars are listed as "road worthy" I think I am well within my rights to request this is resolved free of charge.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A - Idling Hesitation 12 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I can't say whether or not this is affecting the fuel economy as I am not sure what I should be getting, I filled the tank recently and have used just over a quarter of a tank covering 185 mile (combined motorway and town driving). Not sure if this is good or bad. I am considering removing the throttle body and cleaning it. According to an invoice with the car it has had the MAF changed 15k ago.
  • various - Company car choices 13 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I have to choose a car from the following list for 30k (20k business and rest private) miles per year. Boot space not majorly important although I will occasionaly carry 2 dogs. BIK is roughly the same cost and business fuel will be covered by fuel card What would you recommend?
  • Nissan Qashqai, Honda HRV, or... 2 Nov 2014 (Forum)
The seats are too low and slope down. Heat helps my hips, so a heated driver's seat would be great. Removable washable car seat covers would be a bonus. As would a boot without a lip and with a spare tyre. I only got the Civic last year, and my nearest Honda dealership is trying to induce me to get a new CR-V or an HRV.
  • Any - diesel exhaust regeneration 18 Sep 2014 (Forum)
We have be told to do this by the people who came from mercedes-benzene uk who gave us some trying about the system.  They say that it reaches temperatures of 750°c. I don't drive diesel cars as I have no need to plus I prefer petrol cars. Do modern dpf equipped cars have such a function where u can switch off the regeneration process if in a unsuitable environment and do they have warning lights to say that it is happening so you could avoid aborting a regeneration unintentionally and like the system our trucks have do it let u know if the regeneration is needed buy a traffic light system of green means it's regenerating yellow it's needed but has been switched off and red means the catalyst needs replacing?
  • SUV - Buying advice sought please 20 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I haven't quite decided yet which one I will go for but this time I will probably do it on a PCP or similar rather than getting a loan so I can change cars more frequently. I think my car will more than cover any deposit needed from the dealer but I really need to know if the credit checks for PCP or hire purchase are, in general terms, very strict.
  • Polo - Supermini advice 13 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Hello everyone, Thinking of ordering my first brand new car in January. I think I've narrowed it down to the Polo, either the 1.4 Match or the 1.2 TSI SEL or R-line.  I've heard bad things about the 1.4 petrol engine, but this car works out a full £2,000 cheaper than the TSI.
  • Citroen C3 SX - Citroen C3 Engine Management Light 20 Nov 2010 (Forum)
No faults found - no charge. Is the garage covering up that they cannot read the error codes (therefore allowing me to drive around with faults on the car), or are they being genuine, in that no faults are registering despite the engine management light being on?
  • Vauxhall Vectra B - Vectra ECU/Engine fault 23 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I have read all the bumff i can find and believe it is fitted with a Siemens simtec 56.5 ECU with the diagnostics plug under the cover by the handbrake. I have tried to read the codes and my car does the following which does not entirly concur with what it should do on the topbuzz pages. I need the engine switched off to be able to read codes with the engine running i get nothing.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 02 2.4 D5: "Engine Service Required" 5 May 2010 (Forum)
I've not started the car since, but I'd be interested to know how concerned I should be. The car is about 3,000 miles away from its next scheduled service and is otherwise running flawlessly. I've had it since new and it covers about 1,500 (mainly motorway) miles a month.
  • Windscreen damage - who to claim? 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
So - my tale of woe continues While awaiting my car to have the new engine (see my 2 recent posts) put in the hire car I have to use whilst I await it to be done sustained an 'almighty' windscreen chip. Now being a driver for nearly 20 years and NEVER having sustained any chip the 'gods' decide they need more sport!
  • Driving in Ireland 3 Sep 2007 (Forum)
However there was a lack of lay-bys along these routes and people seemed to stop on hard shoulders for non-emergency purposes. It seems that black is the fashionable colour for new cars in Ireland - so many black cars. Because of taxation a lot of 4x4's have blanked out rear side windows coloured as the vehicle's paintwork. I don't know if this loophole still applies. Also boy racers like to blank out the rear side windows of their cars too, in body colour.

If you have a largish car and find turning to look behind you getting increasingly difficult you will love them too.
  • Hiring a Jaguar XK8 for week-end? 14 May 2006 (Forum)

  • Golf Mk2 Carb Icing 8 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I have a VW Golf Mk2 Driver,115k,G reg, solid reliable car most of the year round, except the winter months when the carb icing happens, where it will start fine from cold, but after several miles will splutter and lose power, then, after I stop the car for a few minutes, its all ok again.I have had some helpfull advice from people on this forum, but after checking the hot air intake flap,(which opens when I suck on connecting pipe)I was told to check following- "but is it getting a vacuum supply from the temperature switch sited on the side of the carb cover ?
  • Mondeo Rear Bumper 18 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I have, in this instance, the option of whether to claim or not. I have an estimate from my local Ford Main Dealer for about £500 inclusive, but, the car's probably only worth about £2000 now and that's quite a large proportion of the cars actual value! I would like to get the car repaired, but more cheaply than the £500 FMD quote. Trouble is, I could go to an independent who might do it a bit cheaper, but the genuine Ford part costs £185.
