  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 18-11-2017 Part 1 21 Nov 2017 (Forum)
For GA in Birmingham considering either a Golf GTE or 330e, look at a BMW 225xe too. Large hatchback versatility, quicker than the Golf and almost as quick as the 330e. Also cheaper in company car BIK tax and lease costs than either.

I have recently downsized from my BMW 320i to an A3 Sportback 1.4 petrol with the 140bhp cylinder on demand engine, and would like to find H.J.`s guidance on the correct procedure to running in this vehicle, without over stressing the engine too early?
  • Items that should be included with a car purchase 7 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Hi, We have recently purchased a 1 year old bmw 1 series from a dealership . Having checked the boot etc we realise that the locking wheel nut key is missing. The dealership have basically said   'tough - it is a second hand car'.
  • Staying power 28 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I like to take notice of older cars to see which makes go on and on but still look tidy. I wonder which cars are best for long term ownership, I guess it will be the usual suspects like BMW or Volvo, you see loads of older ones of these but rarely see an old Mondeo or Citroen Bx, lots of VW's of old around but few Cavaliers.

  • Most extreme car change? 30 Sep 2007 (Forum)
My mate with the fire-breathing Scooby Imprezza (huge turbo, chipped, tuned stainless exhaust, 6 pot calipers, big drilled discs, 18" alloys etc etc) has just sold it and bought another car. An 03 plate BMW 525d - is that an extreme change or what? Can anybody beat that for a radical change of daily driver?
  • March Sales 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I see the new car market was up 3.1% in March, with superminis up 6.6%. The New new MINI sales are up by only 2.4%, which must be a bit of a disappointment for BMW now that the new model is fully on stream and production capacity has been increased. But the gold medal goes to Dodge whose sales are up a massive 28,200% (they sold 566 cars).

  • Oil change interval - cut in half? 26 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Even on my crusty BMW 320d the recommended oil change interval is 13000 miles-plus, and on newer models, much longer. Seems to me like a big 'ask' on the oil, although these diesels use a fully synthetic oil (not cheap).

  • Blowing Away The Cobwebs 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Just done a ~1000mile return trip on the BMW R1150R to Isle of Skye over four nights. First time in ten years. SWMBO said I was mad. Fantastic scenery despite the rain in the Highlands. What journey would other Backroomers do for similarly selfish reasons?
  • Auction values 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Have just read the latest article about prices at BCA being £500 lower, can't believe that some of these prices are correct. e.g. [A 6k mile 04 reg 2.0SE bid to £10,500] [A 52k mile 2002/52 reg facelift BMW 320i 2.2SE with a/c and sunroof sold for a very reasonable £9,600] Anyone any idea what the 'book' prices are for these two?
  • New 3 Series - diesel options. 19 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I am personally very happy, but would entertain a new 330d if I had a gun to my head. Just checked out the BMW site and there is no mention of six cylinder diesel, what's happening ?
  • Named - no shame. 16 Feb 2005 (Forum)

  • Everyone's out of step but me 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
A woman who appeared in court after driving for thirty miles the wrong way up the M4 at speeds of up to 80mph told the court that she thought everyone else was on the wrong carriageway and she had to keep swerving to avoid them. She was banned for five years. The report did not state whether she was driving a BMW.
