  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.6 Lumpy running then EML. 8 Oct 2009 (Forum)
With a door open the interior light was flickering, very bright at times, buzzing heard from fuse panel in glove box (no door open chime with lights on). I checked the battery voltage, 14.85V, engine running. The alternator was hot, after only a 5 mile journey. This morning I've checked battery OC voltage 12.5V and SG, cells 1-5 12.70, 6 12.50 (still the orignal battery).
  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 01 1.2 Starting Problem. Immobiliser? 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi, My Renault Clio has rather suddenly decided to stop working and it seems to be or I guess it to be an immobiliser problem. At first I thought it was because it was winter it just didn't want to know and needed a new battery as it turns over and then gives up after a couple of seconds. So I bought a new battery and it did seem to work, well for about 2 days and now I'm back where I was (guess I was just lucky). I've also tried a new battery in both of my plip keys to try and make sure the signal is working properly and it does open and lock my doors so I guess the fault isn't at the plip key end, rather the receiver?
  • Mazda MX5 (1989 - 1998) - 1989 1.6 How to remove the alarm/immobiliser? 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It is an aftermarket item rather than an original fitment judging by the wiring This device seems to have failed leading to us not being able to start the car at all, even if we just reconnect the battery the alarm goes off. What happened was that the alarm went off and would not respond to the fob, so I disconnected the battery to shut the thing up. Now if I reconnect the battery the alarm sounds So currently the vehicle is on our drive with the multiplug disconnected from the alarm/immobiliser module, a dead, unusable car.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.8 Electrics gone haywire 19 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Lights on dashboard very faded. Luckily fully covered by Green Flag and they came out. Hooked up battery booster and engine started straight away however when he asked me to check lights and put heater on full blast as soon as turned lights on the engine cut out. His diagnosis was probably new battery needed or worst still a new alternator.
  • Peugeot 306 - dead and now keys faulty 27 May 2007 (Forum)
After the terrible rain at the weekend I tried to turn it over on Monday - dead! My neighbour kindly offered to charge the battery which he did but explained it wasn't holding the charge very well. We tried it again but nothing. We've been and bought a new battery and tried again and this happens: Turn engine on, dash lights come on, immobiliser activates and radio comes on.
  • Possible starter motor problem:Volvo S40 28 Aug 2005 (Forum)
went to switch my car on once filling up 'air in my tyres and the car wasnt starting. all of the lights in the the dashboard were lighting up as usual and when turning the ignition, there was a ticking sound but no effort of the enging rolling over. now, i assumed that the battery was at fault and even tried push starting the car, but had no joy with this. i am right in thinking that if there was a bad battery, the car should start when push starting it. i was just about to jumpstart the car, and thought id try starting it before i jumped it, and the car started as normal, with no struggle at all.
  • Citreon AX 1.4 diesel - won't start 15 Oct 2004 (Forum)
When the engine does turn over the car starts first time you don't have to turn the engine over for any lenght of time before it fires. Its had a new starter motor (needed according to the AA), battery (the autoelectrian's advice)and alternator (garage's advice)and I've still got the same problem. The above people are saying its a faulty new starter motor, faulty new battery (I haven't bothered taking back to the garage).
  • K11 micra: flooded engine or flat batt'y 8 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Get a new sensor fitted or if flooding reoccurs, just crank like hell at the risk of flattening the battery? Thanks Mike
  • Polo Alarm Problems 27 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Stuck now with car alarm going off in res. area on a Saturday night. Disconnected battery, left it over night! Came back to it in the morning, reconnected battery, all works fine! Same thing though happend last night - press the fob, nothing (and this was the other fob now) One thing that was suggested was to hold the button for 20sec to allow the fob and car 'see' each other again.
  • VW Golf 1.9 130bhp - Rough Start 29 Jan 2024 (Forum)
On my 1.9 tdi 130bhp mk4 golf i recently purchased its got a problem starting  warm or cold the issue is there It doesnt cut out when driving, drives and runs perfect, no smoke The key has to be held on a few seconds extra to start than normal, sometimes this then puts the EML and flashing glow plug light on the dash 'emissions workshop' fault code says p0321 engine speed sensor intermittent Have changed the crankshaft sensor but no different tested a battery from another car that is working good, again no different 096 is the battery size, could this be upgraded to a bigger one? Or what else could I check?
  • Corsa Excite 2014 - Vauxhall Corsa abs problems in cold 23 Jan 2023 (Forum)
They did a few other things but said this was just what happened with modern electronics and maybe it needed a new battery. The battery is fully charged and the problem still exists, yesterday it was 2C and it wouldn't start. I'm furious, I paid £6000 for this car and I am effectively stranded miles from a bus route.
  • Honda Accord 7th gen - Where to find an elec power source (for accessory) 26 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Or....do I really need to run a wire all the way from this box of tricks to the physical battery in the engine compartment?
  • ICE mode on HEV 29 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Technically it should be designed so that ICE mode can perform entirely independent of HEV modes. Most HEVs malfunction if traction battery discharges completely.
  • Visually ensuring car will not roll 23 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Now, in a car with non-traditional/monostable shifter, where it always returns to base position after any operation AND with electronic parking brake, how do you get the confidence that after you have left the car it won't start rolling accidentally? What happens with electronic parking brake if battery goes flat? Does it release the brake or keep it locked?  How do you even put to neutral in those cars? Traditional PRND shifters usually have a shift unlock switch to enable shifter to move in [N] position if battery down.
  • Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - Hybrid resale value 20 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Currently have astra diesel estate which is not enjoying the short journeys. My issue is I can afford a 2015 vehicle but given that the battery is only warrantied for 8 years or 100,000 miles, will the car be worth much in say 3-5 years time if I want to change it. I understand a new battery pack costs £4500 at present. I'm  a little worried I would be buying something that will be worth very little at a later date.
  • Iveco Daily Van - Windscreen wiper fast setting not working 11 Jan 2021 (Forum)
In the fast setting I have battery voltage to the High Speed, Reset and Gearmotor Supply wires. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance!!
  • Jeep Cherokee (1993 - 2001) - 1997 Immobiliser Problem 7 Dec 2020 (Forum)
My immobiliser has immobilised my 1997 Jeep really well. However, I cannot now mobilise. I have re-programmed the fob, changed the batteries, disconnected the car battery, tried the main dealer, tried auto electrics company, all to no avail. I would be happy to have the system removed but am informed the system was fitted when it was imported and is an integral part of the wiring system and impossible to take off.
  • Volvo V40 - Volvo V40 (2004) starting problem 9 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Starter motor turns over but not firing. There is plenty of petrol in the tank. I've fitted a new battery and sparks. No sign of moisture ingress anywhere. Any ideas? Are ignition coils the likely culprit? Thanks for your thoughts.
  • 2006 Audi A6 saloon tdi - water leak 2 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Cleared what debris i could but have not yet removed pollen filter as its awkward to get at. Earlier A6's had problems with water under blocked drain plugs that were under the battery but that is not so with my audi as the battery is in the boot. I do not have a sun roof. Any suggestions where the water could be getting in would be much appreciated
  • MINI Countryman - Stop/Start not working? 26 Oct 2018 (Forum)
The Air con hasn't been used much, I know when air con is in use the s/s cuts out. I decided to have a new battery fitted yesterday, apparently, batteries have to go into sleep mode? Well, after a nights sleep, I took it out this morning and again nothing. Obviously, It idles when I stop at lights and in queues etc, but the stop/start just isn't happening.
